As a keyboard player and a kid of the 80's I just hope Behringer is true to the promised attention on the keybed and playing feel. The promises about the keyboard action and poly aftertouch combined with the Oberheim sound really is what makes me want this thing, if it is well priced. As interesting and good sounding synth as the DeepMind is, the keyboard version is really sub par and awfully plastic.

"The UB-Xa is one of our most complex products we have ever designed in our 35 years of history. 15 engineers worked over 4 years, delivering 8 hardware revisions and countless firmware upgrades, while co-innovating with 20 beta testers who all own the original OB-Xa synth. Our objective was to spend as much time and resources it takes and only release it when it is perfect. The UB-Xa is now completed and we’re ramping up for production. As Uli stated from the beginning, this synth was never meant as a commercially driven product, but rather a labor of love. In fact, it might never make us any money and that’s OK. For that reason, we plan to offer if at the lowest possible price and at a fraction of competitive products. We’re sorry this has taken so long but we now have a synth jewel we’re very proud of and a fantastic platform that will allow us to deliver new poly synths at a much shorter time. We’d like to thank all the beta testers who spent years and countless hours to help us bring the UB-Xa to life. And finally, we’d like to thank all of you for your support and patience. You’re the reason why we love what we do." - Behringer, via Facebook

@@Ni5ei I saw that. I am just trying to figure out if Behringer wants to take pride in paying engineers and designers to recreate legendary products for the sake of doing so or if there is a commercial retail strategy to bring their recreations to the general public. I mean I am way impressed at their drive, abilities, and talents, but what about consumerism? They could recreate a Jupiter 8 but then not sell it? Maybe the prototypes are too expensive and simply not cost effective to mass produce. I am still fascinated by their efforts nonetheless.

On the 8th of January 2018 Uli Behringer asked on GS if it made sense to build an OB-Xa clone. Behringer was gauging the demand. After some time they said, in the same thread, that they would make the UB-Xa but that it would be a side project on the engineer's free time. Late Jan 2019 they unveiled the first photos of the UB-Xa prototype. About mid 2022 they got their first tool made sample of the UB-Xa done. 12+ prototypes and 20 beta testers later In June 2023 they announced that the UB-Xa was fully developed and scheduled for production. On Thursday the 17th of August 2023 they simply posted "They will never produce it” with a picture of several units being tested. In other words, it's currently in the production stage.

Still no clear answer. The whole world is suffering from chips shortage due to US-China trade feuds and ban. Big company like Apple or Samsung don't have to worry But small brand like Behringer definitely feel the impact. My only hope is that Behringer will use this time to improve more this synth
@loreleiofthemist
@loreleiofthemist Жыл бұрын
@@guppymilk5726 behringer is NOT a small brand. there are probably other good reasons why behringer has had a much slower output in response to the chip shortage compared to other comparably sized companies who have continued producing gear, but it isnt because behringer is small and it drives me nuts when people imply that. behringer has a global presence with 3500 employees, and their peak revenue last year was 30 million dollars. korg by comparison has only 290 employees, and grossed 7.6 million dollars last year. between 2020 and now they have released at least 17 hardware products by my count, far more than behringer.
@ozzybattla93
@ozzybattla93 Жыл бұрын
@@loreleiofthemist respectfully you're doing the wrong google search. Behringer is Music Tribe, which has over $800M in revenue. Not $30M like you're getting mixed data on (wrong company called Behringer). The production slow-down is partly chip and supply chain issues, but partly cautious production planning as the world came out of the pandemic bubble and faces tighter financials. The company has its own chip fabs, but it still reliant on the overall supply chain for parts.

They tease so many products it's starting to become a meme and the attention is starting to become counterproductive. I absolutely love that fact that they have made really great copies of some pretty expensive synths which greatly benefit the everyday musicians who can't afford the originals myself included. The issue l have is the synth market is not that big and even if there wasn't a chip shortage the chances of all of these prototypes going to market would be very slim. I wish they would just pick two or three and really concentrate on bringing them to market in the near future.
@ericMT
@ericMT Жыл бұрын
Ok but they have to do something. Time marches on so they keep doing R&D and have the ability to create working prototypes so why not show us? They could just quietly be working on these things and just release them when they can but in my opinion this is more interesting. They have a proven track record of releasing a lot of high quality synthesizers both clones and original (Deepmind, Neutron) and they are doing what they can to keep us in the loop with new product concepts. Some may never get released but I’d expect most of them to be on sale in the next year or so. Gives you something to look forward to.

@@ericMT l would imagine 2% of the synths they have teased ever get released unless they’re sitting on a stockpile of chips. I’m with you l like to see what companies are up to and at first it was cool now it’s annoying and it’s clear in every comment section of one of these teasers.

@@kevinjackson7539 1 in 50? Have they even teased 50 different synths yet? and based on their track record with previous models I wouldn't count on them not delivering 90% of them. I guess they use some of this as a way to gauge the reception and likely sales demand.

@@robdownes5159 l get all of that but a person from the company got into one of the comment sections from their channel and when people complained they immediately talked about the chip shortage and that’s not changing anytime soon. @robdownes5159
@robdownes5159 Жыл бұрын
@@kevinjackson7539 I'm not sure what the issue is? There's a widely recognised shortage of chips, and at the volumes they'd require them to fulfil the volume of orders then it causes a genuine problem. They clearly have enough for prototyping work etc which is what you'd expect a development team to be doing rather than sitting and waiting. While I'm not a huge fan of some of the way they go about things, I don't really see the problem with sharing details of the products they're working to develop.

i don't mind 4 years when they put out a decent product after that. And i expect, in Behringer terms, to be this a decent product: When put to normal use, in a true flightcase on the road, it will survive and be ready for its next performance. But we'll see, when it becomes available and reviews by Nick Batt, Loopop, and Sweetwater are published.

Me to would like some detailed filter comparisons, on the other hand: There's sufficient oberheim hit recordings around and one with experienced ears will have heard enough after this video: The filters and most other things are pretty, pretty close! Also, for your information: Every sound, including the drums, is made by the UBX on this video.

Thank you an excellent demo, you can tell that a lot of work has gone into the sound engine since the last videos dropped, it’s very close, but still seems to lack the punch and bottom end of the original.

My feeling exactly. It does seem that they do not have the phase of each oscillator independent from the others (like what you get with DCOs, as in the Oberheim Matrix series).

The "bottom end" was demonstrated in an earlier video. No need to worry...it DOES have it. But I agree on that "punch" topic. While listening to the "Prince" part, I was wondering if - maybe - Prince sent his OB synthesizers through a compressor or something. Or maybe he recorded his music on analog tape machines and what we heard was the tape compression? 🤔

Hello Bernd. I'm going through you seeing that you master the beast. I ordered a Ub-xa, I've I noticed that in the instructions, to make a factory set, you have to factory default and select WIPE PATCHES. The problem is that there is no such function, only the reset of the A, B, C, D banks, atrophy and a full hard reset. I also noticed that in bank A, from 118 to 127, it says preset, and in 128 a sound called Demigorgon.And all B,C and D banks are already full of sounds created. Is this normal? If I do a Full Hard Reset, do I lose all the sounds including those from Bank A? Thank you in advance for your reply and I apologize for the inconvenience.
@Bernd_Bruening
@Bernd_Bruening 7 ай бұрын
You can do a full reset to factory settings. All factory presets can be restored. However, you’ll will loose your custom sounds, so I highly recommend to do a backup first. Some presets in bank A are empty, simply because the original OB-Xa was provided with only 104 factory presets.
