I like both, the UB-Xa for it’s insane modmatrix and 16 voice, the OB-Xa for its unpredictability. I think it’s evident that both synths sound extraordinarily.

the behringer lacks body, fat and magic.
@Bernd_Bruening2 күн бұрын
Probably because the UB-Xa‘s enclosure is less bulky, as you said, less fat. A synth is a musical instrument and not a magic box.

Would be good to hear more *variation between voices* on some pads and poly sounds with the UBXa. But for the price, this is amazing value.... and the velocity / aftertouch adds so much to the sound of the instrument. Plus, an extra 8 voices! Vintage synths are for collectors only now IMO.

I recently tried one out where two of the keys (and always the same two keys) were completely out but the rest were fine. Similar to a what I get sometimes with my old poly 61, but this "tuning" here is just for one note, not all notes across all octaves, am I missing something? On the poly 61 I have to retune one oscillator using a fine tune combination of 3 pots to ensure that every key sound good not just one key.🤔 Anyway I was unsure so I did not buy the second hand poly d in the end.
@Bernd_Bruening17 күн бұрын
The poly D has 4 oscillators which can be used either in mono or in poly mode. In mono mode slightly detuning of the oscillators gives you a very rich and fat sound. In poly mode 1 oscillators per key used, allowing you to play 4 voices simultaneously. It’s obvious that each oscillator has to be perfectly in tune, otherwise it wouldn’t sound that good. That’s probably what you encountered when trying the Poly D

Amazing sounds. Thanks for programming @Bernd_Bruening I just purchased a vecoven mks and it initially had these sounds on it . . is there any modern synth that can be as good as the JP4 ? what about the plug in?
@Bernd_BrueningАй бұрын
I can’t think of any hardware synth that comes close to the JP4, except for the Roland plugin/plugout recreations. The Cherry audio plugin is great as well and has the RE-201 tape delay/spring reverb emulation already built in.

Your first videos on the UB-Xa, when it was still in testing phase, are what put it on the radar for me. Once it came out I was a bit disappointed by some of the flaws it showed in the wild. Then Behringer released the so-called 2.0 firmware release, and it was this video that made me finally bite the bullet and get one. When it arrived it still had an older firmware version, and one of the 16 voices didn't behave as it should, so my initial impressions were met with some disappointment as well. Then I installed the new firmware, and loaded up your patch pack, which I had bought right after ordering the synth, and lo and behold - what a monster! Absolutely love it now. It might not have the exact same feel in the mids as the OB, but I'm expecting that to be easily solved in the mix with the use of some tasteful saturation. Thanks for your time and effort you put into this synth, I'm very happy I got one!

The UB is good sounding poly synth and is in the ballpark of the OB. Great value, but overall the OB is better especially the filter and envelopes. Really the UB is 85 to 90%. If you were playing live and switched half way through most including me wouldn’t notice the difference. Maybe on a solo track with good headphones. I would be completely happy with it. At times I even prefer the UB.
@davlippo72 ай бұрын
I have a question. I bought the desktop version of UB. I have it MIDI'd to a Yamaha M8x which has PAT. I noticed only a very few voices do anything using the PAT and I'm wondering is this the case on the keyboard version? I know the M8x is sending PAT signals because the Brass patch works as expected & PAT transmission is indeed "ON". I went into the PAT controller options under "MOD" on the desktop and got a similar result that only a very few of the many MOD options have any affect using the PAT. Next I'll try the PolyBrute 12 and see if anything changes. I noticed the UA has MPE which might be even better.
@Bernd_Bruening2 ай бұрын
You have to determine amount and destination of PAT in the mod matrix. I can only speak for my sounds (the first 58 sounds in bank C having SK as extender), but among these there are a few using PAT.
@davlippo72 ай бұрын
@@Bernd_Bruening I tested it on the PolyBrute12 and back to the M8x and I got the same result (The PB12 PAT is probably more responsive however the Montage is a 88 key piano action so it's not a synth style keybed) and if I wanted my patches to work using PAT I had to assign something useful to most of them myself. Yamaha did the same thing on the Montage, they really didn't have many presets actually using the PAT so I had to do it myself. Now the PolyBrute 12 uses PAT it extensively in comparison. Some say the Oherbeim is a players keyboard while the Arturia is more cinematic, w/pads and endless changes in timbre.
