Amazing review! Thanks for your job! I bought a couple of them on a flash sale on Amazon for only 8,22€ (9.48USD or 6.9£) each. It's a crazy price! For now i just use it for vocals, but i want to try using for insfruments too.

Great finish! Your singing just sold a warehouse full of XM8500's.

I do use a clip, but dear God I am thinking I'll get a shock mount for the XM. The shock rejection on a desk is pretty poor, so is the plosive rejection. Thanks for the review, I personally like that this mic complements my voice. Been looking at some cheaper old cardioid ribbons.. can't wait to lay my hands on one of those.

Always enjoy your reviews Anton. Your detailed vocal tests into the mics are unique and appreciated. The xm8500 is a hotter Mic so it has a higher output than the SM58.

I bought a Mogami gold xlr cable for this microphone, do you think I'm exaggerating?
@AntonBrowne Жыл бұрын
Well, it says it's a cable for life and in 30 years time you'll have forgotten the pain of £40! Maybe it's a good buy.

Any chance will you be reviewing studio condensers? Seldom do I find microphones reviews and comparison detailed like yours, their voices are not as rich as yours as well!

I would be happy to if manufacturers want to send them.

You should review Superlux tm58 next which they market as direct "competitor" to the sm58

LoL, thats f'ed up. Nice review. Briefly, my take-away is that vs. SM58, the XM8500 is a bit hotter, with a bigger bottom and greater tendency to handling noise. Overall sonics are very similar between the two, with few if any obvious differences and no glaring defects. The XM8500 is a genuine bargain that delivers performance well above its very economical price point. Hard to walk away from a bargain like this. (Fwiw, I do own one. Paid $19.95 + 7.5% tax from eBay in 2022. Postage included.)
