Thank you so much! I'm using my UMC-404HD with Jamulus software to rehearse live with our 4-piece band , and I've been trying for weeks to figure out how to monitor the USB coming from Jamulus rather than my local sound. (Monitoring the USB stream coming back from Jamulus rather than your local audio helps overcome some of the latency and allows you to better stay in sync with the rest of the group.) Your explanation of the Main vs Playback output, and the Monitor function as it relates to what's heard in the headphones, is perfect! And may I say that the Behringer manual for the 404 does not remotely provide a clear explanation of how the Main and Playback outputs function, nor how the Monitor knob affects what you're listening to with regards to the local vs USB audio in your earphones. It's actually not that complicated, but their manual just doesn't give you enough detail to understand it! Well done!
@AdrianClement4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this tutorial! It was confusing at first using Ableton Live but I was able to route the metronome and monitor,(audio in my right ear and click in my left ear) through output 1 for headphone jack A, and then stereo out to my camera interface or PA system (depending if im playing a live show in person or streaming) through 3/4 B playback. That way I can have tracks panned for sound quality to the camera and if I want to hear it as stereo in my headphones say after I've established my beat I can just press the B monitor for headphones button and the metronome is gone and I can hear stereo audio to monitor. Lovely!! Just what I wanted! And to eleborate for any Ableton users just make sure your audio settings in preferences is arranged correctly. In my case with the 404HD I need all ins and outs mono and stereo to be on. And so to add to this I can also plug my single PA speaker to output 2 main or playback and have sound simultaneously in conjunction to what I mentioned above. So basiaclly I can record stereo to video while projecting to a small crowd while i perform live and still have the ability to monitor with a click that no one can hear except me. PERFECTO!!!!

Unfortunately there is no way via the interface to control the PB outputs. I always used software to do that. I am pretty sure they just send out a line level output signal. So you would need to route them out to a mixer or use a DAW or iPad app like AUM that has a virtual mixer.

For some reason the digital audio signal is routed via the volume management on the iPad before it gets sent out via the USB back to the interface. I don't know if this applies to other interface brands or not but it is critical to achieving a good output signal.

I have 2 keyboards (both in stereo) and I'm running Mainstage. So, I should run the USB from the UMC404HD to my hub (along with the USBs from both keyboards, and the USB to my MacBook Pro). Assuming I tell Mainstage (or Logic) where I want the output to go, it should work, right? For example.... Keyboard 1 is assigned in my DAW to channels (1) left and (2) right. Keyboard 2 is assigned in my DAW to channels 3 (Left) and 4 (Right), respectively. On the back of the UMC404HD, I run (1/L) and (2/R) outputs to the left and right inputs for my mixer (for Keyboard 1). Then, I run (3/L) and (4/R) to the left and right inputs for my mixer (for Keyboard 2). Result, I get a stereo mix from my mixer, right?

first you need to use the ASIO driver from Behringer made for the UMC404HD (you can find it on their website or just search UMC404HD driver). Once you have installed that, you can activate the mono input 1-4 from your DAW (just google on how to activate multiple input for your DAW). I want to connect two headphones to this interface is it possible?

im trying to hook a subwoofer into this behringer piece, i've set the "main outs", 2 for my 2 way monitor, and 2 for the sub the problem is: I have to cut frequencies on my 2 way monitor, in order to get a good frequence balance between the sub and the monitors. since my old mackie doesnt have a hi pass cutoff, I have to do it on windows, and even tho my sub is on the second "main out" of the UMC404HD, it cannot control it independently, it cuts frequencies on the sub too...
@TheAudioDabbler3 жыл бұрын
So the Main outputs and the PB (Playback) outputs 1/2 mirror each other. If you want to use the sub, try sending the signal to channels 3 or 4 as well and hook the sub up to PB 3 or 4.

8:49 - You mention that you can route inputs to A & B (1-2 and 3-4). This is exactly what I need to do, send my XLR microphone input to B (3-4). I have this plugged into my PC and can't seem to find any application from Behringer to control or configure that. Do you have any suggestions? I just picked up Ableton Live 10 Lite hoping that would work but haven't figured it out yet.

hi there, I'm using logic on ipad and the 404hd gets recognized and inputs work but there is no output no matter what I do, any clues?
@TheAudioDabbler2 ай бұрын
Make sure your physical ipad volume is turned up. The 404hd is dependent on that unlike some interfaces.

Thanks for this. You'd think that Behringer would have explained some of this in their manual, but from what I can see all you get is nothing more than a quick start guide :-(

Hi, which channel should I use only with headphones connected? A 1-2 or B 3-4? I can hear with both, but does anything change?

Can i connect normal speakers on mains out using xlr to rca inputs to my normal subwoofer speakers
@joshmoisa93743 жыл бұрын
Okay, If I had 2 PCs and Bookshelf Speakers hooked up to this, I route the PCs on 1/2 channels, I will be able to use my headphones to hear from both PCs and channel A? And if I have the bookshelf speakers to the 3rd channel, I would just flip to the B channel to listen to bookshelf speakers? This theoretical works, right?

Good information thx...hey how would you record audio / MIDI from your iPad into your DAW
@TheAudioDabbler6 жыл бұрын
Depends. Recording into a DAW from your iPad, can be simple, if you have a Mac or something like an iConnectAudio4+ interface. It would really depend on what current gear you have. Let me know and I can advise. I have been meaning to do a video on this topic.

Thank you for this clarifitaion! One more question. If I would like to connect a headphone (through a cable adapter) to the playback outs, would it be able to drive a headphone?
@TheAudioDabbler3 жыл бұрын
That may work but I never tested it. I know that line level like the play back outputs have a different impedance than the headphone outs. Plus you have no control over the PB volume except through the software. If you are trying to hookup multiple headphones then a small 4 channel headphone amp might be a better option. It would also work if you are wanting to monitor out the playback.

Hi, i'm wondering if you can use this as a mixer without plugging to a laptop. If you just plug it to the wall will it still send the 4 inputs to the l/r outputs?

Haven’t tried it but i just read in another video someone commented that it works as a mixer without plugged to a computer.

@TheAudioDabbler i have two questions 1.if i put the knob all the way to playback i obtain a very disturbing background noise, something like a rustle... i can't find a way to remove it. 2, if i use the audio interface on windows i obtain a very low output volume, no way to enhance it
@donoofficial55124 жыл бұрын
Hi, great explanation! Thnx for that! It has come to my understanding that if I'll try to route the different playback outs as different mono outs pb 1+2 will be the same as the main outs? Meaning I can only have the main outs+2 extra mono outs or am I wrong?
@TheAudioDabbler4 жыл бұрын
Correct.
@ossiwilliams46193 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this explanation. One questions: I would like to use the "stereo/mono" button to control the audio coming from my PC, so i have a mono switch available to me at all time. Currently i have the following settings on my UMC 204HD (nearly identical to the 404): Audio cables running from playback 1-2 to inputs 1 & 2 The output selected in windows is OUT 1-2 Mix knob turned to Input Monitor A/B selected to A. Connected to pc via USB This seems to work, and doesnt seem to create any kind of loop. When selecting mono, the sound is fully mono. I have my monitors connected to the Main Out L & R, and headphones to the headphone jack. But there is a weird anomaly: The Inputs 1 & 2 start to clip already at about 10-15% input gain when turning Gain 1 & Gain 2 knobs. Even with the Pad button pressed (which "reduces input level for connected sources when engaged."), I am hearing the sound at pretty decent volumes when the knobs are at 0%. If i have the volume in windows turned to 100, the 204HD has clipping light flashing already at 0% input gain. Any idea why this could be?

hi! i have a question. i have the umc204HD wich is almost like yours. i am currently using pro tools, it recognizes the outs 1-2 and 3-4 but when i try to select 3-4 outs in a track it doesn't even appear as an option. i've been searching for info about why this happens but can't find anything. if someone knows it would be a lot of help. Great video by de way! Thanks a lot

Hello, sir! I'm using the Uphoria 404 for doing a podcast with up to three participants, but so far am only monitoring them myself via phones at the front. If i wanted to allow the others to monitor themselves with headphones so they gain better mic technique (ie not constantly pulling away from the mic randomly) and also so i can hear them thru the front phones and they can hear themselves and each other, what would be the ideal config? Thanks!
@TheAudioDabbler4 жыл бұрын
Are they virtual or physically in the room with you? If they are physically in the room then getting a headphone amp with multiple outputs would allow each of the guests, including you, to monitor.
@ozzyc9694 жыл бұрын
@@TheAudioDabbler they are in the same room. i do have a small headphone amp with multiple outputs but only used it in a live band sense with a stereo send to one person, will give it a go, thanks!

What equipment do u use with behringer to use it with an ipad?
@TheAudioDabbler4 жыл бұрын
I use a Camera Connection Kit (CCK3) to connect the interface to the iPad. If you have a newer iPad with USB-C, then I think any USB-C hub would work.

Hi, I hope you still monitoring this video, I've been trying to use umc404hd for KZbin LIVE, condenser mic on ch 1, and guitar on ch 2 (from guitar effect line out). I can hear both ch through headphone but only ch 1 recorded to youtube live (no wet guitar). I can get booth ch recorded using OBS, but not if LIVE directly through browser (mozilla firefox), please advice.. thanks in advance 🤘🤘🤘

For Garageband users! Be aware of that Garageband can't route sounds to different outputs, in case you want to use all of the four outputs on Behringer. Meaning that "monitor A and B" button will only work as a on and off button for the headphones. If you want to use a second pair of monitors for reference you can do so even with the limits in Garageband. Connect your reference speakers to "playback output A" (it sends the same signal as "main out") and turn down the "main out" volume. Then you only hear the reference speakers. You can't control the "playback output A" volume from the Behringer so you have to control it from your daw, amp or active speakers. This is for Garageband users and not for those who can route the sound to different outputs of Behringer.

@TheAudioDabbler I want to use either this 404 or the 204 at church. I would only use it for playing backing tracks from my laptop. If these PB outputs are simultaneous, I would like to use: PB 1 & 2 for stereo sounds (pads, effects... ) PB 3 for mono tracks & 4 for click track. Is this possible with this interface? I would appreciate your response a lot since I can't find this in the manual.
@TheAudioDabbler5 жыл бұрын
It should work. They can be stereo pairs or you can split them mono. Just to note, you will need to control the volume using software as there is not any volume knobs for the playback outputs.
@aaksamuel5 жыл бұрын
Which output should be connected to the PA Mixer? Main output or Playback?
@TheAudioDabbler5 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you want to accomplish. Remember that Playback outputs levels must be controlled with whatever software you are using, while the Main outputs will respond to the main out volume knob on the front.

Don't think so. They are decent preamps.

Good explanation - thx. One other thing I’d like to do, is have the usb from iPad appear at the *inputs* so I could use the inserts to route to effects like hardware reverb. I guess I could cable that, being careful to avoid feedback ...but wondering, on a long shot, if there’s a software routing way to accomplish the same.
