This time around, I'll play around with this channel's first 4-input, 4-output interface: the U-Phoria UMC404HD. I'll go over the features, installation, configuration, and record a short project through it.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this episode, where I'll try out a few of the more advanced features.

@@MaryJoyTorres-ck2vg Hi Mary. The Behringer UMC404HD is best bought from Amazon. Any problems and they make returning or replacing very easy. If you keep an eye on Amazon they sometimes do this unit in "used as new condition" for a reasonable price.

the inserts were the selling point for me. hadnt seen that on any other interface, and the 8ch behringer makes dont have that feature. i purchased a motu 8pre es recently, and am happy with it, but i still bring the uphoria with me when i travel with a couple mono pieces of outboard gear(for use with the inserts) and a single channel mic pre. not my favorite interface any more, but not nearly obsolete. great tutorial, fun to watch and a great tune!

Just bought one. It's my first interface the drummer who I play with has a Scarlett18i20 8 input 8 out thing so I've never needed one however he's moving out of town and I still want to jam with him so had to get my own now we can at least send each other files. I play bass with lots of pedal effects and synth tones and a stereo looper so I have multiple outputs. This video has been great not only is it a good overview of the interface I also use reaper and am pretty hopeless with computers sometimes 😅 so this is a great crash course for installing and setup thanks!

As always, great video, thank you very much for it. I am very surprised with the sound quality, I've tried behringer interfaces about 10 years ago and they were very low quality, felt like one of those recording toys for children. It's really great to see that they improve their quality while still remaining affordable for people on a budget. And one last thing - That guitar sound on the Gibson! Damn! Waiting for part 2!
@YHRS
@YHRS 6 жыл бұрын
I was also very negative towards Behringer for a long time. It wasn't until a few years ago that I tried one of their U-Phoria interfaces and it changed my mind. I think that they're offering some really good bang for buck for entry-level gear nowadays! I've been recording part 2 this week and I ended up editing out a part where I went over the signal chain for the Gibson in that mix. Maybe I'll find a way to put it back in :)
@YHRS
@YHRS 6 жыл бұрын
I didn't end up finding a good way to adding the guitar details in, so here's a quick rundown of the signal chain: - Gibson LP Classic - Boss OC-2 - JHS Muffuletta on the Civil War circuit - Marshall JCM800 - Two Notes Torpedo Reload - Preamp on the UMC404HD - Two Notes Wall Of Sound speaker/mic emulation

Oh, I forgot to ask . . . you mentioned the Phantom Power in the context of a condenser mic. What is Phantom Power and why is it necessary for that type of mic? thx.
@YHRS
@YHRS 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Yeah, condenser (also known as capacitor) microphones require power in order to operate. In the "old days" microphones used to come with their own power supply, and some still do. But it's much more common nowadays for condenser microphones to use the power supplied from the preamp itself, known as phantom power. It's a 48 volt power supply sent through one of the 3 pins of an XLR cable that allows the condenser mic to reproduce sound.

Great vid. Had this interface for several years (got it when it sold for $125). You helped confirm (expand) my knowledge of it. One thing that might help others is that if you are using phantom power (and say 250ohm headphones that require power as well), be sure to plug in the 9v. Otherwise, you will get audio glitches and the quality of the overall sound will suffer!

Hey, how u doin? The four playback outputs works as outputs of your DAW, so you can set some sequence chanels in each output. Most of the time is used for live performances, you can for example, set the master track in 2 chanels (L1&R2) the third chanel for the click track and the fourth for the vocal guide track just for monitoring. There are interfaces that have even 18 inputs and 20 playback otputs as the Behringer Usb Umc1820 , so you can set each chanel of your DAW in the outputs of the interface and plug each one in your mixer and you can change the volume of each one independently for live backround playback. My english is no good at all, I'm from Mexico. I hope this helps. Thanks for the video, Im subscribing!

In my Opinion "Behringer" is a Awesome Developer and Fair Seller, for a Big Money Pocket and the small Money Pocket too, most for the small! And when you get a Gear thats a bit Noisy...for 20 Bucks...ähm...its ok for 20Bucks! Otherwise you get "NOTHING" for 20 Bucks! Think about that! Since Behringer have a Deal with the Music Network, and Midas, they are High End, in some certain things, Hardware...i got the X32, the first Roll Out of them! And its a Awesome Mixer... and the new "Wing" ...crazy ...Awesome! Nice Video Dude, you do it all...nice! Good Review!!!

It's also worth mentioning that the mono button on the 404 is part of the monitoring area and has no affect while recording through usb. It's good with headphones and the outputs, but if you plug into only channel 1, pressing the mono button will not add your audio to any other channel for recording.

that's a great deal for $100! I think it's one of (if not the best) value for dollar on the market today. Glad your is working out great! I had the same problem with a Steinberg interface, turns out my USB ports weren't delivering a full 5V of power so the thing wouldn't even power on. I ran it through a powered USB hub and it worked, but it did illustrate that not all USB ports are created equal!

The camera angle makes it look kinda weird :). It was actually about 8" off of the neck/body joint, angled slightly towards the lower bout. Maybe it was 12" off, I can't quite remember. But that's about where I generally aim with this big, loud, dreadnought. The camera angle makes it look like I've got it pointed at a random spot behind the soundhole :D

Hey, thank you for such a great video! Quick question: you mic'd up your kit with two condensers and two dynamic mics. Did you have Phantom power on? And does that damage the dynamic mics (given that the interface sends Phantom power to all 4 inputs)?
@YHRS
@YHRS 5 жыл бұрын
HI there! No worries about enabling phantom power across all 4 inputs when a mixture of condenser/dynamic/ribbon mics are plugged in. Modern dynamic and ribbon mics are built in such a way that they effectively "ignore" phantom power, so there's no danger of harming the mics. The only exception is if you've got an older vintage ribbon mic that isn't wired the same as modern ones. Those can be destroyed by phantom power, but you're almost certain to be safe if you're using modern microphones.

@@YHRS Great Review! I have question - can I use phantom power and line in simultanously? Like connecting my piano to 1 and 2 inputs, and then condenser mic on 3rd input? Or there is some danger to do it?
@YHRS
@YHRS 4 жыл бұрын
@@michastarzynski6621 phantom power is only sent over the XLR connections, so it won't be a factor with TRS or TS connections on the combo inputs. So you'll be safe connecting a mix/match of dynamic, ribbon, condenser mics and line or instrument inputs.

hello, I bought this audio interface for my 11 year old twin guitarists! What is the use of DC 5v power if we can do everything with the USB socket? I thought you had to use the 5V DC power supply when you wanted to put it in 48v to use a microphone but in your beautiful video you switch to 48v mode without connecting the 5V DC power supply. Very good, but then what is this 5V power supply for? Sorry I use google translate.

Can you plug a jack cable in the middle of the XLR inputs? I have a pre-sonus where you can do that, and it looks like these have jack inputs within the XLR one's too

Thanks man 😁 I'm almost to the status of "jack of all trades, master of none". 😜 I recently described "my sound" as that of a band that's collectively recovering from a head injury.

I noticed that you have a Focusrite Scarlett, how does the Behringer compare to the Scarlett? Which of the two do you recommend more?

I just got this interface and I am having the same playback issue. I'm using a Mac and my DAW is Logic. The interface is on and connected to the computer, I've connected the interface in my computer's audio settings, and I've set it up in the Logic audio settings. I did everything you did in this video with the knobs but I still can't hear anything. When I press play, it looks like nothing in my project is actually playing at all; there's no signal. It won't play audio on my computer/youtube either. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hello, great video! Can you record all channels simuously into 4 different tracks in your daw?
@YHRS
@YHRS 5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! That's how I recorded the drums for the sample track in this video. You might need a little setup in your DAW to allow all 4 inputs, then you'll be all set!

Can you use this with in-ear monitors with backing tracks.. great videos

As long as your in-ear monitors can plug into a standard 1/4" TRS jack (or can be adapted), then sure!

i just got a used one. when i plug in the power supply to the wall, the signal lights stay on and I lose audio until i unplug it... did i get a blown one? Like the dc circuit.. its rated 5v 1000mA but i was sent a 6v 300mA power supply. Either way im pissed and just plugged my focusrite scarlete solo back in and its way louder via usb and put the other back in the box to return to the reverb seller. I really need 4 xlr multi inputs and im mad enough to blow a lot more money that i ever planned to on an interface
