Behringer Vintage Sounds Good But Might Erase your Sounds

I just tried it and there's no initialize patch! No way to easily start from scratch and build my own preset. I'm gonna have to pass on this one. Frustrated me trying to alt-click every knob and the sound is still not initialized, due to the parameters on the digital screen that also need to be changed for each section. 100 alt-clicks later, the synth still has some odd patch sound that is nothing like an initialize patch.

That was my first thought too when starting it. No init patch! But sadly, Behringer is not alone with making a synth without a starting point for making your own sounds. But at least... we can expect and update and a 'We Hear You Guys'-video :)

The installation process was cumbersome and frustrating. Once got it up and activated, I found it buggy and unreliable. Crashed Cakewalk a couple of times on a fairly powerful machine. It does come with quite a few presets and the sound is OK, but I won't be using it until they come up with a more robust version.

I have so many great and inspiring software-synthesizers (Arturia, Cherry Audio, TAL-Software, uh-e, just to name a few) in my active and productive workflow ... I really really don't care if there is something at Behringer.

Your point is extremely valid and although that many newcomers to making music with the computer will be drawn to the known brand of Behringer and 'free synth' - I feel the same. Releasing a freebie isn't like releasing a freebie ten years ago. Today the market is saturated with excellent stuff both cheap or free. I'm guessing Vintage is mainly PR to spread awareness of the brand.

Why do people advertise it? It is copied from Arturia, tone2, SPL and tubeohm and then offered as "free gift". They steal other designs to push their "niceness" and bussiness. pathetic....

They surely didn’t steal the code from anyone. Some people claim they “stole” the optics from tone 2.

Behringer have done stuff like that in the past with the Wing vs Arturia Keystep, so they might have been 'inspired' by Tone 2. That's perfectly plausible. But on the other hand, many companies gets 'inspired' by others all the time.

@@ThePlughugger yeah the Swing (not Wing, that is a live mixing console) was really directly stealing. But we never heard anything from Arturia and it is still sold. Maybe they had some arrangement in the background.

@@mudi2000a Oh lol! Swing Wing :) Yeah I mixed those two up. No, there were a response from Arturia and a quite awful response from Behringer that you can find on the internet. After that my respect for Behringer became less. I don't hate them, but I don't think some of their predatory business practices are sound.

No, it does not sound good. It's one of the shittiest sounding affairs around. In addition, editing is plain horrorshow and it's as bugridden as it gets.

@@ThePlughugger In Logic, when you don't select the Vintage track, notes aren't played in time anymore. Sometimes the UI seems to freeze in for a moment. No proper total recall in some hosts. Etc. This is just one piece of utterly useless shite, there's freebies 20 years old doing much better.

It will be interesting to see the long-term plans of Behringer when it comes to supporting software. How they will deal with bugfixes updates for new OSes etc.

I find it fascinating how much hate this gets only because it is from Behringer. If it would be just an anonymous free synth I am sure the reaction would be completely different. I am not a Behringer fan and besides some cheap mic I don’t own anything from them but the hate is ridiculous.

The Deepmind is not garbage.. it’s one of the most interesting newer analog polysynths that I know of that’s under a thousand bucks (around $500 for the 6), and with all of the onboard effects that it comes with, I feel like I’m more productive with it because I don’t have to mess with any other hardware effects or plugins to get whatever sound that im aiming for.

@@callum6224 I agree. DeepMind is really really good. The only thing I don't like about it is the sluggish interface.

@@ThePlughugger if you have an iPad, there’s an app that allows you to control everything from a much better, and more intuitive touch interface. But yeah I agree, although I don’t know what the solution would be for the mod matrix stuff or how you would handle all the parameters you can tweak for the envelopes, etc.
