Behringer achieves this by blatently copying any existing synths, basically killing decent, small manufacturers who still do their own R&D instead of stealing. Actuall, from Behringer, I have the Deepmind 12D, a great expander that can use integrated effects and a machine matrix, and I'm very pleased with that. My next will be mono expanders, kobol, wasp, first, and here I've seen few others I would love to be in store, because of their particular designs. The only thing that really bugs me about these clones is the omission of simple features that would greatly enhance the sound, eg: On their P5 clone if they implemented on / off / *inverted* switches for each of the waveforms, similar to the T-mixer or Pearlman oscillator, instead of just on / off switches, it would effectively allow the oscillators to produce 19 more waveforms than the original. The lack of optional multitimbrality with separate outs on their polyphonic clones is also a major oversight.

It’s physically impossible for many of these to be exact replicas of the original circuits (but have 3 times as many voices). What they mean is they are schematically identical circuits but packaged into integrated circuits,etc. But this means that they don’t share the same thermal drift, or voice to voice tolerance imperfections of the originals which is why they have to add things like the atrophy modes to the UB-Xa. It comes down to your definition of identical.
@DankePlace8 ай бұрын
This is why when you do make something electronically more compact, you lose the essence of the original. Also the UBXa is based on the OBX, which sounds less inviting than the otehr Oberhiems. Like you said, more voices doesn't make it better, the Teo 5 sounds much thicker and pleasant, but that has a lot to do with the SEM filter too. They're both priced very similar, but they just sound so much different. Personally I don't think you need so many voices when the issue is weak oscillators to begin with.
@ktreier8 ай бұрын
@@DankePlace Bingo. Pull apart any synth a Behringer clone is based on and compare it to the Behringer clone. Sure some sound close, but some are far apart from the original. When you buy a UB-Xa you’re getting a very nice 16 voice polysynth at a great price that you can undoubtedly make music on but you are not getting an Oberheim.

@@ktreier the keybed was one of the biggest off putting features for me, it has almost zero wight to it. The Teo 5 has a reputable FATAR keybed, same as my Pro 3 and Take 5. If Behringer are able to clone classic and in demand synths and sell them for an accessible price (giving music is everyone and not just the elite), then I’m all for it. The ever increasing price of synths is making purchasing more difficult. I’ve owned a Behringer Mono/Poly for 4 years. For a £440 price tag, it punches as hard as a £1500 synth. BX700 is my biggest craving and would be the first time I ever actually bought a Behringer synth! I enjoy the innovation more than replication, but I respect everyone else out there who is the inverse!
@hulkslayer6268 ай бұрын
Behringer is really pissing me off! They're supposed to making synths more affordable... which they are.... individually. But when they make thousand dollar synths for only a couple hundred dollars, and then announce 10+ synths, im now back into the thousands!! 🤣

If that VCS3 will really be available sometime, i would go for it. Just because of design and history.... Of course i would also use it in my setup 🙂

I'm also very interested in the LMDRUM, as well as the Jupiter-8 and Polysix clones. Of course, with their low prices on gear, I'll probably pick up more than that when they finally come out. (I just got the Pro-1 a couple of weeks ago and it it FABULOUS!)

I'm just here as a proud Moog One/Matriarch, Oberheim OB-6, Roland Montage/SP 404 MKII, Akai Force and Novation, etc owner... just to piss off the Temu-Behringer customers who try to act like they're proud of their purchases. And maybe they will be, for about 1-8 years only to find their crappy products give out and wont be offered any servicable options.... And then one idio will reply that they can fix their own synths, like that is a common thing for the general public. If youre buying Behringer products, you just may still live with your parents, or may be on your 2nd marriage with 4 kids, hence the reason why you're broke. Buying from a company that is basically the Temu of musical electronics is not anything to be proud of. And I will never buy anything from Behringer again after I found out they have no innovation, steal from other innovators and use Chinese sweat shops and child labor to make their products.

@@nickh13263 utter bs, any one can obtain these types of synths, it's a matter of how you buy your gear and how you budget for gear. No one knows how long it took him to acquire all this, and he isn't the 1st person to do so.

@@DankePlace I don’t have 10 grand to spend on a moog one. I do have a sub 37 my prized possession however I will never be able to afford a synth priced at the same as a car.
@DankePlace8 ай бұрын
@@nickh13263 Who cares about the Moog One, you cherry picked 1 synth but every other synth is easily affordable? I know of people who paid 6K for a Moog One only to sell it, it doesn't mean they're still not affordable, some people actually like making music more than they like driving, it's all about perspective.

Behringer is on a roll! I enjoyed their speakers and mixers from the past and never had any reliability issues.

I agree. I had some problems with their active speakers picking up radio signals (not being properly shielded), but that was a long, long time ago.

I'm a Nord & Moog guy, and I'm not afraid to spend money...however, Behringer nailed the EDGE (DFAM CLONE). I prefer everything about the Behringer Edge over the DFAM that I actually sold my DFAM and used the money to purchase a whole Behringer Modular setup. No regrets.

I play live. I would love to have on stage a huge beast like Elka Synthex (something you didn't mention here but there are voices about that too). But I should like a "contemporary " version with extended polyphony and high class effects. If I got it well a jupiter clone or a prophet clone could cost something more than 1000 bucks. With no effects... Why not considering a more innovative thing like Hydrasynth Ddluxe at 1600 bucks? Innovative design and polyphonic aftertouch...
