I love how you controlled his powerful voice without losing the power behind it. Well done!

I do the same with bussing different instruments and vocals to there own bus. It started to use more FX like you’ve shown. However another cool trick you can do is use the bus channel compressor on the other instrument busses/groups and set the compressor to key off the Vocal bud and then set the compressor appropriately so when the vocals are going on it will slightly bring down the other instrument busses volumes allowing the vocals to stay on top and not let anything else override them while there is singing. This is very handy for me because I’m also playing and doing sound too. Anything that helps me not have to reach for faders while playing is great. I’ve gotten into using MIDI pedal boards to make changes on the x32 and also Mixing Station. Great tips on vocals btw!

That is the greatest comment I’ve ever seen , I also lead worship and run sound so I don’t like touching my board as much either so I just use my iPad up there with me while I lead and play keys

How about another video on this but using the Wing. That would be awesome to see

Hopefully soon! We use the Wing at my church and I’ve got some fun stuff going on in the vocal chain I want to share 👍

Hi Jake, I am definitely going to use this multiple compressor on vocals, so Thank You!! Also, I am interested on your X32 templates/scenes, would it be much trouble to ask, Scenes for "instrument, vocals, etc..."?

Hey Jake! The overall mix sounds amazing! Do you mind showing us how build that mix? Including everything? These drums sound massive!

I used to have phasing issue when using the channel compression and then put one in the insert on the same channel…
@marian9445Ай бұрын
Very nice! Would the built-in channel compressor ever work better in front of the EQ?
@jakerussellaudioАй бұрын
You can! I usually compress after eqing so I’m not compressing stuff that I don’t want in the signal to begin with. The lower frequencies will trigger the compressor faster so you’ll get a more natural compression if you compress after eq. That’s just the way I like to do it though 👍

Great work. Do you place both your reverb sends and returns at unity?
@jakerussellaudioАй бұрын
Great question. A lot of times I’ll send my verbs at unity, place my busses at -5 or even -10, returns at unity, and then use a DCA to control the bus so I can have the DCA up high on the fader. Almost using the bus as a trim in some ways. Doesn’t really matter to me if you send less to the bus or turn the bus down a bit. I just being able to ride the verb at around unity without it being too loud. Hope that makes sense 👍

I was just watching your video and this maybe a suggestion perhaps, if that’s your main vocal you’d probably want to insert an 1176 first that way the LA2A is catching everything after the 1176, that will help keep your vocal upfront.
@radioflyer2030Ай бұрын
As in turn off the X32 channel strip compressor, and just use the bus compressors, with the emulated 1176 first?? I could be wrong, but I don't think you can put anything before the X32 channel strip compressor, and you certainly can't swap it for a different one. On the Wing, you can swap out the channel strip compressor for any of the emulations that come with Wing... including the "76 Limiter Amp" (1176) and "LA Leveler" (LA2A) in Behringer speak... which is a really cool feature on Wing that I'm sure everyone using mid & upper tier consoles already has.

@@radioflyer2030 on the x32 you can choose a pre or post insert position "per channel". Pre is right after the Gate, before the EQ and Compressor. Post is after EQ and Compressor. I insert the 1176 on the pre position for my vocals with very fast release to grab peaks before the channel compressor and then the vocal bus comp. Right now the bus comp is just channel but would love to put a 2A on that...out of FX slots on the x32 lol
@boarvetteАй бұрын
Although I do use an x32 for live sound and know you can’t insert more than 1 FX on a channel, but can send to buses to add more. In my recording studio (no x32, protools HD and all outboard pres and comps). Using the real outboard gear I would always have an LA2A first since it’s a slower compressor and then use an 1176 to catch anything else since it’s a much faster comp and catches everything. Now this isn’t for every vocal but if it’s a vocalist who is screaming or gets very loud quickly. Just my opinion, it’s never the same depending on the talent.

Hi, really great work. A quick question: where could we get these multitracks so we can practice mixing in the studio?
