Monitoring IS possible on this thing. What you need to do is connect cinch cables to the 2-Track section, routing the sound out and then right back in. So when the button 'to phones/ctr room' is pressed, the Behringer adds the 2-track input to the mix. Et voila, your real-time hardware monitoring! I hope I used the correct terms, I am (still) a beginner and struggled quite a bit to set this mixer up a few years back, but I saw the trick I just mentioned somewhere in a German video. Works perfectly for my need, I just record vocals in a small sound booth. Good luck guys and man, your videos are gold! They are helping me with so many things, much appreciated!

I've owned this mixer for about 4 years now. Here are a few words about it: in my case, you'll get about ~60dB of headroom when working with the USB interface. The mixer itself is surprisingly sturdy for the price point and I managed to only blow out the compressor on channel 2 after heavy home studio usage. Pros: - bang for the buck (4 individual strips with compressor and EQ + 4 pairs of stereo inputs sounds very good to me) - nice EQs - knobs aren't wiggly - FX send Cons: - 2 in / 2 out USB audio interface (for this price you can't really complain but I've had lots of issues with it, mostly with the noise I mentioned above, nevertheless it would be great to track at least 4 inputs simultaneously) - pres sound nasty. Really thin and noisy - compressor kinda sounds nice but only if you don't push it too much (imo) With all of this in mind, this unit has been my main mixer and audio interface since I've bought it and I'd say that as long as you don't use the interface, you've got yourself a nice budget mixer that punches above its weight. My tip would be to plug the main out to another interface and use it as a mixer only, you get the bonus of more inputs with all of its features while retaining the nicer features of a better interface (better pres, better convertors)

i wanted to use the cinch inputs and outputs to connect my pc and my stereo to it but it didn't work. I usually have a 1/8inch to 2 cinch (or w/e they are called) cable that goes from the PC to the stereo, but i want to make it go through the mixer first, because i want to be able to add my guitar/bass and vocal mic in the mix as well. Karaoke style or w/e. What do i have to do now? 1/8 stereo split into 2x1/4 monos + 2x1/4 outputs from mixer into 2x inputs cinch in the stereo? Will it work?

@@plamenmilanov3009 I have never used the RCA ins that much but from what I remember they go directly thru the master channel. If you want to record audio via the usb interface you would have to use the other inputs

It''s the same shitty converter chip Behringer uses in their other 16 bit interfaces like the UCA222 and the UM2/UMC22. There's an old driver that was made that works on all those products. I think that why they have compressors on this and not the non-USB version. To get more signal over the high noise floor (like they used to do with tape and early 16 bit). I'm guessing it was less costly than to put in 24-bit converters.

This is about par for most every level behringer products. When I coach podcasters starting out I push them towards equipment that will let them monitor loopback AND mic/main mix (i coach a lot of music podcasters and news roundup podcasters) so they can queue up their comments, interstitials and commentaries while the track/media is playing. I have some live radio experience so teaching podcasters to be able to do this kind of thing Live is so helpful. Saves time in post. Initial equipment cost is higher in some cases but so worth the freedom of spontaneity. Cheers for the honest review

A couple years later to the party, but here's my grain of salt. I own a Xenyx X1204USB, a similar model at around 50USD more than this one, I use it for record guitar and singing and for streaming. And for everyone interested in this, here's my setup for streaming: - Via USB i listen to all the system sounds and the videogame sound (this mixer let you hear the USB on the headphone output and record via USB at the same time, BUT you can't record the USB send in the USB return, if you send the USB to the main mix you will not be able to record via USB) - I have the headphones port of the computer conected to channel 5/6 (which, like this one, are stereo). Using the windows sound mix I route my communications to this channel (zoom, discord, whatever), and channel 5/6 is then routen in the mixer to the Alt 3-4 outputs. The headphones/cntr room is monitoring all three options (main mix, usb and alt 3-4). In this way only I can hear the communications, is not going to the stream, BUT if I want the stream to hear it I just route channel 5/6 to the main mix. (the USB ONLY record or hear the main mix, not the ALT3-5) - My phone is connected to the RCA inputs so I can play music if I want with no one else hearing (avoiding any chance of DMCA) and I can control the music without changing anything in the computer. - I have an AT-2035 connected to the mixer as the main mic. In that channel I have volume in the AUX1 and in the AUX2 (FX), AUX1 - Send is connected to my camara input so I can have audio in there too (my current HDMI capture card has quite some latency so its better to capture audio from the camera than try to sync it), and the AUX2 is just in case you want to add FX to your voice (I use the built in pitch changer). - In the AUX send I have both at 50% (12:00) - In the FX return I also have it on 50% and the button is pressed to send the FX to alt 3-5, so when I want the FX activated I only click one button. ( I won't hear my coms with FX since the AUX volume there is 0%) - In another channel I have my guitar (thru a pedal board) just in case I want to play guitar on stream. For my "studio" recording I connect the ALT3-4 outputs to my PC in the mic input or in a usb audio card, this give me an additional 2 channels to my DAW. The in the mixer I pan one channel to the right and other to the left, for the main mix, and the same but routed to ALT3-4, in this way I have 4 individual mono channels to record, maybe no that many, but at least is enough for me. I been working on making this setup for a couple month, trial and error on different configurations, and so far this is the best. I think (haven't tried) you can add two extra channels for recording using the two AUX channels to another USB Audio card. And honestly, I wrote all of this just because I'm so proud of my setup I wanted to share it somewhere hahaha But If you have any doubt let me know :)

So the weird quirk about those Xenyx Q---- USB mixers is that you can get 0-latency monitoring of your mic, you just need to do this mind boggling thing where you connect the 2-track out to the 2-track in... I don't know why they thought this was a good idea, but I had some A/V cables lying around and it works fine on a Q502USB. Just weird...

I have an alternative solution for the computer playback problem. On Linux with PulseAudio and Jack, it is possible to route your audio via multiple interfaces at the same time. So any audio playback can be sent to the built-in headphone out of the laptop and then sent to one of the inputs in the mixer. This is assuming the computer is mainly used for providing extra tracks on playback. You can still record from the USB mix into your DAW. If you have processed audio from the PC anyway (like using plugins for vocals or guitar) it would be more reasonable to monitor the wet signal from the PC instead of the dry input because it can be confusing if you hear unprocessed signal but the audience hears the processed signal. I'm sure there's an equivalent windows solution too. Oh and if you shortened your video by 4 seconds, it would be exactly 12:02 long 😀

I have the XENYX Q1202USB and I am so grateful for this video - you do a very complete job in explaining everything. I could not for the life of me figure out why there was no FX return (other Xenyx models seem to have this) but I am getting the fact that signal can be sent to any other input. You also confirmed what I saw with those 2 buttons [usb/2-Track] they are confusing and I still do not see the purpose. Connecting it to the computer had many latency issues so I just would scratch anymore attempts with mixing any live music. Other than the few minor weak points, I have found many other uses for this mixer and am able to route many audio signals and even drive my studio monitors, which is all that I could hope for. It's well made, does a great job and at a great price point!

Most podcasters aren't mixing anything. They just need phantom power if they want to use a condenser and a single mic preamp. You'd be better off with just a better audio interface if you are concerned about latency and monitoring. Basically, you don't need the mixer, and further more, you don't need a USB mixer from a budget brand that once was a better brand.

I disagree, I have no use for all the inputs BUT the issue is that they add features with higher price and more inputs. Basically there is NO Single input mixers or audio interfaces that have Gain + equalizer + compression By using this device i can avoid using lots of post editing, i can set the mixer that best suits my vocie or enhance my voice if i want it sound different/better, i can use compressor and in some cases i can uses FX And right now on sale it goes for 55EUR which is cheaper then smaller mixers and good audio interfaces which all above 100SUD/EUR People love the Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD Audio interface because it does 24bit/196hz, it only has gain setting and for Voce recording you dont need 24bit nor 196hz [im sure people recording song will enjoy it for ease of editing but whats the point for pure vocie?], this one costs 99USD in USA and 89USD in UK and 78USD in Germany and this mixer right now is 55GBP in UK

Then put down [TO PHONES/CTRL RM] button and you can listen what you play, play background track by USB output device of Q1202USB and record what you play on PC using USB input device of Q1202USB. I you use tape deck for analogue recording you don't have to link what I described before. Deck internally does the loop for you so you can record and playback via USB as well. Enjoy it!

it should. If it has enough inputs for your needs, and your outputs are simple, yeah. this should do it. But if your amplifiers are too far, then you would like to have balanced mix output so you don't get noise on the way out (either you get a board with integrated balanced outs, or you balance with an external box right out of the mixer)

I have a similar mixer - the QX1002USB. It has the same problem with not being able to monitor your own audio at the same time as the USB input. I found a way to get around it, though - I take the effects send (the 6.35mm TS mono jack) and feed that signal into the ports labelled 2-track in. These get mixed with the USB signal and that way you can use the effects bus to control the volume of whatever channels you would like to monitor at the same time as being able to listen to the audio from the computer.

I bought this mixer for smaller live gigs while keeping my larger mixer in my studio. You didn't mention its FX abilities. I also bought this unit for the reverb. I have another small mixer, (20 years old), but it doesn't have FX. What about the FX? Stay groovy!!

Firstly thanks for a useful and informative video. I use this mixer with iPad / iPhone and have no issues with latency on those devices. I’ve yet to try it with my PC with Cakewalk though. It’s great for combing matched pair condensers with dynamic mics to get a good stereo image of drums using the Glyn John method. I find that that low cut is useful for recording drums where the bass drum farts out with too much bass. I agree the control room buttons are confusing- but I can monitor what I’m playing while recording and hearing the other tracks but I have to remember which buttons are up or down. But in GarageBand in iOS I get zero latency. I guess on pc it might be the drivers needed to recognise I/O from the mixer that causes latency.

I can't get mine to show any audio in Grage Band or Audacity. I'm obviously missing something. It's not the USB cord as it is recognized by the drive. Does anyone know why this would be? I've watched a bunch of videos and none troubleshoot what to do when no levels are recognized.

Is there a way to use this mixer to record multiple tracks in my DAW? For example Inputs 1,2and 3 will record as 3 different tracks in my DAW, instead of it just being one track.

I've recently been having newfound issues with major monitoring latency that presonus hasn't been able to help solve. Would you be able to run a line into one XLR then run that signal back out and into a second XLR for monitoring? For example, say I were tracking vocals, so I'd use the first XLR for my recording and then use the second XLR for the compression and EQ to get a basic mix to monitor myself on. If so, I think that would be great for recording vocals

If I buy this on a single PC streaming setup. Is it better to Line Out to the mixer or use the USB for PC audio mixing? (im a music streamer)

if you route this into an audio interface with monitoring, would it make it viable for musical stuff? I'm just wondering since the alternatives are much more expensive and I have a Scarlett 2i2 with direct monitoring.

I used to use this mixer with my at2020 for literally 2 years. I went to unplug my pc and clean up the dust and now my mixer doesn't work. Idk if I did somthing, or my kids pushed a button, or if it went doo doo....

Do you think that the audio quality that you can get with this mixer/audio-interface is as good as the one that you can get with the Scarlett 2i2? (Similar? Near? Far?)

Guys, I need help BADLY!! I used to have an Apogee Duo Interface to power 4 monitors: 2 KRK Rockit 5's and 2 KRK VXT8s. I AM NEW to music making. My interface is NO LONGER compatible with a new I-mac 5K 2017 model. I use Logic Pro, I bought a BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UMC404HD to connect all 4 monitors to my Mac and use Logic to make music, etc. But this interface at times recognizes the USB port, sometimes it doesn't. The control panel SEES IT but no sound is heard. There is NO DRIVER for this interface so if you sneeze, the USB connection is lost and there is NO AUDIO. Unit is back in the box. Shall I consider a unit like this? Behringer XENYX Q1202USB Do I need a MIXER/INTERFACE to connect my 4 monitors and use Logic Pro to make music, use Itunes, etc? or shall I look strictly at an audio interface such as the Tascam US-4x4 USB Audio Interface. Which shall I get? MIXER/INTERFACE? or plain AUDIO INTERFACE? As a music aficionado, which is most beneficial for me?? Which will allow me to connect my 4 monitors? Thank you guys. As you can see I am new to this. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!! I need the model, ideally in the $200/$400 range

Is it possible to use this mixer sort of like a DJ mixer where you can pre-listen to one of the audio tracks in your headphones before mixing it into the main signal? I'm having a really hard time figuring this out on mine...

What microphone do you use? I want a mic for a 2-people podcast and the most that I can give is around 250 dollars! I was going to buy the "Blue Yeti Pro" but I saw in one of your videos that you do not think that it is a good microphone! Can you suggest an alternative with crystal clear sound? Thank you

Hi, so I have a question. Basically I am wanting to run a radio show from home, am I able to use this mixer without a slider for live broadcasting. Also I am going to be having guests on the show as well as switching between music that will be played directly from KZbin and also from my computer of artists that I know and vocals. Can you please explain to me how I can do this without having dead air. I am used to mixers with sliders which I used at a professional radio station but I want to set up mine from home and I am very budgety at the moment. Thank you :)

I just go this USB mixer with a Zingyou BM-800 to use for streaming on my computer and I can't figure out how to remove the rather significant amount of static/white noise constantly present in the background. When I use a cheap logitech usb headset I have none of these issues. Trying to raise the gain or Main mix levels cause the background white noise to get extremely loud. If you happen to have any suggestions on what may be causing that I'd appreciate a heads up.
