Many cultures all can come up with self-defense but the Shaolins of the Chinese really took the time in their life to develope mane and also make it with style. So precise, hardworking. I am very intrigued.

@@changlu8891 Martial arts, combat sports and self-defense are completely different things. You can't measure the "effectiveness" of Taichi for example, since as in Qigong its main focus is on spiritual/mental development. Also, the so-called "effective martial arts" are recent inventions. Boxing for example (which by the way is a Mesopotamian sport) was completely different from what is practiced today, watch a boxing video from the beginning of the 20th century and this will become obvious. All sports have evolved drastically in the last decades, but as I said, martial arts are not necessarily combat sports.

I don't know, I have no credentials, but I say these guys look authentic. Look at their eyes and their body language. That section with the brick rotation, reminded me of old kungfu movies. Goosebumps! Especially the rod and wheel training. Ever tried to hold a rod by the end alone. My whole body was engaged. Stellar video. Can only watch silence though, more intense that way!

Shuai Jiao history is actually much much more older than the Japanese Jujitsu and well since some of the Japanese Jujitsu are actually Chinese Fighting Methods namely Chugoku Kenpo and a little of Shuai Jiao , it became specialized in Japan and more different than the ancestor. Shuai Jiao as you can now see , have been revived through the efforts of various masters who are Overseas Chinese and Non-Chinese alike and especially this Grandmaster. I am happy and would like to learn more.

I always wondered why they never made kung Fu movies out of Shuai Jiao. It would help people become more aware of chinese grappling much like how Ip Man movies have made Wing Chun more well known through out the world

It was Bruce Lee who made Wing Chun well known trough the world, and the result? McDojo's!
@user-kz7wj5fl9r
@user-kz7wj5fl9r 3 жыл бұрын
@@padmad3k63 Bruce popularized “no style”, or MMA. Of course people took his teachings the wrong way and made MMA into a style, but Wing Tsun was more popularized through Donnie Yen’s movies. And it’s really hard to McDojo anything where you’re actually being thrown to the ground.
@padmad3k63
@padmad3k63 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-kz7wj5fl9r Wing Chun has ground fighting but not so many teachers teach or understand this. Look at Alan Orr, Randy Williams or Chung Kwok Chow. Those guys do teach Wing Chun ground fighting which is very similar to BJJ. Most Leung Ting lineages in Europe also teach ground fighting and grappling. I would disagree about Donny Yen, I think it was Bruce Lee who made it so famous in Hong Kong back in the 60ties/70ties. But it really is a fact, most Wing Chun gyms are a complete joke "we dont spar because it's deadly" lmao.
@user-kz7wj5fl9r
@user-kz7wj5fl9r 3 жыл бұрын
@@padmad3k63 Again, like I said, Bruce Lee popularized the theory of MMA. Of course he studied Wing Tsun, but he eventually believed in having no style, which is what he showed in his films. Donnie Yen’s film popularized the art. Yip Chun even publicly thanked Donnie for saving the art. And there is no ground fighting in Wing Tsun. They likely combined some BJJ or wrestling into their training, but Wing Tsun has bo ground game.
@padmad3k63
@padmad3k63 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-kz7wj5fl9r I totally disagree with you. The concept of MMA is very old, people have been mixing styles since the ancient ages. Wing Chun has ground fighting, you don't understand how Wing Chun works thats why you say it. Everything you do an applied on the ground, Chi Sao is very good for grappling. Chi Gerk is also very good to know and also very similar on how they use their feet on the ground in BJJ. The way to stop a double leg take down in BJJ is exactly the same as in Wing Chun.

Minh P The Indian monk never knew kung fu or other fighting techniques. He taught the monks training exercizes like Ypga for stretching and flexibility, meditation techniques and other cardio training. From there, the monks developed fighting styles that would later be known as shaolin style/ kung fu.

@dynastyflygon You are right about the Dojos. Nobody wants to learn traditional stuff anymore. It is all MMA. So I think masters are giving people that experience instead of basics. I think too many don't even consider sparring or too many consider only sparring. I was fortunate to find my Dojo in Phoenix. My Sensei was trained by Ed Parker, he is the real deal. I only wish I was still there. It has been years but I will never forget all I learned there. It is my standard for everything else now

Fabius, the rope is a part of traditional equipment. I have a book on Shuaijiao printed in 1983 which has pictures and text of this training method, which unfortunately I can't paste here. I believe the modern battling ropes originated from this training method.
