Yes 20 years ago I traveled a lot of countries stayed in a lot of hostels in developing and 3rd world countries Those were about the prices I was paying. Most countries you didn't go out at night didn't have the modern shopping or the scenery because of the poverty

And your editing skills are absolutely one of my favorites, Beijing is beautiful in summer but I never knew Beijing was beautiful during winter, I used to be there in 2008 and 2012. Really good vibe, enjoy your (work) trip. Remember to enjoy the food, personally I prefer food from southern china, spicy or fresh. Beijing duck and dumplings are pretty good, otherwise is pretty mediocre. Compare to food from sichuan and guangdong provinces, and Hong Kong.
