I'm definitely interested in your opinion when it comes to challenge playthroughs, scripted content (speculative videos, long essays and theories) and fakemon videos. I guess I wonder whether or not this type of content falls under what you're saying, in your opinion, since things like Pokémon challenges and fanmade Pokémon regions have become relatively big over the last few years... other than TCG stuff. (As well as general scripted content staying relevant) Perhaps you're only talking about Pokemon gameplay content. But yeah, you're not saying anything wrong.
@SacredAlmighty
@SacredAlmighty 3 жыл бұрын
So I think challenge playthroughs, scripted content, and fakemon videos are ideally the quick way to grow. Challenge videos are really just playthroughs dumbed down to like 20-30 minute video essays which makes sense cause people don't HAVE the time to watch a LONG series. Scripted videos/Video essays are just think pieces and we live in a time where differing opinion on something like Pokemon can have anybody interested whether they agree or not so just having a couple of those under the belt or even have a channel devoted to that feature different parts of pokemon as a franchise is really dope. Fakemon are a hit or miss tho cause some people have this bias towards them but they're REALLY fun to make videos of and even come up with ideas since we have so many Pokemon but not all based on animals that have existed prior. All in all Pokemon content is just what you make it out to be but if anything this is more for those that want to GROW in 2021 where everything unique has kinda been done to an extent & seeing people quit and not get anywhere but blame pokemon for their lack of success is mad disheartening imo.

PREACH. Pokémon fans are so fickle. They only like what's trending in Pokémon, and if you can't provide what's trending, they don't care about you as a content creator.

i'm doing research on starting a channel, hence why im commenting on a 3 year old comment...but that seems alarming because people say "do what you want, do what YOU love...but when you do exactly that, and it happens to not be anything trending as you said, they don't care. Hard making decisions from that

I'm glad you made this video. "You're a slave to the algorithm" is so true and it's hard trying to explain that to people who don't upload lol. People always asking "what's with the clickbait thumbnails" or "clickbait titles" but let's be honest what's getting the clicks? KZbin has CHANGED and you gotta adapt to said change to grow. Yeah some people do it for fun but some people gotta put food on the table too. I enjoy uploading pokemon content myself but sometimes I get burnout playing pokemom constantly so I retreat to my anime channel. These constant health problems I've had for the past year don't help either lol.

You also, Like we will never interact and i will only know you from your content but there can be bonds in that, Im sure you have some big time fans and supporters and you can be proud of that, most importantly I just hope you are doing well and wish you the best going forward :)

I have only recently started committing to making consistent Pokémon content so watching this video was very insightful. From my limited knowledge I can definitely notice the delicate balance between uploading what you want to upload and uploading videos to be used as growth mechanisms. Personally I try to do a bit of both, I’ll only upload Pokémon videos that I myself find interesting or funny to talk about and hope other people feel the same as me! Hope you can continue to find success and hit that 200k by the end of the year!

See it's weird. I've effectively dropped off the Pokemon community (been on and off since OG sprite videos using Windows movie maker were a thing) And I've been to this channel if not at least seen you before, just could never stick. But just hearing you speak, It strikes a chord with me. Hearing from creators who understand the struggle from experience, how the game has changed, how creators change, and moving forward. That's pure goodness, it shows so much growth. You got me hooked my guy.

I'm going to hit on the comment KingArtorious said and expand on it. Pokemon as a franchise has changed a lot over the past decade and a lot of people have not been too keen on those changes - fans and content creators alike. There are certain creators who are forcing themselves down this pinhole of a community because that's what their entire channel has been built around. Some refuse to adapt and it's sad watching them force themselves like a franchise that they've clearly grown out of. That being said, those same creators have also aged horribly. There's one person in particular who's just grown more and more bitter/toxic over the years. It's like they're stuck in adolescence and refuse to grow up. It's honestly really embarrassing.

For real, support who you can when you can. It’s hard out here and if you like someone, and enjoy their subject specific content, explore whatever else they have to offer. The more you can help them become a well rounded creator the more they get to have fun with and mess around with the formula of what you watched them for in the beginning. Watch the vids, check out the socials, donate/join when you can; no ones asking you to put yourself out of house and home, but think of it as paying for and investing into the future of your favorite content creator.

trust me its not just pokemon. When I started my channel i wanted to do a bunch of different things. However, I realized that the videos that did the best were the football-related videos so I started doing more of them. the problem is that anything else that I try to do gets no views at all, and then it causes my next video to do bad. What I ended up doing was I've recently started doing only football videos on my main channel, and made a second channel for everything else, because I really don't care if that channel does good or not.

My motivation for uploading goes up and down sometimes. For someone like me who does almost exclusively competitive Pokemon content, it was a lot of fun recording Showdown Lives and even going back further, Pokemon Wifi Battles. One of the most recent changes I made to my channel was posting past Gen Pokemon Showdown Lives from Gen 1-5, but even that feels like its dropping. Now it feels like competitive Pokemon is dead sometimes and the views aren't really there for me. I started KZbin around the time XY/ORAS came out and it felt good recording then. The algorithm definitely sucks though. Don't know how long I'll keep posting Pokemon content or just post in general on KZbin. It's cool that you posted your thoughts about this though, Nick. Been watching you for years but I don't often comment. Hope you can keep on growing my guy.

It's sad to see/hear that. Not only is pokemon in a sorry state right now, but being stuck to an algorithm has to got to suck. I never experienced it myself, but just hearing all this now makes me sad. The worst part about it too is that the viewers can tell. I certainly noticed when I was watching. What happened to pokemon man? Pokemon used to be enjoyable, like you would play it because you want to. I took a break from pokemon, and I'm now just recently coming back to it, but I still knew what I was coming back to. Personally, I left because of the pokemon community, but also part of it was because of that said algorithm you mentioned. Like I noticed that pokemon creators started uploading pokemon videos less and less frequently. I feel bad for what the pokemon creators have to go through, so I hope for the best for all you guys out there! Ngl I'm really loving these talks, they're so interesting! I always have topics like these in my thoughts, but it's hard to find people interested in these topics.

The format of this video is HEAT, now all you need to do is find some catchy title to label this style of video and the bag will be chasing you. In regards to the video itself, I think that during the "Voldemort era" Pokemon KZbin was establishing its niche. There was a certain group of creators who were at the forefront of the community's innovation while others imitated to recreate their success. But once it ended, it seemed people didn't know what to do and started rehashing the same types of videos and content to stay afloat. Pokemon content in general stagnated, viewership declined and people burned out. But not only that, you're mega right about the Pokemon viewership being basically glued to Pokemon and not allowing for their content creators to branch out and grow. I've caught myself doing it multiple times too, which I've been working on stopping.

This is the case for most KZbin niches. Not everyone like pokemon and something else. Some do. Some support the creator in whatever they make. But most don't care about certain things. Like I used to make pokemon content but now make south park. I'm trying to transition to that but make another channel for pokemon. But if people don't like both, they won't watch some videos. If I watch someone who plays South Park Phone Destroyer, I don't care to watch Fortnite content for example. As I'm not into it. And even with pokemon, if I'm only in it for the shiny hunting, I don't care for nuzlockes let's say for example. Outside of Pokemon, the best way to look at this is to think of subscribing to a cooking channel who also uploads gardening videos. Not everyone is into both and so only half your subs may watch half your videos. If you wanna get into something else, you can try it but mostly people sub for the one thing. If you wanna really do another niche, you may just wanna make another channel instead of dividing your audience.

I really feel for youtubers because the amount of factors you have to consider is ridiculous for something that may or may not be successful/sustainable. It's the trends, fall guys/among us and in pokemon the tcg. I think the tcg trend will die down because there's only so many times you can see a person pull x card. It would be dope to turn the card pull videos into actual tcg games with different formats and such but I also play the tcg so I'm biased. I can only speak about myself but I can't only watch pokemon. Maybe one way to not fall into the algorithm trap is to keep changing it up like how chuggaconroy finishes one game then goes onto a different one of a different series.

I don't really like aDrive just for the fact he just becomes the typical "CONSUMER" and only does it because it's the only thing he can do, he does not question the flaws of SwSh and encourages people to be one. Not only that but he also compared his MARRIAGE of all things to how bad SWSH is, that's both a red flag and a yikes to me. You can still see it to this day of him reading the critics for SwSh. If shiny hunting is the "META" then good for him. I just feel bad for the people who do not think for themselves when they watch him and don't know any flawed details about him especially with the recent incident of him buying all the TCGs on Happy Meals. I like Hoodlumcallum for his romhack content but he does post bad takes on twitter with the recent one saying the new Snap doesn't look any better than SwSh which is clearly not true if you have functioning eyes. It just makes me reconsider if I should stop watching him but I still do with the recent Xenoverse content.

Oh ya, it most definitely is a trap, and its not just a Pokétuber related problem. Any content creator that got popular from one thing, and try to move onto another thing, they will see a significant decrease of views and/or ratings because your initial audience watched you for that one thing and will tie you to that until their interests change. KZbin is very fickle like that.

It's always the facts that don't make it into the algorithm and even if it does it won't matter since KZbin is a crap place hell they didn't even tell us cursing in the comment she could get you demonetized.

I like how he literally touched on all the other poketubers I watch 😂 “not everyone can be the next adrive and blow up over a shiny hunting video” and no disrespect he was my favorite until he kept making shiny reactions, I’m not into the constant shiny hunting vids I’d have to watch him when streams them on twitch otherwise it’s just eh, and even now I barely watch him because of that it’s weird to say it but he definitely went mainstream for pokemon I enjoyed when he played Roms and doing competitive batting but maybe he’s tired of that sooo 🤷🏽‍♂️. but he’s still my fav when it comes to certain videos he does

I feel like the Pokemon community has been oversaturated. It has been a lot of the same stuff. Like shiny hunting, a nuzlocke play through.Its a shame that once everything is done, whats next?

At this point being a Pokémon youtuber is like being a kpop reaction channel. Less views though because knop caught fire in recent years. But if you don't show people "what they came for" they won't watch. Which is sad because it just means you do not truly support. Just like Nick said.

If you ever want to try some other games like destiny 2 on the Xbox X|S etc then feel free to reply to this. We’re mostly 19 so may be a tad young, but there’s always fun to try if needed :)
