By the end of it not only did the people being introduced to the lore become fans of the series without even playing the game, they had solid and informed criticisms of the series for its many mistakes that they came to on there own. It felt like Drawk was kinda force fed every negative opinion that floats around the Fandom to me

No, Mickey did not leave Aqua in the Realm of Darkness for 10 years. He didn't know where she was for 9 years, only finding her after searching for a Keyblade of Darkness to close the door, seemingly locking himself there with her, and by the time he DID get out, Organization 13 was becoming a bigger threat, and he had to undercover to stop them. Even after that, Mickey had been strongly advised by Yen Sid not to go back to get her, because of how dangerous it was the first time he went, only going back when he could have another Keyblade Master go with him. Aqua, under normal circumstances, doesn't blame him either. Its only when she was horribly corrupted and clouded by Darkness that she blames him for it all, deslite the fact it was HER CHOICE TO GO IN AND STAY.

As someone who loves kingdom hearts, this was such a ride to listen to lol I do think the story is less confusing than most people think, but made more confusing by the order of the games and by the fact that so much important info is outside of the "main" games. Also yes, the story is wild/crazy XD it being "not that confusing" doesn't make it any less wild! (I do still love it tho)

at this point the only trait for the side games not being main ones is simply the gameplay difference which with how 3 incorporated elements from the side game like flow motion i think it gave a bit of a wakeup call for both story and gameplay the side games are more influential then some thought they would be

Tbh I don't think it's even the order of the games, it's just that you used to need a bunch of different consoles to play them all. The story is actually pretty straightforward if you play the games in release order, it's only DDD that gets outright convoluted

So far, Drawk knows too much KH lore to give this a fair shake. As someone who knows almost nothing about KH, the constant interruptions have made this twice as hard to follow. Seems like Drawk is trying to connect the dots as they're being laid out, rather than letting Biggie get to it I'm only 30 minutes in though, so maybe it starts to come together

Only 12 minutes into the video so I can't comment too much since I don't know the conclusions, but I do think there's 2 very big flaws to the premise of the video; Telling the defense they cannot use visual aides to help explain a story that is told in an inherently visual (and interactive) medium seems a little bit too much of a knee-capping And; Going into it with the already predecided statement of "I hate this" instead of "I would like to hear why others like this" by default makes you less likely to be willing to change opinions

Even after this entire thing, I think I would also love to have Drawk just watch "A Good Enough Summary of Kingdom Hearts" (Trilogy) by Barry Kramer. Honestly, it's just as chaotic and...what's the phra...paraphrased as this explanation, but there's a lot of gags and visual humor in the art of the whole thing.

I think that by far THE single biggest "problem" with Kingdom Hearts lore is that from the start, it wasn't really made clear to people how things were going to go down. 99% of people are OBVIOUSLY going to think that you go from KH1 to KH2 with CoM being some sort of spin-off that doesn't matter, but no, they really went "no spin-offs, everything is canon" and didn't beat that into people's heads enough. Then when KH2 comes out and it's like "Hi I'm Roxas," people go "WHAT IS GOING ON?" If they had just numbered every game, it would have been way more bloated feeling like "Oh, KH9 is releasing soon," but having it be so confusing as to the canonicity of each game from so early on is what I think REALLY hurt the storytelling for most people. The overall lore isn't THAT confusing, just sort of fragmented and all over the place. I think it really does just come down to what order you experience the games in the first time you experience the series.

@@ARDIZsq I think the bigger problem was that the games were on a bunch of disparate consoles. A lot of people with PS2s wouldn't have had GBAs, a lot of people woth PSPs wouldn't have had a DS or 3DS and such. Now that they have the all in one packages its a lot easier

Honestly this recap isn't that great. Granted it's over a dozen 30-60 hour games (plus mobile entries and a movie) over the course of 20 years so it's understandable there would be a lot to take in at once and even harder to relay to another but it still came off more confusing than in needs to be.

One: nutshell version... Coded is just there to explain how Mickey and Yen Sid Realize and Remember that Terra Aqua and Ventus exist and need rescuing. Everything else is teaching Data Sora stuff that won't matter because Data Sora is a seperate entity that has nothing to do with regular Sora aside from being a digital virtual copy of Sora. It is literally addressed in Kingdom Hearts 3 that Sora doesn't know about the events of Codes but Donald and Goofy do, because THEY were there and *he* wasn't. That said... All the programming analogies used to help Drawk understand things...and *Coded*, the one that is very literally trouble shooting a journal in the form of a computer digital world...is the one that gets skipped...

Honestly, I don't think Kingdom Hearts is going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I do think some people take all this stuff too seriously. Like, if you can't find some level of joy in the ridiculousness of things like "I'm already half-Xehanort", "It's Riku. They put bugs in him!", or taking the time in 0.2 to explain why Mickey doesn't have a shirt in KH1, I'm just not sure how much you'll get out of this series.

You could also say that Xehanort himself was groomed by Master of Masters as a young lad so the entire KH saga is basically how the cycle of grooming can have universe shattering consequences I guess. (well, and also you're, the player, is technically to blame for that too, if the story of Dark Road is to be believed)

Mind you i'm speaking from ignorance here but it feels like a large part of what makes this so confusing to listen to(and it is, i got entirely lost just half an hour in to this) is that characters just kinda do things and appear in places. "Mickey is in hell" okay, how did he get there? What is he doing there? Why is he doing whatever he's doing? How did we find him there? Why are we even there in the first place? How did we get there? There's no sense of journey, no sense of place. It's not set up what we're trying to achieve nor how we're going about achieving it and all the characters just exist in this nebulous soup of things happening.

I will say, it probably doesn't help that this is also one of the messiest explanations of the story I've seen, albeit a very entertaining one. If you are interested in a more indepth and coherent explanation of the story of the games, I highly recommend the series done by Lore Dump on the series. It is a bit longer at 2+ hours per game in the series, but it explains things perfectly

Mickey went to the Realm of Darkness through a portal that opened in Traverse Town to find the Kingdom Key D that he needs to help Sora shut the Door to Darkness thus sealing away Ansem’s artificial Kingdom Hearts and restoring the worlds he destroyed, obviously. Sorry, not obviously, it’s actually quite confusing if you don’t read a bunch of secret reports and pay close attention to tiny cutscenes in three spinoff games.
