This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
According to Andrea Joós, being a teacher is indeed cool. In her fascinating talk, she demonstrates how teachers can decide on their attitude regarding education. The door of the classroom can be a prison door or an entrance to wonderland, behind which teachers can inspire future generations. Although it is a commonplace that education is in crisis, she still believes in finding a solution to the problem we are faced with.
Andrea Joós is a teacher of Biology and Natural Science at Deák Téri Evangélikus Gimnázium and at Lauder Javne School. She also teaches media, debating and English, and provides trainings upon request. For her, teaching Biology and science communication are tools for inspiring her students because it makes her happy seeing these students further on their life paths. In her teachings, she puts emphasis on experience-orientation and gamification (this latter one she learned from Tibor Prievara). She is convinced that it is not only professional excellence that makes a good teacher. Being a little peculiar and resorting to unconventional methods are also important factors when it comes to a teacher's efficiency. Andrea has her own radio programme on Klubrádió, called "Többet Ésszel" and a science communication themed blog, "Élménybiológia". She worked as an editor to TV programmes (Borvacsora, Fogadóóra) and has been an adviser to short films raising awareness of environmental issues.
