That picture with window mannequins and the Amazon guy reflects perfectly the whole essence of our consumer society. Perfectly nice picture of the form, but when you peel off that nice looking surface, you get the picture which is not so pleasant. Street photography that brings a message. Perfectly done!

Only been to NY once in December and Bryant park was an ice skating rink. Fabulous place. Stop and eat there, lots of people gathered around (pre-COVID days). I was only in NY 2 weeks (I live in Australia) so obviously I don't know NY but when people ask what's good about NY my answer is NY. It's just the whole thing, the whole place, the vibe..... amazing place; at least for a tourist. I keep my DSLR for the whole optical viewfinder experience as well; alongside my mirrorless camera with it's EVF. They're both great, just different. Love them both. Great photography BTW Omar, as always.

Best thing about the 5D Mark II, is swapping in the manual focus screen and shooting with manual lenses. I use my 5Dii mostly with my Voigtlander 40/2 SLIIs or Contax CY lenses. The camera is much better balanced as opposed to adapting nose heavy mirrorless cameras.

Super. Wow the "filmic" quality, maybe I just forgot what the color and texture of NYC is. But, yes, I clicked because I had the 5D mkII. So this was a special pleasure watching through your lens, thanks. Really liked the vlog and the things you said about your feelings per image. Here again, I title all my images, as I see the gist of my process to finished image has become a tale. I'm more the artsy photo taker, and understood your images look very painterly, or at least I get it, the steps back you've taken to create a scene. Wonderful video, thanks.........

Thanks this is is great. I watch all your videos and they are always informative and entertaining, but it's quite special to hear frank comments about what you shot, why you shot it, and what worked / didn't work in each case. I walk around my own city, Cape Town, shooting similar 'slice of life' scenes and I often wonder what it is about a scene that attracts me and what makes the resulting photo successful or not, so I found your comments on your own process and photos just really cool. Thanks for the weekly education and inspiration!

Omar... you're my favorite youtuber!!! Thank you for all you do... If you haven't tried a 5D mk1, you really should. With so much emphasis on megapixels these days, it produces amazing photos, and at only 12 Megs. The pics are arguably better than the mk2. But most importantly the photos are a joy to look at. Have a great weekend! Edit... I should have said favorite photographer/youtuber because you're fantastic at both... And I should've prefaced with that I own a 5D mk2, too. Both great. Seeing your photos from this trip I'm seeing the use of the 60-30-10 color rule and even a 70-30 split color use. Great thing to share such a brilliant thought…appreciated. I love my Nikon DSLR and i do not want to leave it for any reason. Is it that much difficult to understand the correct exposure on a DSLR, while taking photos? Is it a big deal? I used a Nikon z and canon r6 but still i recommend a DSLR for photography. Important thing is framing and composition.Type of view finder and display are secondary. Sensor capacity is big deal I believe.

I really enjoy my 6D for all the reasons you appreciate your 5D Mk2, although I specifically went for the 6 over that 5. I’m wanting the 40mm pancake next, and probably the old 100mm; 135 as a focal length was always a little too odd for me.
@kaminobatto2 жыл бұрын
I did just that a few days ago :) I went for an extensive two-day shoot and even though I had my Z fc with an 18-400mm, I ended up doing the entire shoot with my D800E and a 20mm 1.8 prime. The autofocus made me pull my hair at times and I found myself on several occasions manually focusing to get the shot as many shots were in low light. The challenge of composing with a fixed and wide field of view added to the enjoinment of the experience. My 5D MKII is on hiatus for now as I sold all of my Canon glass when I decided to make Nikon my system of choice back in 2020; however, it still holds a special place in my heart as the first full frame prosumer DSLR ever and I learned shooting manual and honing my photography skills with it back in 2011. There are many shots that I hold dear from this body and my first wedding shoot ever was using the 5D MKII. The only reason I don't shoot with it anymore is the high ISO noise and the comparatively low dynamic range, other than that, the body is fantastic even to this day and if you install a Magic Lantern CFW the jump in video capabilities is jaw-dropping!

the whole thing of slowing you down is actually what I've been doing with my own gere the last few weeks. I got myself the very first X100 from 2011, a camera that is old, slow, but somehow has wonderful colors. I'm usually using an X-T2 as my main camera setup, but by getting a few film simulation recipes, disabling the rear screen, and shooting JPEG only through the OVF, this has been a wonderful and fulfilling experience for sure. If you haven't triend one of those cameras, they are kinda cheap and they are what gets the closest to "digital film photography" if that makes any sense, both in look and user experience. I don't what the special sauce about that sensor, but damn are the images coming out of it nice

With fix lens, i can calibrate with the body, but with zoom lens i cant calibrate every focal range. And end up use live view most. Maybe i need to purchase lens from sigma or tamron with dock, before eyeing mirrorless again.

Carrying a rig that but digital, reminded me about lots of lenses, too many and no fixed viewpoint. Better the 50mm and all similar and cohesive. My opinion only. Smaller is better. Like how big are these images? Really. Not a criticism but observation. I quit that way back in late 60's. Smaller lighter faster and able to get closer.. Your framings are good. I NEVER use word 'compose' except for food shots. Go back, one lens, yes! The 50mm. Work harder. It's never casual! We are not casual but determined to nail images. Look forward to more.. All best. Yup! I am old..

Hey! I have watched a couple of your videos and first of all I just want to say that I am really enjoying them, made me laugh a couple of times and I had a pretty rough time lately so thanks a lot! You are so genuine and relaxed and I just enjoy it a lot. I also have a question, I have just started shooting again and I'm trying out different cameras. Most of the are a couple of years old. I have been trying Sony Nex 5, canon g9x mark ii, canon g12 and Lumix lx5. One thing that annoys me a bit is when I am shooting in low light, now to the question. Could you mention maybe 1 or 2 cameras that are good in low light? Im thinking about selling 1 or 2 cameras and buy a good camera that is also decent in low light but its like a jungle out there so its so hard just to "pick" one. Sorry for the long message:)

Man if there were any Canon I'd buy it'd be the 5D Mark II or D30, yes the 3mp one. I'll never forget a girl I met back in 2006 using the original 5D. We nearly swapped cameras at her studio. I had and still use a Nikon D200 but something about her images in studio I was amazed by. Fast forward years later and many cameras later, it wasn't the camera but that damn Canon 50mm 1.4 👌🏾 Back when there was no pixel or camera brand war 😌 good times. I still only had the kit lens at the time. To help on her shoot I'd actually ended up giving her a wireless trigger, talk about happy. She'd actually given me a job to work with a few models and a young actor that day.

Why would anyone sink money into a new crop sensor camera when you can get full frame on tech that's a little older and ten times as good for a fraction of the price? The only advantage the new stuff has over cameras like the 5D, 5D MkII, and 6D are cAmErA FeAtUrEs that make taking pictures slightly easier. And if you really want a bargain that will peel your ears back, check out the used market on the 7D, it's embarrassing how astoundingly good the 7D is for the price you can currently get one for, it really is the ultimate cropped sensor camera.
