Addiction is both but also neither. If something you do is having a clearly negative effect on your life and yet you continue to do it that's an addiction. Someone could spend $100 a day on E-girls instead of eating properly but be done in 10 minutes ORRR they could spend nothing and yet regularly waste entire days. Both would be symptoms of addiction. If you're regularly putting a habit in front of something you need that's an addiction.

I have a story: When I was in the military I had a friend who worked with coding and worked for a company, that help people to repair computers. He told that one day, a completely normal man came and left his laptop for some coding help in the workshop. It was nothing special for my friend until he opened the laptop and started to open his files. The laptop had hundreds of gigabits of hentai and child pornography, which were not hidden. The man probably thought he copied and deleted his secret files and didn’t check his laptop before leaving it to the company. Shocked, my friend first called the police and explained what he has found but the police didn’t 100% believe him. After the call, he went straight to the police and showed the files to the female officer he called, who replied after seeing the files: Ok, much more than I thought. The man was soon after arrested

I wanted to add this bit to expand upon what Khanlfani Wadlington said in a comment as well. Along with the time spent (rather along those same lines), how much it disrupts or interferes with daily life. Noticing the level of preoccupation (how often you think about it), and compulsions of wanting to look at it as well. Try going a week without looking at porn and notice how your body reacts. For some people this may be very easy, but other people may experience withdrawal symptoms. All depends on how often a person is engaging with it (frequency) and duration. Lines tend to get real blurry talking about porn addiction when you take into account different aspects of culture or school of thought into the concept of sex positivity and your personal stance on watching pornography. Hence back to the measurement of how much it disrupts, interrupts, or negatively influences your daily life.

This is literally the problem I'm having, it's not just the fact that it takes time out of my day which sometimes can be A LOT for the simple fact that this crushing guilt, addiction, etc make it hard for me to eeeh release let's say. But it's also about how it affects my day afterwards or before when thinking about it or after doing it when having to deal with the guilt of doing something I despise. Worst part is, it's so hard to quit because it's what I rely on for dopamine hits so while I sometimes can go a week or so without doing it there's always a point where I feel too down or my hormones get the best of me and I fall back into doing it. It's also hard because like most young people I was introduced to this shit at like 12, and kids nowadays I know are starting even younger.

That's what happens when someone warps their own perception of a once relative concept which then becomes foreign. Quite ironic if I say so myself, but I think this can easily apply to MOST (not all) people of our generation (the generation of social media, the internet, etc. Basically people born anywhere from the late 90's-2000's to now) But it's pretty normal to have for many, as most of us have done and still keep doing it to ourselves and people around us sub-consciously, regardless of whether we ever intended to or not. Buying a game is different, as it's interactable and in your mind you acknowledge that everything in it was designed and made by someone with a lot of man hours. Where as, like the porn star they had as a guest once said, they go in for 1 day of filming, and then it's just the matter of editing. Same with just images. It takes a lot of hours to draw and finalize a good image. And it's to satisfy Your fantasy, instead of some other guys. It is very different from normal porn. And you also partly treat it as art, opposed to normal porn. Hentai enjoyers see normal porn as "low effort" thus they don't see value in it.

@@GreatMCGamer the point of this talk was addiction. It doesn't matter how much talent or time went into making something because addiction is addiction at the end of the day. It takes a lot of time, effort and talent to make certain wines but if someone is an alcoholic who only drinks the finest wine, it doesn't make them any less addicted to alcohol. That's what you and the trash taste podcast seem to be missing here. It's not different because people can be addicted to anything, including games, and it will have a hugely adverse affect on their life. Edit: you're also minimising a lot of the hard work some Porn actors do. The one that guested on this show talked about filming for hours until her body literally ached. Regardless of how you view sex workers, any job that requires hours of physical activity is difficult. It's not "low effort" compared to drawing especially since there are way more risks that come with it.

Speaking as someone who is a recovering porn addict (currently over a month without it and not looking back) You know you're addicted not when you spend money on it, but when it starts overtaking your life. When you start using it as a substitute for real life connection and when it starts taking control of you. When you get to a point where you don't wanna watch and you know you will be worse off if you do it and it starts effecting you in your everyday life. I'll use myself as an example, I'm a 25 year old virgin because the porn addiction prevented me from being attracted to women in that way. Of course it effects you in other aspects, but that was one of the main ones for me. The one thing I can say to anybody going through anything related is to talk with somebody. I would suggest speaking with a therapist and when the right moment happens, speak with a beloved family member or friend. Speaking from experience, recovery becomes so much easier when you don't have to hide it from everybody. If it wasn't for speaking with people, I wouldn't have discovered my potential diagnosis or symptoms of ADD or ADHD and learned that that it was one of the major reasons I became an addict due to people with ADD, ADHD or at least symptoms of it also commonly having highly addictive personality traits. I know this comment is a few months late, but if anybody reads this with any questions, feel free to reply

for anyone wondering, addiction is when you are habituated to doing a rewarding action routinely without specific reason, accompanied with withdrawals when stopped, and the fact this behaviour causes you serious dysfunction in your life (financially / socially /physiologically / psychologically). Addiction can happen to any action, including having sex, watching porn, playing games, eating stuff, watching likes stats, etc. So if you feel like you are having this symptoms associated with any kind of action, you might be addicted. The moment you realize you are addicted to Adult Content is when you can not go without it. For example, the moment I realized I had such an addiction, I realized that I couldn't go more than a day or two without feeling like I need to watch a video. Spending money on adult content is another addiction in itself (thankfully not one that I have). But being addicted means that the content takes up your life. It becomes a need. Something that will also become embarassing and hidden from loved ones. Once you try going without something and you feel that you need it again (even though you really do not) that is when you can tell you are hooked. At least that is how I found out in my experience.

@@Organicwatermelon123 I often disagree with them but theyre right on this. Hentai **game** is just not equivalent to a porn video. Hentai video is. With a game its a bit like a normal video game - you play it for many hours, it has story/gameplay etc. You pay for the porn part of it too but i think thats usually the smaller part. Hard to say how common this is but i think most people rarely jack off to hentai games. I know i dont. Whereas "paying for porn" as they describe it implies youre either - paying for a video/subscription to jack off to regularly or - paying a camgirl for a essentially one-sided relationship (that you can jack off to too, i guess?) Very different. There are of course "hentai" equiavalents to porn videos too that are just jerk off material. Paying for that is the same as paying for porn, yes.
@deletedaccount63883 жыл бұрын
@@MrDezokokotar I fail to understand why you would think people buy eroges and porn videos for different reasons. People buy both for the same reason: to be aroused/jack off. As someone who experienced a behavioral addiction (social media, not porn, but same technical category) what makes it an addiction is when it fucks up your ability to be a person, that could be spending a lot of money, it could also be spending so much time that you dont get enough sleep; and if you try to stop you gotta drag your brain out of it kicking and screaming for like a month straight it sucksss. I really wish more people were willing to address this issue! As far as the mechanics of addiction, because of the massive hit of dopamine, etc. that gets released, it acts exactly like a drug addiction in the brain. Sociologically, porn becoming mainstream has obliterated people's understanding of relationships and sex, to the point where humiliating and degrading crap is considered normal, and all intimacy is lost, and when the act doesn't deliver the intimacy expected, people assume the other person must not be the one for them and move on, rather than addressing the source of their warped expectations and actions. With it becoming more and more prevalent, we see children being exposed to it younger and younger, and this of course has disastrous consequences. And none of this even starts to address the abuse in the industry or that comes from those who are addicted to it to a less obvious degree (unwilling to give it up for a relationship, but also unwilling to admit how much of a habit it is for them, or how much it actually interferes in their lives), let alone how this affects relationships where it plays the role of an actual mistress... People act like the only reasons I have for hating the entire industry in all its forms are because of my religious beliefs or because I must be some sort of prude, but the more I learn from workers and addicts and others with relevant experience... it's truly terrifying.

It becomes an addiction when it interferes with your daily life. When you do it in a dirty toilet at your workplace, when you refuse to go out and make friends because you want to watch porn, when you spend half a day in front of a naked girl on a screen instead of doing your homework or chores, when it is costantly on your mind, when you waste hundreds of dollars on it, when you fail at school for the second year in a row, to the point of dropping out becouse when you're home it's the only damned thing you do! It becomes an addiction when although you are aware of ALL the negative sides of it, you just cant stop, no matter how many times you attempt to do so. As someone with an addictive personality, I know what it’s like to be addicted to things. It really sucks sometimes. I have to be very careful when I’m viewing porn. I never look at live action porn, mostly because I personally find it gross (to each their own though), but also because the last thing I want is to become addicted to that kind of porn. I have a line that I won’t cross. I honestly wouldn’t put it past me if viewing a couple of videos on porn hub lead to me becoming addicted. But my god... hentai can be really addictive. Right now it’s at the level where it’s not really too concerning because I still have a life. I even go out for fun and spend time with friends and look at other innocent things online as well. But if I’m ever regularly spending money on cam girls or allowing my interest in porn ruin my life in any way, that’s when I know I have a problem.

I mean twitch streaming is almost the same as adult streaming in terms of how the revenue streams work. I've never paid for porn. But vtubers have made me realise that the line is blurring, it happened before with normal twitch girls, but vtubers is the first time i've really taken notice of it as it sort of entered my area of the internet. And I like vtubers alot even though I've not donated besides the odd sub, or for their charity streams. But with western vtubers really starting with projekt melody who is a chaterbate camgirl turned regular streamer. It really does highlight the similarities in how they work. Also melody is awesome. Tbh its not even a sexual thing it's just the prospect of donating money to streamers in general is a weird mental hurdle to get over. But it does makes sense a twitch sub is likea cinema ticket, and is an optional way of paying them back for providing hours of entertainment.

I think that Garnt and Joey unintentionally give the impression that porn 'should be free', which is something I don't believe that they believe in. I've heard them before talking about streaming anime content illegally, but they are also big on supporting the creators and series' that they enjoy and believe are worthwhile. Porn/erotic stuff is no different from anime or graphic novels or music, in that you should support the things that you enjoy and enhance your life in whatever way you are capable of supporting them (now or in the future). Porn is 'free' in the way that other media is 'free', and access for the underpriviliged is a good thing, but ethically it is important to return some of the value that you recieve from whatever media/service/creator.

The way I see it is the same as Video Game Addiction. 1. You put off things you need to do/that are required of you for your Addiction. Whether it be Health or Financial Well-Being. 2. You put off time with friends and family in favor of your addiction. 3. Feeling irritable, frustrated or depressed due to not having access to it. Such as sitting at work and being unable to think about anything else. 4. Gradually becoming more invested in alternative/less-vanilla pornography until the stuff you can get easily just isn't doing it anymore. This then results in spending money on the stuff you want to watch because finding it elsewhere is too difficult. For game's it's a little different, if you find yourself not having fun or "Chasing the Gamer's High." and never achieving it, quit playing that game. This is why I quit League of Legends 3 year's ago. The most important thing here is Moderation. Self-Moderation is hard but incredibly important. Do you actually want to watch Porn? Do you actually need it? Why not use your imagination instead, maybe write out your fantasies, draw them. I would also say this is part of the Addiction, being unable to get off without porn.

This a pretty standard and I’d say conservative take. 1st off addiction isn’t “buying porn” it’s when porn consumes ones life. Let’s make it something different, alcohol. If someone buys some really expensive whiskey and drinks it like once a week to relax I wouldn’t call them an alcoholic. However, if someone speeds less than idk 50$ a week on cheap beer they drink daily to get drunk they are an alcoholic. It interferes with their life, even tho it’s cheap. 2nd, idk why it’s automatically seen as “sad” to buy porn. You all are anime fans, couldn’t someone make the same case for anime? Hell, I remember about 6 years ago when anime streaming was just starting to take off and people would be called crazy for getting a Crunchyroll sub. You’re paying to enjoy quality content of the entertainment you enjoy. I think people just get all weird cause it’s sex related, and people inherently wanna correlate sex with idk romance or more traditional values, I suppose. So it’s seen as kind of a social failure to pay for porn. 3rd:In terms of OF subbing, well I just view OF sex workers as entertainers no different than streamers. People won’t look at someone odd for donating to a fav streamer, but subbing to an OF model they find attractive is odd? “But what about Parasocial relationships?” Well sure, that’s an issue, but it’s not exclusive to sex work. Many KZbinrs have fans who have parasocial relationships with them. I’m reminded of when Pewdiepie’s psn tag was shown and people messaged him in drones expecting a friendship, which he responded “We’re not friends!”. Simply put, it’s just entertainment. Nothing more and nothing less, and it’s to be enjoyed as such. It’s just people’s perception that makes it “sad”.

Yes i also have an addiction but what i always do is breathe in and breathe out and come back to it later. Addiction can also be a super fan of something positive too like anime or manga or even cosplay just without the adult content or videos. If yall need to talk to someone about this go talk to a friend or if ur religion go talk to the priest or someone is these comments because they been same concept your doing and they understand your pain but in all seriousness the time of addiction to stop is doing something else to get it off your mind.

Well imma come out here fellas I'm addicted to porn in my own way. Ever since my friend introduced me to porn I have been nonstop thinking about sex constantly since middle school. Every days perverted thoughts just cross through my head. I never talk about and at school i would be made fun of for how innocent people thought I was and how I acted. I have never had a girlfriend. Many girls have showed at least a passion interest and people always say I'm good looking and I dont think I'm the worst as I am athletic and all that. But I have such a unhealthily mindset of the idea of sex I just dont think I would be happy in a relationship. I was innocent when first exposed to it and now it honestly ruined so much. Obviously I need to take my own personal responsibility but I soeant years just ashamed of myself for it now I'm kinda numb to it. The thoughts just dont stop and it just always there. I havent spent money on it liek this and I can live my life in normalcy. Never told anyone this before and I dont ever plan on it. If I die alone so be it. It's too embarrassing. But nobody knows me on here so here I am. Got I need to get laid I guess lol

I don't think spending money on porn is "dangerous". Like any field, there will be people who don't know how to engage with their hobby in a healthy way and will obsess. Addiction is when it causes a disruption in normal life habits and functions, when you're doing something even when you don't want to do it because you feel you have to. I can imagine someone spending money on "premium" porn content maybe wants a higher quality than the free stuff out there.
