Rachel is INFJ if I'm not mistaken! It suits her perfectly. I don't know about Jun.
@lukedupont62388 жыл бұрын
shadooplucy She strikes me as very much a Perceiving > Judging, as does Jun. I'm curious why you think she's J? She's very open-minded and unassuming, and doesn't strike me as an orderly-type. I could see how she comes off as very "Fe" sometimes (if you're familiar with the functions underlying the types), but that's one of the reasons I actually suspect she may be Ti/Ne/Si/Fe (INTP). Jun is very likely the same - either INFP or INTP, but I don't know either well enough to say for certain. I'm confident on the I, N, and P parts, just not the T/F. By the way, as for the Myers-Briggs assessment, I find that results are biased in favor of J>P and I>E (so P's often get J as a result, and E's often get I), so I wouldn't trust it too much. The best way to identify yourself, or someone else, is to have a solid understanding of the psychological functions and try to avoid arbitrary descriptions of what a particular type is. I used to be under the impression that I was INTJ, for instance, before digging deeper into it and discovering that I'm definitely INTP, not J -- the functions being very different (Ti Ne Si Fe versus Ni Te Fi Se).
@shadooplucy8 жыл бұрын
***** I don't think she's a J, I believe she's said it herself before. My first thought was INFP as well but I know some INFJs who are lovely! She's open minded but very persistent about her stances, very justice-like, so that can come off as J. As for Thinking, I really don't see that in her - her opinions on things are very feeling-based and emotionally driven, if you've seen her rant-like videos. Jun, however, I could see him being an INTP, but that could be because of the stoic impression I get from him (not to say INFPs can't be stoic but I think their feelings show a tad more) in the older vids. Comments used to (although rudely I might add) call him a "robot" which is a usual stereotype on Thinker types. You may be right as lots of people get mistyped, that's why usually further research is necessary. I myself consistently get INFP on tests but believe I could be ISFP. Also a lot of this is just based on gut feelings. And sorry Rachel if you see this and it's like we're talking about someone in the room while they're there.

Many points you touched on are so so so on point! The whole being an enthusiastic, energetic teacher for young children really drains you as more or less introverted person. I am definitely not suited for such work as an introvert. Also, changing how one speaks to suit the level of the class for low-level learners was also very hard for me at first.

I'm introverted. I'm happy spending my time alone at home, having 1 good friend and doing my own things. But with that comes anxiety. Many situations make me really anxious. For example, having to travel somewhere by myself that I have never been to before, meeting new people and also I'm job searching right now and the thought of it makes me really anxious. :( Also... I get sick of my mum asking me what's wrong. I have a "resting bitch face" where I usually look grumpy even though I'm not. 😂 It sucks but I can't change it

I'm so feeling you.... I'm always being stressful or getting anxious when I don't even need to. I mean I tell to myself " relax, everything is alright, look at other people " etc. etc. but it still doesn't help. Even if I understand that it's wrong I can't control it. Sometimes it gets very annoying and tiring that I can't behave normally :/ For example I feel uncomfortable being in a crowded places, that includes restaurants, cafes, cinema and other places. I can't even relax while eating there lol >_< sometimes my heart starts beating so much that I think I'm gonna die. I think these are panic attacks or something... I only feel good with close friends, family members or alone.

I think being an introvert got easier as an adult than as a teenager as well. Everyone has their own stuff going on and naturally there's less of an expectation of being energetic, out there and social all the time. on the subject of teaching, I taught English as a second language to children in Portugal and I totally agree that it is so draining for an introvert to teach several large classes. Even though it can be amazing. for like... a couple hours. then I'm dead forever

Like you said, we just need time to recharge our batteries before we can feel up to it again. I'm generally introverted, I do like my private time at home and the ability to roam about my home city and explore. But as I've gotten older I realize that's cost me a lot as far as having close friends. I had to accept the fact that I get almost painfully lonely a lot, and need to have some good friends that I can talk to about anything. So recently I've been putting myself out there in more social situations where I have to reach out to other people and make connections with them. That bond is what's been missing from my life and it's stunted my personal growth. Thank you for the video. Japan is a place I've always wanted to visit, and it seems like somewhere I'd enjoy without feeling too much like an outsider.

I'm INTJ! I think introversion is often misunderstood as being a recluse/never going anywhere or not having friends, no matter how you try to explain it. One thing I do wonder though, do you find it more difficult to make (Japanese) friends in Japan? I feel like it might be harder to connect with people beyond an "acquaintance" level if most people are private or keep to themselves.

I'm a Brit, and where I'm from specifically is a city famous for Robin Hood. Either way, culturally we're similarly introverted--it's pretty much in our etiquette. Although in school and the workplace, it's very extrovert-centric. It's definitely frustrating how introversion and shyness are often confused or seen as mutually inclusive. LIke you, I'm not shy. But being an INTJ-A (probably one of the most reserved types next to INFJs)--I've often been mislabeled as shy. Bailing out of parties or other social gatherings at the last minute? Yep, guilty of that in the past. Although I've learned how to better balance things out over the years, prepare myself before hand, recognise social hangovers and how to recover. So it's something I do less of these days.

Introverted and trending to hermit : ). Love the drained battery analogy, I'm not anti-social, but it is draining. I actually found that being comfortable with your own company an asset during my visits to Japan where I was spending long days out-and-about without even the ability to speak to anyone. On a slight down side, I am also uncomfortable being the centre of attention which is a little inevitable when you are a little off the beaten track and are the only red headed foreigner around. I am an introvert too, but I am always amazed how many introverts express themselves through a camera at KZbin. That's why I love Japan, they value the introvert type of person, although they might expect you to be loud and noisy and crazy since you and me look like foreigners. Did you experience this situation? That you didn't fit in the Japanese expectations of a foreigner? I can imagine how difficult it must be to live in north america specially in the US as an introvert - a culture where being outgoing and doing crazy stuff is being regarded as the only way to go.

INFP-A "Mediator personalities are true idealists, always looking for the hint of good in even the worst of people and events, searching for ways to make things better. While they may be perceived as calm, reserved, or even shy, Mediators have an inner flame and passion that can truly shine. Comprising just 4% of the population, the risk of feeling misunderstood is unfortunately high for the Mediator personality type - but when they find like-minded people to spend their time with, the harmony they feel will be a fountain of joy and inspiration." Wow. That's pretty spot on :) Particularly in the end there, I've got a friend who I feel have a similar personality, and when I'm with him I enjoy myself so much. They say only 4% of the population are like us, but I see so many comments here of people who are INFP, that I think we all really like Micaela's videos :)

I actually saw you in Tenjin one time. I didn't say hi because I didn't want to be rude and bother you. I feel the same exact way about being an American. Here in the States, I noticed people tended to be uncomfortable around me growing up because I am an introvert. Unless I'm super outgoing with people, I was labeled as antisocial and weird. In Japan, I actually felt more comfortable to be myself and it allowed me to open up without someone trying to force it out of me. However, I would be really uncomfortable in Japan for being constantly stared at. Feeling like there are eyes on me really got to me after a while. So, I liked the fact that people didn't mind that I am introverted but the constant staring made me paranoid. I'm actually looking to go back to Japan, but I think I can find better ways to cope while I'm out in public.

Being an introvert did not prevent me from doing a good job in either position. I am an introvert and am that way for many cautious reasons. Antisocial behavior personality disorder is what I have been diagnosed with at a very early age! It doesn't matter what country you live in because too many evil people are all around you period! I can't handle stress of any social situations outside the home situation where I feel safe from society and the world in general! I am not saying that it's a crutch in any way, but a blessing in disguise, keeping me out of the wicked mindedness of this evil world with all the problems that come of it, evil agendas, plans and so on!

For me as an introvert the thing that's draining is keeping track of other people's state of mind. So alone time is easy. Going out with one person is a challenge but rewarding. Groups are really hard - too many minds. But crowds are easy, since I'm not expected to keep track of their minds. I love being anonymous in crowds.

Wow what an important video! I think your observation that it's easier to be an introvert in Japan is true reflecting on my personal experience too. In the US, media culture favors extroversion I read somewhere - while in other cultures, for example in Northern Europe films, leading roles can be much less extroverted. I also think your point about the effect of self-labeling does indeed make a difference. It's like they perceive you as self-reporting an illness lol. I learned that it's better to not self-label like that, now that I see its impact much clearer. People often don't know the meaning of introversion based on the original, Jungian archetypal psychology. Just like you say, introversion does not mean shy, anti-social, weak, having low self-esteem, lacking leadership skills, lacking social skills, lacking skills in presentations, sad/depressed or never energetic. If they want to know what it really means, they can look it up lol. When some people don't enjoy parties, it can be because they like to be productive, like to be doing something even more fun, or even think they don't enjoy getting stupid (or herd mentality) maybe, not because they're shy. Micaela's observations always seem to be spot on, deep, and really helpful for us to understand each other more. I love it. Congratulations on your 11th year in Japan!! What an achievement!! A true senpai!!!

To be fair, nowadays there's way too many people who say they're introverted but are actually just socially akward. I'm pretty introverted but I just meet so many people who say the same but then are unable to socialize which is a shame because they could really use the help.

Supposedly, at this moment this channel has 294 videos. There used to be an idol duo called Tsukushi 294. The number of the Japanese contact in the "You Only Live Twice" Bond movie was 294.

I'm also an INTP, and a huge introvert! I think that learning more about psychology and personality type has actually allowed me to better understand and accept myself, as well as understand and get along with other people. I used to think that I should grow myself by learning to/forcing my self to be more outgoing, and I created a lot of anxiety for myself trying to be this way. I would compare myself to others who have traits that I look up to, and wonder why I can't be that way. But, I've found that this isn't a healthy way of thinking; it's better to know yourself, and focus on your strengths, and accepting and being comfortable with who you are. By thinking this way, I removed a lot of pressure and anxiety that I was needlessly burdening myself with, and I'm able to be more comfortable and confident now, and just relax and be myself around people. As a result, I'm more social and get along better with people without trying. I think that we can often get caught up in the trap of striving too hard, thinking that to be the answer, when the real answer is to just understand and accept things, and strive less.

Haha. So many of us! Birds of a feather flock together, I suppose? Or uh, introverted-thinking-extroverted-intuitives flock to the internet, at any rate. Being introverts, we flock together, but separately.

I start off very open and happy with people and talk a lot out of nervousness But deep down I am hoping the person goes away. I attract friends a lot and they want to be around me but I do not want to be around them. I have spurts where I want to hang out with people. But 90 percent of the time I want to be alone Learning something or reading something or exploring anything new and foreign. That being said I love people who are not native to my country. Right now I am up late studying French 1:30 am. While at work I daydream of being home studying something. On my lunch hour I want to be left alone. But people come to my desk and bother me anyway. I hate it. I do not like office party's so I call in sick. So my coworkers say things behind my back. It's crazy b cause. I don't care if they like me or not I just want to be left alone to daydream when I have free time at work. I avoid coworker chat as much as possible. But when they do corner me I nervous talk.

Oh, I'm the same! An INTP :) I recently found my high school results and I was INFP, but I feel like the description for INTP matches my personality more closely.

I am introvert. I think Japan is a perfect place for me😅
The introvert life is an interesting one. I've used the last minute "I need a rain check cause I'm sick" trick before too when I had plans with friends or family, lol. It is exhausting being out all the time. I'd rather be at home in my pajamas! Not everyone understands it, but there are people out there who do ^__^ It's just who we are!

I heard the same things from my parents growing up, haha. I really wish people would realize there are all kinds of personalities out there, it drives me crazy when my friends insist I'm being "unhealthy" if I don't want to hang out with them at the parties 24/7.

When I was younger I never fit in and was uncomfortable now that I am older I embrace it. I really do not like being around people too much unless your strange or foreign or very intelligent or weird or into the arts. I mean really into the arts. Al. Others I cannot stomach
