I’ve got a really cool idea for Portal 3 that I wish Valve would see and steal from me. Portal 3 is in a really weird position because the way Portal 2 leaves off doesn’t leave much room for a sequel - at least not with the same characters we have in Portal 2. A Portal game without Glados would be disappointing, a Portal game with Glados but no Chell wouldn’t have the same personal feel, and a Portal game with both together would cheapen Portal 2’s ending - and the same goes for Wheatley. So my idea: In Portal 3 you play as Doug Rattmann, awoken far in the future from hibernation and forced to escape from an incredibly advanced Aperture, while dealing with the taunts of a Glados who may or may not be telling the truth when she says she’s reformed, may or may not kill you on sight, and may or may not be a vivid hallucination. Rather than going through test chambers run by the facility, you go through long-forgotten back passages and abandoned testing tracks, occasionally cutting through the present-day Aperture. With Glados in charge and free of her morality cores, Aperture has long since moved on from the original ASHPoD. The main mechanic of the game would be finding and switching between Portal Guns of different kinds - from circular portals to rectangular ones, different colors, portals that destroy living matter or only allow humans through them, etc. Put up multiple sets of portals at once with different guns! Drop a Portal Gun off so emancipation grids can’t reset it! Use accelarant portals to fling yourself further, use a Portal Gun with a slow projectile speed for timing puzzles, use portals with the safety off to cut things in half, send objects into another reality with a one-way portal! The possibilities are limitless!
@ultmateragnarok83762 жыл бұрын
Well, Chell does not really have anywhere to go, and GLaDOS doesn't care about her anymore. The surface world is in an unknown state but likely not the best, given Aperture is in upper Michigan, and the entirety of North America is considered lost by humanity, so there's that. Solid chance she ends up falling back into the facility anyways, with how deteriorated the upper levels are, and Rattman is possibly still up there in the top levels where GLaDOS no longer bothers monitoring or maintaining. The Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center still has plenty of secrets to uncover, after all - the true fate of Cave Johnson, for instance, while known from another random Valve game has not been acknowledge by the main Portal series. The point in time Portal 2 leaves off at relative to Half-Life, more on the interactions between Aperture and Black Mesa, the potential independent autonomy of other Aperture Science facilities being still active to some degree, Aperture tech built by GLaDOS leaking into the above world, potential interactions between GLaDOS and the Combine or the remainder of humanity, and so on. Plenty of ways for it to go and GLaDOS and Chell will likely end up back together by some twist of fate. Plus, the Combine could easily stumble across Wheatley in space, too - he's quite close to Earth.

I really like the big white gel room, just because it shows that valve actually knows how to have fun with the player. What they basically did was make a big fuckin sandbox for the player to just use a portal, have some white gel, and do what they want. Have fun with it, it's your little playbox. Play with the white goop. Not a word is said, and yet you get that feeling like a little kid who just got to play with a fun toy in a big open room. Figure out what the white gel can do with free reign. Paint the entire room white if you want. And the rest of the game kinda gives you this feeling. Solve the puzzle however you want. Make some mistakes, find some cool shit. Play *with* the game, not against it. You know, like you should do with a game.

The escape sequence and the main twist both are such great parts. I love the characterization, the animations, the way things are shown to work. That versatile set of arms below the main core, the way the central chamber reacts to Wheatley's movements, the way GLaDOS brings down an entire room and several test chambers just to try to slow you down. Such a good game. The lighting during the twist sequence is great, too - a dull greyish while GLaDOS is in control, and everything going darker as the scene does, with GLaDOS being physically torn from her body and the facility losing its guiding mind, until everything brightens with Wheatley's connection. Then it darkens until the glow of the bay below him gives him a red underglow, fitting his sudden personality change. And he has the audacity to claim that he did all the sacrifices and work, while you merely tell him what to do, when indeed the roles are reversed - you do all the work and he only instructs you! So well-written. As for added elements, yes, Portal 2 did include a whole lot of additional elements. The lasers replace the high-energy pellets of the last game, visible in the first chamber when they're shown replacing a high-energy pellet emitter and receptacle. They can now go through glass and grates, whereas previously only sight lines went through glass and only bullets, portals and sight lines went through grates. Other additions include: -Aerial Faith Plates -Crushers, replacing the pistons of the last game for the most part -Panels, making the place feel more alive and versatile -'Discouragement Redirection Cubes', being the lens cubes for redirecting lasers -Hard-Light Bridges and Hard-Light Walls, both being the same but one turned 90 degrees to the side -Excursion Funnels and their inverted counterparts -The three gel types, Repulsion, Propulsion, and Conversion, as Adhesion gel never made it into the game -Water, for washing gels away And of course all of those are in addition to the Emancipation Fields, cubes, buttons, cube buttons, turrets, doors, moving platforms, corrosive and acidic sludge floors, and of course the portals themselves. So many things to put together, so many possibilities.

Portal 2 was my introduction to the portal universe, I had a Xbox 360 but not a pc gaming rig to play portal at the time.

Could anyone please tell me what that tune at 1:11:22 is from? It's filled me with a strange sense of nostalgia while also making me die of laughter.

JK Simon's has a lot of roles where he doesn't have a mustache. A good example is Stan Ford from Gravity Falls. I you haven't seen that show before, YOU NEED TO WATCH IT BECAUSE IT IS A MASTERPIECE!

What I'm quite interested with is, has he clocked on that an input usually has a line to what it activates?

Valve actually tested Portal 2 extensively in VR, but momentum-based puzzles simply don't work. In the real world and in Portal 2, you fall at an accelerating rate, but that causes too much motion sickness in VR. That's why, in Half-Life: Alyx, you instead fall at a constant rate, for player comfort.

I’ve heard folks compare the splatoon 2 octo expansion to Portal 2-based on this part of the game, I can see the similarities now.

Huh, I never thought of that myself but that does feel kinda accurate thinking about it. Old test chambers deep underground...

There is no Portal 3, but there is a mini prequel titled "Aperture Desk Job" created as a tech demo for the Steam Deck and it's just as brilliant. Please play it too!

I said it on the last video, but make sure you check out Portal Stories Mel, and Portal Reloaded. They are both mods but very well done and can be downloaded as games on steam.

"The immediate past president of the being alive club" is one of my all time favorite lines in this game. There are so many to choose from, but when I'm playing a game and I die, I always say that line haha

Beautiful game, and a pretty fun play/reaction! Why do I want Portal 3? Cause 1 was an amazing experience and 2 was one of the best games I have ever played, so 3 only can be heaven on Earth!
