Black Americans have a different experience of race. Black is inclusive while White is exclusive. A person who is Chinese and White, the Chinese separates them from being "entirely White" or participating in dominant privilege. Meanwhile, a person who is Chinese and Black, the community will say, "he's Black." And it's not because someone's trying to erase the Chinese Identity, it's because White-Passing, Biracial, AfroLatinx, Light-Skinned, and Black-on-Both-Sides are all Black Experiences. For most of us, if the police pull us over, the cops aren't asking our percentages. A person who is White-Passing will inevitably find themselves in a situation where a person will exhibit Anti-Blackness in front of our light friend because they think it's safe to say such things in front of assumed White People: that's also a Black Experience.

Love this conversation. I'm not biracial myself but my cousins are. It took time to understand the overwhelming nature of having so much culture. The African American experience is so overwrought from forced homogeny extending from slave times and understanding our individually lived experiences and differences is still new. A biracial person's experience within the communities they identify with is valid and not lessened by having more than one culture that they can identify with. We really need to move away from the checked box mentality. I hope my cousins and their kids will ever be subjected to "other" ever again.

man... Asian racism is usually stalking folks in grocery stores. Is it annoying? Sure it is. But it ain't violent. I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that black on Asian violence is the only violence Asians receive, but if we're gonna address the anti blackness within the Asian community, so too, do we need to address the anti Asian-ness within the black community. Now, to be fair, this seems like an American immigrant thing. I'm a Canadian born second generation immigrant residing in Québec (yes I speak French) and I haven't had any problems with 99% of black, Arab, Asian, Latino, or white adults I've met that were educated (college and above). A lack of education is what causes most discrimination imo. Am I expecting every person of every color of every age out there to not be discriminatory? No. It is not realistic. But you are actually free as a person to discriminate, and here's the important part. You are free to discriminate so long as you do not cause bodily harm. As for Blasians; Blasians will oftentimes be told they're not Asian enough and they're not black enough by both communities. However, Blasians should know that the *American* black culture is actually ruined. The glorification of hood culture is unhealthy. You can search on KZbin and there are lots of black as the night folks who talk about this, and that's how I actually learned of this issue within the black community. And if the black community stopped for a sec and took the time to look around them, they'll see plenty of honest, hard working black dudes becoming successful, by desiring things other than becoming a rapper. If I'm going to be honest, I think that racism within the black community against Asians is more severe of a problem than the Asian racism against the black community, based on the severity of the cases (read violence)

it's weird to compare Blasian vs Wasian. Why because we all know Wasian gets more love from the Asian community than Blasian. Are there any Blasians in Kpop right now? Doubt it. There are tons of Wasians in it. Also Wasian has many names. Happa, Hafu. Amerasian, Eurasian. Blasian was just that. This one name by itself. Then the Happa came along and jacked the Blasian name, remixed into Wasian. It makes sense to call them that. half white half Asian = Wasian. But the name Blasian has been around since the seventies in Caribbean communities. Wasian as a name came out a few years ago from Social Media. @@devonb882 Moon is awesome. But what I like about her, she made it happened. She came to Korea from France to become a Korean rapper. She's not even part Korean. She's part Vietnamese. She learned the Korean language on her own. She was not selected through the KPOP process. She forged her own destiny. Making my point even clearer. Koreans like mixed Black and white because the mixed person may have green eyes or some feature that isn't traditionally black or asian. It's kind of how they feel about South East Asians. Racism is systemic. Idk why that wasn’t just said plainly. Pigeon holing black people, and reducing their humanity is why all this is happening. It’s not harmless joking, these thoughts and ideas are formed, and segregated communities keeps these stereotypes real. Being mixed is a joy, because you see how silly cultural identity is. Just be who you are and like what you like, but question both by asking yourself WHY do I believe I am who I am, and WHY do I believe I like what I like. There we go again trying to tell people who they are ; their DNA and how they should identify. Why do people think they have a right to tell how you should identify? This racial category construct has only worked for those who use it for division, discrimination and archaic stereotypes. What are we going to do next? Should we prove that all white people are 100% European? What if they have Arabic or Eurasian blood? Are all Native Americans going to pass someone’s idea of how pure or mixed they are? My granddaughter is not only mixed race but also part Catholic Irish, Jewish and Orthodox Christian. They celebrate all these religions, cultures and races . I think she is very blessed to belong to all these groups and doesn’t have to explain what percent of her DNA belongs to which race. African American are mixed just as lots of white Americans are not pure European. The history of the US makes it easier to understand why. There are lots of white Americans who have some black, Native American blood in them. Unless they are truly from Europe, chances are they are not pure either. That is the elephant in the room of these race discussions. There is more to it than meets the eye but most people are scared of the discussions because of the political, economic, social and systemic impact of racism in America.

However, as black people are allowed to have their own group and not want to be represented, nor lumped together with people who are mixed race. It contributes to black people’s erasure. I watch lot of Chinese historical dramas and in China they don't produce and write ancient Chinese dramas from 1st dynasties. why don't they put brown blasian actors or produce. A a historical dramas especially pertaining to the ancient first 3 dynasties were black like the shang dynasty for example. There are books African pre ents in early China. Filipinos don't claim to be the Asian blacks. They (we) claim to be the Asian Latinos or Mexicans. It's due to also being colonized by Spain - similar religion, customs, etc. Re: the present Ms Philippines, Fung bros did an episode re: her recently. Yes she's Blasian. She faced a lot of difficulties & bullying while she was growing up because of her skin color. IMO, she won because she was the best candidate for her time - it's not due to being "woke" or PC. Based on netizens remarks, there were many comments of "why her?" - she isn't pretty enough, she's dark, she isn't full Filipino, etc. Those comments weren't there when the Ms PH was a Wasian (e.g Pia Wurtzbach, Catriona Gray) or even mixed Asian (Venus Raj - half Indian, Michelle Dee - w/ Chinese ancestry). It's good that Filipinos are becoming more accepting of Blasians. Several of them (who have been in show business in one way or another) - Wilma Doesnt: a model/ actress, Luke Mijares (singer), Jay Rey (singer for Black Eyed Peas), Jinky Oda (actress) - in their interviews, they said that they all experienced bullying during childhood.

When I first saw that guy (I was just a young kid) I thought he was Chinese. But when I looked up his Wiki page years later, it turns out he's actually half Afro-Caribbean (from dad's side) and half white English (from mom).
