I’m from the Black Country & get the same bewilderment. And being white I get “Black Country? Are you being racist? “No, it’s a place” “But you’re being racist yeah?” “No, it’s a place. The Black Country is a place” You have to tell people SLOOOOWLY & thoroughly what “The Black Country” actually means. 🙄🙄 I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve had this conversation.

You can't vaccinate against ignorance, sadly .The funny thing is ,they think they are so PC and sooo liberal.! It's hilarious really. I can forgive the Yanks ,but we helped shape this damn country. Don't you get tired of hearing about cotton mills when we had mines, quarries steelworks, glassworks ,jewellery, leather works, chain makers, nail makers, brickmakers, potteries. ..... All treated like shit and forgotten now. We aren't as scenic as cotton mills.

I know what he means about London. I moved down to London 15 years ago, from West Bromwich (after spending my whole life in The BC) and some of the conversations I had back then were surreal. First, most insisted on calling me a Brummie. As true Black Country folks will know, nothing winds a yam yam up quicker than being called a Brummie. Two memorable conversations involved me explaining I was from The BC and she though I meant Africa. Another asked me if it was called The Black Country because there were a lot of immigrants living there.

As the son of a Black Country lad living in America it's really awkward when people ask where my dad's from and i proudly say "The Black Country!" And people look at this white guy with absolute shock and horror. And when i tell them its not racist at all they say "Well if it's real does it have a flag or something"? And i just say let's not go down that path please it's awkward enough lol

This video is sad because its not commonly known that the Midlands pay the overwhelming majority of the BBC licence fee but get nothing back. The BBC don't even have a tv studio here anymore, just a cupboard in a shopping centre (the mailbox) to record the local news. When he describes game of thrones and not seeing anyone from the midlands, it because the BBC takes our money and sends it down to London or up to Manchester. You can save yourself £150 per year (if you don't watch BBC, and tbh I don't know anyone under 50 who does), just by watching your tv shows on catch up! Horrible organization, the sooner they go subscription the better
