If anything, that should really be the default assumption-that used car dealers are “sketchy” by definition. Sure, there may be good guys here and there, but most are there to make money within what’s legal (but not necessarily ethical). That’s why we need to know what as-is sales entail and be smart about guys like this defendant, that would put some lipstick on a junk car and sell it “as is,” claiming that it is a good car. There is nothing illegal about this unethical practice.

I hate that question! Like seriously, a mechanic is gonna try to take advantage of *anyone* who doesn't know anything about cars regardless of gender. I also hate the women who say "women, because we don't know about cars." Seriously, ladies, we are just as capable of learning about cars as men, stop using that as an excuse!
@Childfree3343 жыл бұрын
@@Pepper9873 You do understand that women are socialized differently than men, right? Your average person is capable of learning anything regardless of gender, but expectations are that women do not know anything about cars and most of us don't. Our socialization, which is very difficult to deviate from for most, is about domesticity, subservience, family, caretaking, and nurturing. I have yet to see a little girl given toy cars or encouraged to take wood shop or mechanics. I'm sure there are some who do, but it's not the norm. So Harvey's question is perfectly legit. Mechanics do tend to take more advantage of women because of they expect most know nothing, which is true. When I need something done with my car, I always have a man (brother, friends) take it to the shop for me. I would be wasting my time trying to understand mechanical jargon because I just have no interest and don't care.
@Pepper98733 жыл бұрын
@@Childfree334 Again, that's using your gender as an excuse. I live with my mom and sister, my closest male relatives live in completely different states, so if I need something done with my car, I'm the one who makes sure that I'm not being taken advantage of. Just because women are socialized differently doesn't mean they can't learn about cars or that they shouldn't. We live in an age where information is literally at your fingertips and a two second search will give you an answer. The question only highlights how many women still allow their perceived inequality to control their lives.
