An ambassador for the World Cup in Qatar has described homosexuality as "damage in the mind".
Two weeks before the football tournament begins in the Gulf state, former Qatari footballer Khalid Salman told a German public broadcaster being gay is "haram", or forbidden in Arabic.

Allowing homosexual marriages in Qatar was not a prerequisite for hosting this tournament. Don't hold out for my grandma to change her views. The stadiums and all facilities needed to host the games are ready. Hosting the WC was a catalyst to reform labour laws. I long waited that but only hosting WC override the resistance by the big business construction lobby in Qatar. The entire system was overhauled. So they are allowed to allow slavery? Hundreds of migrant construction workers from South Asia died due to terrible working condition while building the world cup structures. It is a common occurrence for employers to confiscate the passport of foreign laborers and maids and make them work over time while making them live in horribly overcrowded living conditions and not pay them for months on end and leave them helpless. They have no respect for the people that built their cities. I've lived in the Middle East and the locals are extremely racist and make fun of people of other religions and for being darker skin tones.

He is 100% entitled to an opinion, the media has targeted him as they have previously known what his response is going to be prior to the interview even taking place. He has an opinion, that is his opinion and he has every right to have that opinion. English is not his first language, such is clear in the interview and if the question had been asked in Arabic, the interviewer would have a response which was not deemed so harsh, he explained it in his way. Think its time to start focusing on football and stop these silly attacks continuously on Qatar.

Allowing homosexual marriages in Qatar was not a prerequisite for hosting this tournament. Don't hold out for my grandma to change her views. The stadiums and all facilities needed to host the games are ready. Hosting the WC was a catalyst to reform labour laws. I long waited that but only hosting WC override the resistance by the big business construction lobby in Qatar. The entire system was overhauled. I love that. 👉 Some people (specially North Europeans, Germans, Brits, Dutch...etc) harbour hate toward raising nations. We are not in 1950s anymore. We couldn't care less about your opinions.
