0:00 - Intro & Why I Love Squad
9:00 - Toxicity
13:40 - Why I Love Squad Part Two
NOTES:
-You may notice some jumps/stutters in the footage. Unfortunately, I had a lot of trouble recording and I don’t exactly know why. The problem was inconsistent but happened a lot. Some of the footage, though, was too demonstrative/useful not to use, so I used it anyway. Hopefully it’s not too noticeable
-I think damage can impact stamina/accuracy, but it’s kind of hard to tell sometimes. The wiki says this, and Squad’s official website points to the wiki as a guide. So it’s possible the way I wrote the line is misleading, but as far as I can tell it’s not.
-I said that, if you want to talk to someone outside your Squad and outside local voice range, you have to speak via squad leaders. This is technically incorrect, as Squad has a text chat (like many other games). But the chat can be hard to notice and it’s inefficient, so I don’t think it’s a viable way to handle team communication during a game.

I agree with you on the Superhab. At least as a go to strategy. I have only seen it work when the decision to build one is made after the team has a basic idea of what the enemy is doing. You never want to build one when the enemy is being passive and is trying to bleed your tickets, and it's most effective when the enemy is being recklessly aggressive and your team collectively understands that the plan is to fight a screening and delaying action to give time to build it.

Actually appreciate the fact you address squads biggest elephant in the room. The community pretends its not there, but that's not surprising since its base is edgelord veterans, or wannabe military players. Good review, Subbed.

I haven’t played a lot of squad, but I’ve been playing Project Reality(the original squad basically) and everything you talked about I can relate to. I played a game just recently where the awkward phase happened, so I made a squad and guys started joining. I had no idea what I was doing. Trying to learn, while trying to make sure your guys have fun is challenging. When people lash out at each other it does make it kind of stressful to play as a SL. Sometimes the players need to chill out. :)

super fobs are a relic of alpha. Before command arty there wasn't a good response to them besides setting up multiple mortar fobs and shelling the shit outta them. That required (often not always) multiple squads coordinating on much smaller maps in order to make sure the tubes were in range. Building a castle with randoms, shooting the shit while you erect a castle while your team is slaughtered point after point was great. It was such a great time and worked often enough that some sls would plan on going to the last point and build them before the match even started, instead of when it turned into a roll. Fighting and defending them was intense and really honed the cqc elements of the game. Now we can erase one every 40 minutes.

This problem is easily remedied by decent admins. Also it's just part of taking on a leadership role. If things go well you're the hero, if things don't go well it's all your fault. Just like in real life. I think Squad is actually a good exercise in assuming a leadership position and dealing with people, good and bad.

The same problem you mentioned about squad leaders and bad games affects Post Scriptum in the same way, although I think PS might be less toxic due to the smaller playerbase. That being said, even though I've played PS for 800 hours, I haven't touched Squad. On another note, I don't know if you take recommendations but I would be interested in hearing your take about the failure of Beyond the Wire, seeing as that the playerbase is essentially zero. It's a "cousin" of Squad's but plays much more like it's attempting to emulate the pace of Red Orchestra 2 with strange weapon balancing.

Beyond the wire Have with hell let lose, a Game thats easey to Play, but WW2 settings Same, time to kill Same, better grafics. Have 1500 h Squad Play and only 5 h in ps. Because i Like the New 2000 years settings more. And optics in Wappen,

There isn't a toxicity problem. The examples you're bringing up are just learning pains and you might as well grow thick skin if you want to squad lead. The main issue is the difficulty of bringing logistics around different points of the map, driving is terrible in Squad and helis have only sped up the variety of spawns and strategies available to prove to you that it's a logistics issue. Depending on how your team is in setting up the initial frontline, that dictates whether or not you have a good game or not. Squad 3/4 highlighted games and moments that outweigh the 6/7 bad games you go through. If the game naturally funneled resources forward to your FOBs automatically, then the 2/3 logistic trucks you start out with wouldn't be a limiting factor on making pushes more varied and limit the frustration of having to rebuild from a prior point.

Squad for sure has a toxicity problem. And the fact you chose to start your response with "grow thick skin" proves his point. The irony is you yourself made a very good point on a genuine issue with squad, but you just couldn't help but add the toxic insult could you?

@@sdrawkcabBdaeR If you are playing a role that has significant impact on the playing experience of the 8 others in your squad and the 41 other in your team, you should expect to face criticism is you play poorly. There are limited resources and time pressures and high costs to failures, how can you expect to not expect to hear about your failures if you choose to play important roles. If you're playing as a squad lead, you already have 4/5 people in your ear, you need to just toughen up. If you mess up, and people call out out on it, then it's on you. There are roles that are stress-free that players can pick up if they don't want to deal with the outlined 'toxicity'. You need to accept that people's 'toxicity' is not an issue of the playerbase but instead is directly related to players having to deal with the outcome of poor decisions that you have committed them to. No one is here to coddle you for your failings.

its not toxic, you just "have to" grow a thick skin from what? the toxicity? Some way someone has to learn to play. They learn by losing and facing those failures.
