I just carry a spool of 10lb test line. If you know what you are doing, and you should, you can craft the rest of your fishing gear right there on the spot. Make sure you collect up all the shavings which would be tinder for the next fire. The trick to being sneaky is to leave no trace.

I’m truly enjoying the stealth series you are currently working on. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started watching but I’m glad I did! When my kids were still at home we created/used our own variation of hobo symbols to communicate during an emergency. Rally points, family friends, supplies. We still use it as a fun inside joke and have plans for including grandkids when the time is right

As a young boy I spent MANY hours in the woods, hunting, fishing & trapping. I had to deal with older bullies. It didn't take me long to learn many of the techniques you have presented. Living in the NE I had to learn how to maneuver through the snow and I quickly learned that leaving my tracks in the snow can work to my benefit. many times I les people to areas they wished they had never traveled. Getting soaked and wet in 20° degree weather after dark will make someone think twice about following your tracks the next time. I know you're not a snow dweller but l would love to hear your thoughts about that.

Great video! I used so many varieties of a hobo reel because they are so much fun. I started to using telescoping fishing pods around 2000, but I keep going back to having a small handreel in my vehicle pack just incase I happen around a place that I could fish. Never underestimate 30 mins of fishing to our mental health. When I was dispatched to locations, I would pull the truck over and go fishing and eating my lunch on many of lakes in the Midwest. Catch/Release since my wife complained one day that she was sick of eating fish for dinner/breakfast LOL

Hi Blackie. I was thinking about making one of your Hobo Fishing Kits today and went to my youtube history to find it. I searched and could not find it, until I searched "sneaky" thinking it would get me to your channel, then I could browse your videos, ha ha....luckily the fishing kit was visible in the video's title image because this wonderful kit does not have its own video. Thanks for the fun project idea!

Hey Blackie great video as always. I was using some stealth tonight in a positive way and your tips popped into my head when I needed them. Knowledge is power. Like I said, tonight I had to use some of these stealth techniques for myself and in no way did I cause any harm. Thats what is so great about these teachings thank you. I had a thought tonight as well. Could you do a video on scenarios of when you come into a confrontation with another individual. Maybe you made a mistake along the way and you get "discovered". Maybe what to say, what to do...I know you have touched on it before but it may be something people want to see. Again thanks for doing what you do.

I like your budget friendly options. That fishing reel looks a lot better than the one I made when I was younger. I can guarantee it works better. You mentioned people setting up fishing hook traps. I have heard of these. Supposedly there was someone in my area who was having political signs stolen from their property. So they put treble hooks inside the flap part and tied to a long piece of line that was anchored. When someone ran up and grabbed their sign the hooks imbedded deeply in their hands when the like got tight. Their signs were not touched after that. I don't think there were any consequences for the sign owner.

Great refresher Blackie but I kind of have mixed emotions about everyone knowing our southern tricks. It is really interesting how these same tactics are used not only in south Louisiana but also in Alabama. I learned many of these at a very young age from my uncle that was in the Korean War and grew up in the swamps like me. Yes we used these tactics for "fishing" also. LOL

Bruh us Californians don't have mountain men who live in the Rockies or los padres and served in Korea/Vietnam.... No way us westcoasters should know any of this stuff. Most these things he's showing are the same hobo tricks we learn out here on the Westcoast. Hobo reel is interesting never seen one. Yoyo reel never seen one cause I don't fly fish. Course then again I don't go poach\fishin on private property so never even crosse my mind I would need to hide a pole. But I like to stealth camp when ever I go backpacking cause well.. I don't need some son of Sam picking up my trail and bushwhacking me while I sleep, so it is good for me to always see what knowledge is out there and see if I can pick up something new. The stealth camping stuff is Westcoast hobo/vietvet/korvet common knowledge nothing unique to eastcoast mountain folk. U can literally buy books for SERE.. He doin the lord's work keeping the knowledge alive and circulating.

Very interesting. Love the hobo reel. I live in Tanja Forest south eastern Australia. I rarely see anyone in the forests except an occasional bike rider or confused lost soul lol. especially off trail. It is near impossible to move stealthily here as the ground is deeply littered in dry leaves and sticks. Happy fishing 🐟🐠🐟🦘

Blackie, I’m not seeing how you bring the line out to wrap around the can prior to a cast. You didn’t include that step. I’m guessing that the far end is tied off around the wooden handle, down inside the can. T’other end is pulled out 20’-30’, and then the plastic lid is snapped on, them the line is wrapped around the can, hook tied on and baited. I suppose the lanyard goes around your wrist so that 3 foot lunker can’t yank it out of your hands? Courtesy of Half Vast Flying .

For your rods when you blow out a pair of jeans cut the legs off and sew up the skinny end to make a long sack. Throw a little tape on your hooks then shove your rod in and no snags. Also works as a cheap gun sock.
