Examples and options to mark a command post at an emergency scene - WHELEN/ Blue Lights Berlin

Whelen is offering a whole lineup of options to mark the command post/s at emergency scenes. In this video we'll be showing a few selected examples. More information and details in the description.
In advance:
You can fully program Whelen lightbars via WeCan (note that non-WeCan lightbars cannot be upgraded to WeCan lightbars). WeCan allows for endless programming and tons of flash patterns and functions. Further Whelen systems like the HHS4200, Carbide, Core, etc. allow for even more programming and even more useful and safe options.
For the European market: The Legacy lightbar has the R10 and R65 certifications. It can also be customized entirely.
0:08 1.1 Slow flash patterns.
Those are not just a useful and safe feature for emergency scenes in general but they can also make command posts stick out a bit more. We set it our pattern to CA single flash 60 (the slowest standard pattern) but it is possible to create even slower patterns.
0:18 1.2 Slow flash patterns combined with cruise light.
Cruise light is basically a dimmed light and you can set its intensity. The main purpose is to mark emergency vehicles without bright or flashing lights and without the illusion that they're responding to a call.
Please note: Most cameras have problems to capture steady burn LED's. In videos they appear flickering or flashing even though they're just on/ steady burning in reality.
0:27 1.3 (slow) dual color flash patterns.
Whelen sets no limits in regards to the use of different colors. Many emergency services in Germany nowadays want blue lights (as they're the only legal emergency light color) as well as amber for rear warning. Both can be used to mark command posts too.
Whelen lightbars are available with duo and even trio color modules. Duo color flashers are also available.
0:36 2.1 Red modules in the lightbar.
In Germany red can only be used to mark parked command posts at emergency scenes. With Whelen you can customize your Whelen lightbar with various red modules, no matter how many or where. Upgrading Whelen lightbars with other modules is also possible.
We equipped our demo unit with the short red modules and placed them in the center. These short modules can also be installed where the alley lights are.
0:46 2.2 Red modules, steady burn blue.
Definitely an option that cannot be missed at an emergency scene, at least not in Germany. Steady burn means that the light is permanently on with its full intensity. As all the other flash patterns, this can also be set in the programming options.
0:53 2.3 different colored modules; steady burn blue.
Some customers just like a classic lightbar with alley lights at the sides and amber modules in the rear. Those can be combined with e.g. red modules in the front. Synchronize those modules and the command post is nicely marked as well.
1:26 2.4 Red modules, steady flash and activated scene lighting/ takedowns.
This is a combination of multiple things that can be activated and controlled independently. All blue modules are set to steady flash - a flash pattern which is just like steady burn. The only difference: it's shortly flashing every 3 seconds. Additionally we also activated the takedowns - as very bright spot scene lighting to the front. The red modules stand out better as soon as you look at them from a slight side angle again. Installing those a bit further away from the takedowns makes them stand out even more.
1:41 3.1 Beacons.
It doesn't matter if they're mounted on the roof or the lightbar or if they're just placed there by hand. Using beacons to mark command posts is a popular option in Germany. Whelen provides the L41 which is a cheap and multifunctional option. In fact, the L41 is even cheaper than the most common beacons in Germany and it also comes with Whelen's standard 5-year warranty on all lights.
The L41 comes with multiple mounting options as well as temporary magnet- and vacuum mounts. Connecting it to via a cigarette plug is also possible. The L41 offers different flash patterns and a memory function.
Whelen also offers the L32 which is a flat beacon and the L31 - which is probably the brightest beacon available simply because it houses proper LED modules like you would find in lightbars.
2:14 3.2 Beacons and option 2.4.
Two options - combined or compared? If you just want a simple or a single color lightbar, there is the option to combine e.g. steady burn or steady flash patterns with an additional beacon. This can be an effective and cost efficient option without any legal issues. Regulations are tough in numerous countries and sometimes you need to be creative.

Ich liebe diese Muster und die Lightbar an sich, hoffentlich wird man sie dann an Einsatzfahrzeugen öfters sehen.

hoffentlich ja. Zumal der Whelen Legacy um ein vielfaches heller ist, als hier die angebotenen Lichtbalken von diversen deutschen Herstellern. Vom Funktionsumfang mal angesehen, der durch die WeCan Programmierung unzählige Sachen zulässt.

Es gibt ja auch ein System welches die Lichtsignale von 2 oder mehreren Fahrzeugen synchronisiert, sieht geil aus wenn die Signalbalken etc. Synchronisiert sind. müsste glaub ich auch von Whelen kommen das System.

Das ist die V2V Option bei der Whelen Core - ein programmierbares System für die komplette Licht- und Signaltechnik am Fahrzeug - also Blaulicht, Umfeldbeleuchtung und Sirenen. Und ja, da hat Whelen definitiv wieder einmal die Messlatte höher gesteckt. Primär ist die fahrzeugübergreifende Synchronisierung für Einsatzort gedacht, damit vorbeifahrende Autofahrer schneller einen besseren Überblick erhalten und um somit Kollisionen zu vermeiden. Personen und Einsatzkräfte fallen dadurch auch eher auf.

Die Kennleuchten überzeugen mich überhaupt nicht...

Finde ich tatsächlich auch in echt nicht so überzeugend. Da sollte man zu deutschen Herstellern greifen, ist jedoch nur meine Meinung. Der Balken hingegen ist ganz annehmbar, Blitzmuster halt whelentypisch, dennoch viel machbar. Hell sind die Balken allemal!
