It is extremely painful to hear about the man who hung himself. However, the culture shock of being brought from rural Ethiopia to Israel must have been extreme. His daughter said he had been a “dignified” person, but likely none of his skills were very valuable in Israel and that would be a catastrophic blow to anyone’s self confidence and dignity. It is simple human nature. More should probably have been done to help people like him, but in reality some people would have been crushed in the initial generation of immigrants no matter how much help was offered. It is why some immigrants return to their countries-the change is too great and the personal price too high. In the case of Ethiopian Jews, there really wasn’t, and still isn’t, a country to return to. The sentiments here coming from lovely people in Ethiopia are heartwarming. However, Ethiopian Jews didn’t leave because they were showered in love. They were oppressed for centuries by Ethiopian Christians to the extent that many felt the need to convert. This is part of what is creating muddying matters over whether Israel has truly taken in the entire Jewish community or if more remain.

Like I said, most Jewish people are not racist and calling an innocent person guilty is just as bad as the crime itself. When a person is self conscious because they have experienced or heard someone experiencing discrimination, they will interpret a lot of innocent things as discriminatory. Like I said, I have been on both sides, and I learned to give benefit of a doubt. You will understand this, when someone accuses you of racism, when you have none of it in your heart. Now, you said that it is a reality that Ethiopian Jews face discrimination in Israel, maybe it is true, but there is so many lies going around about what’s happening in Israel that unless you live there, you don’t have a clue what the reality is there. And we are talking about a nation of millions of people. Even if you lived there, it would be hard to know. To give you a countering example, I personally know a black Jewish person from America who moved to Israel and finds Israel less racist than America.

Levant was much lighter before the Islamic invasion, where Arabs raped African slaves. The Levant is not Arabia. The notion of a middle east "color" is from Islam. Jews, Nazarene Christians from Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, etc., Samaritans and Druze are related on different branches of the same close family tree, Arabs are not there.
