I remember turning on the TV in my bedroom as a kid, watching this performance, and wondering what the hell was that pirate was playing. Roy blew my mind at 8, and still blows my mind now. Saw the brothers at Catalina a few years back. Always great!

I wish I knew these guys when I was 8! First heard them in high school. Actually met Jeff Coffins when he came to do a master class at my school.

One night in the 90s I was flipping through the TV channels and landed on BET Jazz. They were getting setup and just about to start so I figured I would hang around and watch the show. Bela obviously had his banjo but there was a stand in front of him with a guitar on it so I figured at some point during the performance he was going to put down the banjo and play the guitar. Nope. He played the banjo and the guitar at the same time. I was so amazed at these guys, I put in a tape and recorded the rest of the show. Next day I brought it to a musician friend and he was floored. We ended up showing it to everyone we knew. I've never been so impressed with a band as much as I was, and still am, impressed with these guys. Every member of the band is special.

Dave Matthews Band is mentioned at the beginning. Jeff Coffin played with both bands(DMB and the Flecktones, but years later. What a coincidence.

They are touring now with founding member Howard Levy. Saw them August 13 with Bruce Hornsby. It was a great show.

My seat is in the balcony. I forget which section number. If you were onstage looking out into the auditorium, then my seat is in the balcony and two sections left of dead center. I can't wait. I've been listening to all my Flecktones cd's. I'm going with my brother who isn't as into them as I am, but I think that'll change after he sees them live. Have fun!!

Roy "Futureman" Wooten, Victor Wooten's brother. If you find some videos of these guys from within the past year or two you can see the sleek, new Drumitar that he had built. It's snazzy.

@1016vortex I have tickets to see them in Nashville in April & I cannot wait! I'm going with my brother. He knows who they are & he's heard a lot of their songs but he doesn't really 'know' their music so I keep telling him how he's in store for a once in a lifetime show. I saw them once back in '93 so I know a little bit of what's in store for us. Nashville is the Wooten bro's hometown so I'm hoping it'll be even more special. The show is at the famous Ryman Auditorium!

Sorry, but the concert in Nashville was back in the spring of 2012. They were at the Ryman Auditorium, classic venue. Hopefully they'll be back around. If I'm not mistaken, one of them lives in Nashville. Victor perhaps?

These guys never sounded quite right with a saxophone (especially a soprano one). I guess it was just too typical a jazz instrument for a band as unique as this. So glad Levy is back.

Well they incorporated Jeff Coffin for years when Levy left. Jeff is on several of their albums. But I'm glad Levy is back too. I saw them during their first tour as the reunited original lineup and it blew my mind. Edit: I misread your first sentence. I actually like some of the stuff Jeff did with them but yeah hard to beat the original fab four.
