Thanks Scott! You're a terrific storyteller as well as a great historian of Hollywood. Always enjoy your videos and your podcasts. Please keep up the terrific work - can't wait until your tours are back on track - btw, saw you briefly in an episode of Ghost Adventurers when they did the Hollywood Sign and the VFW. I'm sure you kept them regaled with stories that didn't make the cut.

I only recently learned of the Lava Lady, inadvertently solving a 23 year old mystery. In 1997, I was a red light at La Brea and Fountain. There was a peculiar individual crossing the street. It looked like that she was on stilts, but I couldn't see her feet due to some long bell-bottomed trousers. On her head was a weird pointy hat or something. I was like "what the hell is THAT??" Being new to Hollyweird, I chalked it up to some local weirdo or somebody practicing some weird religion that I was unaware of..but it turns out it was the LAVA LADY!! I used to see Dennis Woodruff's various cars parked in Hollywood too!! He had a 70s Honda Civic with a big plastic head affixed to the roof. And, of course, Angelyne's pink Corvette

The treasure trove of Hollywood history and tidbits is amazing. People live there all their lives and have no idea just how much history they drive past every day. Love these videos Scott, thank you!

The lava lady moved to Wellington Florida where I lived... I used to see her all over West Palm Beach and I actually chatted with her many times although she dressed rather bizarre she was quite shy and was a lovely person.. the main place I used to see her was the Goodwill in Royal Palm Beach💜

I bet Bela Lugosi's immense paintings and furniture was from when he owned a larger house and reminded him of his past glories....Cheaper to keep it than buy new and Very "Sunset Boulevard" when you think of it...

Great video! If you Google street view the Lava Lady's old house. Go down the alleyway that runs parallel to it. Just at the end of the property line you'll see a fence--still with the lava rock covering! Right next to a small garage. So a little bit of the Lava Lady lives on!

The Lava Lady sounds like a very eccentric woman. I miss people like her. Never cared for anyone else’s trends, just being who she wants to be. However did she manage to wear 13 inch heels everyday in her old age? I take my hat off to her, I couldn’t do it now at half her age. RIP Lava Lady

In the mid-'80's, I attended Columbia College- Hollywood at 925 N La Brea Ave. We were sandwiched in between KCOP Channel 13 building on the corner, and the Redd Foxx building on our north side. We could see into the back parking lot of the Fox building at the back of the college. There was a truck trailer parked there with a faded drawing of Redd Foxx' head, and it advertised some kind of hair care products he had. It never moved in the entire three years I went there.

The house is for sale -- $1,999,999... 3 bed.. 3 bath.. 2,600sqft..on a 6240 sqft lot.. Nothing special inside. Kinda 70's style... The house is empty inside according to the listing photos. The house sold for $1.6M in 2018. It was built in 1948.
There used to be a lady around Los Feliz I'd see all the time that only wore Purple Clothes. We called her the Purple Lady.

They're all gone now. All the characters who were their own attractions from Nyc to Philly to Chicago to LA.. quirky characters. When there were funky neighborhoods still. That all ended in the mid 00s. The Real Estate boom killed all those bohemian, funky, eclectic neighborhoods and shops. Replaced with Starbucks, banks, T-Mobile stores, etc. We had sooo many characters on our famous street.. they all disappeared after being there from the late 70s to mid 00s.. I hate that. Times Square lost all of its character and Character(S)
