I am an American who visited Vitebsk in Sept. 2014. The people are very friendly and hospitable. Much of Belarus is unspoiled forest with considerable agricultural activity. The feeling I got was the country experiences very little tourism. Not once while walking alone even at night did I feel unsafe. One can get a good meal for about $6 U.S.D. Absolutely charming place that I plan on revisiting come spring....

I agree that it's very unspoilt. It is however run by an autocrat who makes life for the independently minded very hard.

Yes by Western standards you could even call Lukashenko a dictator. Despite this he has considerable support among some in Belarus. It is hard to judge people who have always lived under one form of oppression or another. I have the feeling that many would be hesitant of any type of change. Rather conservative people IMHO.

Entry is a little troublesome perhaps but worth it IMHO. I would like to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg but will wait for East-West relations to thaw first. Russian and Belarus currencies took a real hit. Many blame the west and it's sanctions.

Hi , thanks for posting this video. It`s interesting to see how folks view life in some parts of Belarus. When I was thinking of moving to Minsk about 1.5 years ago, I was looking for such videos online. Now, I live here and enjoy it. Part of the reason is that I earn enough money to avoid the usual stress people feel with the worsening economy. They live by exchanging currencies and finding ways to save. Still, it is stable, calm and safe overall. People don`t bat an eye when there are cops around, and the cops are pretty low-key. Very, very few traffic stops or pat-downs that` I have seen. The city is kept extraordinarily clean. I just got back from a trip to Paris and Vienna, and though I love those cities, I can`t understand how they can allow them to be so filthy - Parisian metro stations are a disaster. Here, it wouldn`t be tolerated. By the way, I am American.

My father grew up in Belarus, ( I think), he identified as Polish, when I used to ask where, he replied " Wilna ". An ID paper I have of his, states his birthplace as Druja. I would love to visit, and see where he came from, I know very little because he didn't speak much about it, I think it was obviously painful for him, since he was taken away by the Russians to a work camp, never to see his family again. I see on a comment here, a Belarus national drink is Zabrouka, I think we were given a taste as children at Christmas time, I believe it was a cherry brandy, I was probably only about ten at the time !

Aleksandrs Krūze So why does your PM consider Russians her enemy & sides with the Ukrop nazis?
@aleksandrskruze65995 жыл бұрын
@@yurilemming4130 Because we hate Russians, we always did and always will. Belarusians and their culture are different from Russians, that's a fact and we know it. Lukashenko is trying to make Belarus more Russified though. If this continues, then there will be nothing of Belarus left, it will be practicality a part of Russia.
@yurilemming41305 жыл бұрын
Aleksandrs Krūze My mother came from a village 40km from Russian border, the people on the other side were exactly the same yet Latvians seem to have a genetic hate gene, thank you for explaining that so Russians have to be prepared to finish Latvians as they can never be good neighbours.
@aleksandrskruze65995 жыл бұрын
@@yurilemming4130 Russians are also very hateful. They always have been. Just look at the war footage in Ukraine, the way the Russian treat the Ukrainians. Or look at old footage from the chechen wars. Russians were always hateful, so don't blame this on us.
@yurilemming41305 жыл бұрын
Aleksandrs Krūze If Russians were hateful Germany, latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania would not exist, no one would be alive, who invaded Russia & caused 28 million deaths for no reason yet there was no repercussion. the hate is entirely you & your zionazi western pigs I defy you to show one example of Russians being hateful or threatening anyone. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
