Romain Axisa was on guitar … just like he was in the MG1 video. I’m sure having Romain on stage with him made Ren feel anchored. I know it helped Ren a lot during his Secret Garden Party set. It was nice that the UK broadcast didn’t censor his language. But I loved how Ren really emphasized certain lyrics for effect 😼 The song fit in with some of the overall themes of the award show … there was a focus on political advocacy in support of the arts. But Ren’s performance really stood out. I’m sure it caught some people’s attention. I’m just so happy to see him be able to start doing live performances! Hopefully his health will continue to improve, so he can do more live shows

This performance was brilliant. I think it went incredibly well, especially given the fact it was Ren’s first ever TV performance and he was doing it live. Ren was obviously nervous in the beginning, but he nailed it. So amazingly proud of him. The theme of the Money Game II track went so well with the overall theme of this year’s awards. As well as being a major arts awards ceremony, the theme was to launch a ten point Arts Manifesto released to try to force the UK government to protect the arts and arts creators. So the song definitely would have helped make that point. The Sky Arts Awards are one of the major arts awards in the UK and the only awards internationally to focus on all of the major areas of the arts (comedy, opera, film, theatre, classical music, popular music painting, dance, literature, poetry, visual arts). So this performance was a big deal and a major launch pad UK wide for Ren. Btw the guitar player was Romain Axisa.

In case you didnt know, "She Sells Seashells on the Seashore" is a well known tongue twister in the UK. The full rhyme is: She sells seashells on the seashore and the shells she sells are seashore shells.

Loved the performance -so animated and true to Ren! It had been 5 years since he did a solo show, but he was performing with The Big Push until Sept (or Oct?) of '22. Still it was close to two years and he just jumped in the deep end at the The Secret Garden festival, doing songs he hadn't performed live before, and making new arrangements for many of them. And then does this- his first performance on TV.

It is, though the confidence in performing in front of people who are there because they love you and what you do, might not be so easily found performing MG2 in front of a celeb audience and millions behind the camera. What a boy! ❤

To me, his performance felt lower energy than usual for Ren; perhaps more constrained by the setting and having to work within those parameters. And he recovered immediately from the wee missteps which shows his ability as a performer. This was a brave selection of songs to perform in this setting. He's speaking truth to power!

I think Ren feeds a lot off the energy of his audience. This one had to be a bit strange, as this crowd probably wasn’t very familiar - if at all - with REN’s music. This was a very bold choice for this performance. The guitar player was Romaine, who joined Ren for this occasion. Ren has said he’d love to get the band together again. Problem is, Gorman is touring, and Glenn is in Australia.

I think you figured out what seemed a bit odd to me; the crowd was not into it, and Ren was presenting information that some of the wealthy attendees weren't prepared to embrace. I also feel that with the hat covering his eyes, there was less of the direct link one can form with a performer.
