Peter Butterworth was my fave Carry on star. Loved this
@Edward1312 Жыл бұрын
This is incredible, amazing, never knew Butterworth was a (WAFU) fleet air arm pilot, had been shot down in action and that he had attempted an escape from Stalag luft 1 and had been at Stalag Luft 3 (the famous great escape camp)! What a fantastic old school (golden age) generation these guys all came from, with their still upper lips amazing daring do stories (told in a matter of fact, self-depreciating and nonchalant style) and humble modesty when you consider they were responsible for overcoming the worse tyranny the World has ever experienced.
@LizzieWhiz10 ай бұрын
Throughout his time as a POW he sent back to his family coded letters giving information. Peter stayed behind in Stalag-3 instead of escaping so he could keep sending back information to the UK via his letters.

My one abiding memory of Peter Butterworth was watching him perform a comic monologue on BBC tv childrens hour in the 1950s while fruitlessly waiting for a kettle to boil so that he could have cup of tea.The trouble was he had put the kettle to boil over a single candle which was woefully insufficient!

He died suddenly in the late 1970s of a heart attack it's very tragic actors work hard during there working lives but they suffer from heart trouble because their hearts can't cope with the strain. Peter sellers is another comedy actor who suffered heart trouble. He died of a heart attack at the young age of 54 much too early to pass on. L

There was an attempt in the 1990s by the makers of carry on movies. To bring it back. Carry on Columbus. It tanked at the box office. All the actors in were alternative comics. Bernard bresslaw was in it with Barbara windsor. And maybe fineella fielding. Barbara Windsor didn't like the film. And didn't think it was all that funny. She hasn't made another film since. But her financial situation wasn't great at that time either.
