Big step forward! This ship would be cheaper to build and maintain, due to no more necessity to have non magnetic hull, superstructure, systems, and low noise propulsion, etc. The Tripartite was a GRP hull, and its construction, employed lots of ”exotic” non magnetic materials. However, some countries like mine which postpones the MCM program upgrade for almost a quarter of a century, should weigh carefully the possibility to acquire the Tripartites that Belgium and Netherlands are replacing. These minehunters seem to last forever, are reliable, and for a bargain price could replace our 30 - 40 years old totally inefficient minesweepers, and have them in service for another couple of decades.
@marcusfranconium3392

True the tripartite are verry durable i spend one year on one of them . as last posting . But they are not just belgian but also french . Tripartite ( three parties ) several already have been sold to bulgaria , latvia , pakistan . even some where sold to france . The dutch navy even offered 2 to ukrain in 2025 after the war to help them clearing mines . THe hulls are extremly durable as they used the same polyester as the dutch pilot tenders build in the 60s and they are still running around . Personaly i would love to own one of these mine hunters stripped from their miltary equipment you can make a fine yacht out of them . as they are a lot bigger on the inside than one might expect.

@@1zanglang Its a shame as these ships are made to be stored for prolonged periods of time . In the netherlands we had 15 back in the 90s most where preserved or in maintenance . and pulled out when needed . Hopefully when the EU will have more integration of military cooperation like the Belgians and dutch have . it would make things much easier and cheaper to maintain . And train the crews . i dont know how good the relations between romania and bulgaria or greece are but cooperation could be a good thing . with the navy stuff.

The belgians dutch and french have been cooperating with the Mine hunters since the 70s . France already have expressed interest in joining the program . The belgians are quite experts in mine hunting school and the MOST is situated in Oostende. To gether with the Dutch and French they had tons of experience The mother ship project actualy started back in the early 90s . And the dutch tend to build their own systems Sewaco / Holland signaal ( now thales netherlands ) so there should be differences between the british and Benelux MCM s.

@@marcusfranconium3392 @alexis_ianf The Royal Navy and Marine Nationale have been working on a joint program to develop their mine counter measure uncrewed vessels and concepts. It is likely the French have/will buy similar equipment to British service to deliver capability. I don't know what ships the MN will purchase to replace their minehunters, but the Royal Navy intend to use a combination, continuing to use Hunt class MCMVs along with deployment from the shore, RFA auxiliaries and ships of opportunity. A major benefit of uncrewed mine warfare using remotely operated or autonomous vehicles, is you do not need a dedicated GRP hulled ship to do the work. A Frigate, Auxiliary, civilian ship or shore base all work as well.

@edsutherland8266
@edsutherland8266 Жыл бұрын
No, it’s strictly an MCM ship, designed to carry USVs and UUVs. It’s a large mothership, rather than the traditional GRP mine hunter concept. It’s similar in size to corvettes or small frigates, but other than size, it has no real similarities. Frigates and destroyers can carry MCM gear, especially the newer designs with flexible mission bays, but that’s strictly a secondary role.

@@JohnSmith-uy7sv the US navy wouldn't do it differently, hulls are meant to oxidize (rust) then they paint over the fully oxidized hull. the reason for this is that oxidation protects metals from further oxidation. this ship still needs the roof to get a layer of paint but afterwards it will be in line with what you'd expect to see

because shiphulls are allowed to oxidize before being painted, in this case the roof seems to be unfinished (probably waiting to install radar and so on, so it still needs to be painted but can't be painted yet. that being said the ship shouldn't be put to water until that is done as it will allow salt to actively corrode the ship instead.

Personally, I find that since she became defense minister, things have changed a lot. There are a lot more investments and military salaries have been increased. The only thing I blame her for is that she didn't cancel the purchase contract for the F 35s, which cost the taxpayer a fortune. We don't need such sophisticated planes, the Rafale was much more appropriate for our air force and our military budget. It's true that with a whip, she would be even sexier. 🤪
