(19 Dec 1960) The civil ceremony took place in the throne room of the royal palace in Brussels. Here, King Baudouin of the Belgians and Dona Fabiola de Mora Y Aragon took their place at a white marble table. Royal witnesses included Britain's Princess Margaret, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, Queen Elizabeth of the Belgians, the King's grandmother, King Leopold, Prince Albert, Prince Jean and Princess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg. The civil wedding was followed by a religious ceremony at the ancient Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudule, which was conducted by Cardinal van Roey. After Mass had been said, the King and his Queen left to return to the Palace, cheered by a vast crowd. And when King Baudouin and his bride appeared on the balcony, they cheered again and again.
