Belgium was founded 1836, before, it was a county ruled by the count of Flanders, who was a vassal of France and later of Holland ( antwerp was taken by Spain for a short while, not the whole country, and this is long before Belgium was created) The Hapburgers where not from spain, they are a branch of Carolingers from Suise and ostenreich who had no claims on any throne, but Flanders was rich, much richer than the French and English king, and so they put one of they’re poorer cousins on the throne of a new country called Belgium (Our King Boudewijn married an Iberian Lady, Fabiola of Arragon). We had one colony, during the time every european country was gobbling up colonies. Yes, some bad shit went on and that’s on the king and his government ( we, the people never got a say in it), but that happened in every colony around the globe. In short, DO THE RESEARCH son! There are 11 M people living in Belgium, how the hell are we going to have 37 M troops huh? Shall we talk about Brittish expansionism and the atrocities that went on there?

Indeed and might I add that the atrocities in the Congo were mainly due to islamic slave traders in the north-east of the Congo. Not saying that nothing bad happened but physical punishments were outlawed BY Leopold II. The English wanted the Congo to themselves and started the propaganda that is still being spread to this day. The most scientific estimates for the total population of the Congo during the "terror of Leopold II" was 7,4 million people...kinda hard to kill 10 million than isn't it? The red rubber and the saying that hands were chopped of because of not meeting rubber quotas were also taken out of context. Belgian officials working for Leopold II said that they were NOT going to chop of hands like the arab slave traders did in order to meet rubber quotas. Belgium is my country, and i have to say, we've done A LOT, even though we are small! Fun fact, when the germans wanted to start the war with france, they asked belgium if they could just pass through it to attack france more easily, but belgium said "no mate, you can't", so germany declared war against belgium, and it was one of the bloodiest for germany. We are small but we have a big ego!

its not about having a ego. its about germany and france having a war and battle on belgium grounds so belgium would of been caught in that battle and pay a big price by lives. it would of been the belgian building and ground that got shot into shit for a war thats not even our war. the battles would of been fought on the border between belgium and france so germany wouldnt of lost anything besides the army. their factories would still be fine and able to make more things in germany. also it would of made us be dragged into the war as france would think belgium joined up with germany. so its not about some ego but a diplomatic problem.
