Hi everyone! Welcome back to Belgrade! The deeper meaning of this video (the end part) is that full-time travel was always an analogy for a RELATIONSHIP - ie sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's toxic, dysfunctional, and a nightmare. That's why travel isn't always positive. The pizza in Chihuahua was a metaphor for an argument! Next up there will be some proper travel videos as I'm now settled properly! I remember when I left my hometown as a younger person. I thought I would be back. I only moved to another city, but it was like another world. It was really a game changer for me at the time. I did make 2 or 3 visits over the next few years back home. Then I went for a long period of 20 years with no visits. Recently I have gone back to visit a bit more often as my parents are elderly and they have decided they can't "ungay" me !! Perhaps you are looking for a change from the nomadic life and it is often easy to revert back to the familiar. Give it some time and see where life takes you. I like your videos, especially the walk and talk. You are a good orator and you have an ability to carry on conversations with your audience. Very few do that well, but you do !

As someone with immigrant parents and an immigrant husband, it sounds like you are starting to experience that ‘shuffle,’ where as you said, ‘home’ was more a birthplace than the place you ‘belong’ to. I remember my husband always talking about going back to Brazil…finally after 8 years he returned. At first he was excited, but after a few weeks he was confused because he said it didn’t feel like ‘home’ anymore. I love traveling, learning about other countries and exploring other countries. Doing so has made me realize that my birthplace (USA) is just that…my birthplace. 🙃 Love your videos and Serbia looks very interesting, I like it. I may just have to take a trip out there! 👍
@svarogeuropeidentity43553 жыл бұрын
It is sad that people are becoming immigrants, we should live in our countries, we should build a better society in our countries, build paradise where you are at home and not benefit from the fame and efforts of other peoples. Immigration is ok, but if there is too much that there are more migrants than locals then the country loses quality of life, Switzerland is known, for example, thanks to the Swiss people, because of Swiss precision, not because they have massimmigration outside from Europe who live from social care whole life.

David, if you keep making “proper” travel videos I will certainly watch them. But not because I love those sorts of travel videos that feature people walking around taking quasi-shaky video while talking with some drone shots interspersed. I don’t. I find them visually unappealing as a general rule. I watch yours because of you. Your interesting (that’s good), intelligent (also good), funny (even better) and sarcastic (best of all). And your story of becoming disconnected from the country you were born in and of a search for “home” is compelling to me (the country I was born in has lost its fucking mind and may not survive it). My point is that, as far as I’m concerned, you should feel free to make more videos were you just find an interesting perch and talk to us. But that does mean its just you talking to an inanimate object that (I hope) is not talking back to you. Do you have people to have real conversations with? That’s important too.
@davidostrowski6793 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! The finding a home story seems to be endless! I find it difficult to even bother speaking to people in person, as I know I'll have to leave at some point. That's the main issue I guess. I like to think that once I have a home in the EU I can actually start getting a life again. Even in Mexico it was difficult for the same reason.

I'm also waiting for my confirmation of Polish citizenship. I've been in the process for well over a year now. Hello, David, from El Paso.... The trams are very cool, thanks for sharing that interest, and loved the children's parade.. Belgrade has an austerity and coldness that just doesn't appeal to me at all, there doesn't appear to be much charm, beauty, or enchantment there. The Eastern Soviet-block appearance is off-putting.
@davidostrowski6793 жыл бұрын
Oh there's plenty of charm amigo! I did a lot of videos in Belgrade back in 2019 and 2020 showing some more 'charming' areas. The ones I did this year were spots I didn't get around to doing last time. A bit like in Mexico this year, going to places like Torreón as I'd already filmed in the 'nice' places. The unintended theme of this year's videos is 'real life'! Hope all is well in El Paso! Assuming I still haven't had any news on Polish Citizenship by early next year I'll probably be in Mexico again March (but for a shorter time).

@@davidostrowski679 Its only in center of big cities(Zagreb,Split,Rijeka). Everywhere outside the largest cities, in smaller cities and suburbs of large cities, prices are even lower than in Belgrade. In Zagreb, you can rent an apartment in the city center for 250-300 euros a month, and the prices everywhere else are significantly lower. For example, Karlovac is a city on 4 rivers in the center of Croatia, from where you can visit most of Croatia in a few hours, and the prices are lower than in Zagreb. Karlovac is less than an hour's drive from Zagreb. If you look, you can find much cheaper accommodation. In any case, in most of Croatia the prices of accommodation are much cheaper than in Belgrade.
