I was very pregnant while my husband was finishing EMT school and his professor wanted to use me for training day. They had never had an actual pregnant woman for this day in the past and only ever used a fake belly. The scene I was apart of was supposed to be a car accident in which I miscarried the baby at the hospital. I suffered a massive panic attack thinking about it as I had suffered 2 miscarriages before getting pregnant with our son. My husband explained the situation to the instructors and they rewrote it to where I was badly injured but the baby was okay.

@@marvelastic112 it ended up being a lot of fun because there were actual resident doctors there practicing as well. No one was told before hand that I was actually pregnant so they were in for a big shock when they did the ultrasound and saw an actual 30 week baby moving around. There was one moment that I did cry thinking about my babies I lost but I’m doing well now. My son is a little over 2 and he is the best thing to ever happen to use

They did the same with Katey Sagal on Married With Children. Her pregnancy was written into the show but when she lost the baby, it was played off as a dream sequence. Her later pregnancies weren't written in, presumably out of respect/fear of the same happening again.

Since their characters werent, they disappeared from the scene for a while, after trying hiding their belly with big bags, large clothes and other ways. Then, there was the quote "whats the difference between peauntbutter and jam" which made lily disappear for a while. It was just a clever trick.

I don't think it would be able to be handled right, either there would be no joking and it would feel out of place. Believe it or not the hot dog challenge Lilly did in "How I met your mother" showed her real life pregnant belly as she jumped up beating her previous hot dog eating accomplishment. I don't think TBBT writers put her miscarriage into the show. Melissa's pregnancy in real life (that was carried to term) coincided with Bernadette's second pregnancy on the show. TBBT had no problems writing that in, according to Life & Style Magazine. I cannot find proof, however that they wrote the miscarriage pregnancy into TBBT. Bernadette being on bed rest was a precaution for Rauch since she had the history of a miscarriage, but I have seen no mention of the first one being influenced by real life circumstances

I learned from an old interview with Phylicia Rashad that they hid her pregnancy with big sweaters, posing her behind counters, or having her hold giant stuffed animals.
