I told my wife that I was either going to teach my daughter Spanish, music, or both. So I've been looking for something easy to pick up that doesn't make ears bleed *cough* recorder *cough* and I'm considering picking up the 12-hole Noble by Night one. Great video! I especially like the effect you get when the harmony comes in. It has a very clear sound and works really well in a song that I wouldn't have expected ocarina to sound good covering!

OMG I always wondered how you slowly changed the pitch on the ocarina. I tried to copy you by trying to change my breath pressure but it didn't work, so I figured it must be some technique with your tongue or something but then as I watched this video, you had a close up on the ocarina and after I replayed that part like five times, I finally realized that you slowly slide your finger off the hole!!! Man I wish I knew all the techniques that come with learning the ocarina, but regardless I now have new one to practice. Thanks David Ps I know it might seem obvious but I guess it never crossed my mind to do that, because everyone always says to make sure that your finger holes are completely covered but regardless it was fun to learn 😊

Better late than never! The actual name of the technique is called “glissando”, which is the Italian word for “sliding” since you’re literally sliding your fingers off the tone holes, raising the pitch. Another technique I like to do is I’ll slightly lower my breath at the end of a phrase, which trails off the note. Maybe I’ll make a KZbin short about this to demonstrate both 😅
