I’m honoring my sister today by sharing her tips and tricks with you on how to make these puffy fry jacks. I will never forget you and forever miss you babe.

Cooking with Shirani Hi I was looking for belizean fry jack recipe and chose to look at this video, coincidentally I have a recent loss similar to yours, 6 weeks ago my dear sister passed away unexpectedly in her sleep too, she would have been 53 next week, we were so close, it’s so hard to accept, it’s so painful and many times a sadness comes over me every time I realize I don’t have her around any more. Looks like, after hearing you tell of your loss and crying, one never completely gets over loss of loved ones, even years later. But it’s nice to see you’ve turned it into something positive with your KZbin channel. I wish you the best. God bless you.

Hi Elle, I'm so so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved sister. Losing a love one and especially someone you are close with is never easy. I sometimes feel like I'm gonna forever have a broken heart. I have my good days but like you there are times when I get really really sad. Even though I don't know you, just know that I'm thinking of you and praying for you. Take care of yourself ❤.

I love fry jacks. We live in Corozal town but sometimes I don’t feel like making them so I go to Al’s. Cafe. They run out early so you have to order them early. My maya friend makes them too.

Fry Jacks are the best! That's good you have a place close by that you can go buy them. I wish I had that 😊

Those look so good but how do you eat them? What do you eat them with?

Syrup for breakfast. Or like a side on the dinner (bread)

I like to eat them with beans or stew chicken but my husband loves them with honey.

Thanks for sharing that story with us ❤️I can totally understand especially when you're cooking you kind of picture yourself with that person and you go back in time and have all these flashbacks. 😭 also want to thank you for making this video because it was always a hit-or-miss when it came to fry jacks with me and I always wanted mine's really puffy. after you need the flower how long do you let it sit out before you start frying? The reason why I was asking is because growing up I always see my grandmaafter needing the flower she would lay the balls out in a row and put a kitchen rag over it I don't remember how long should we wait but I think it may contribute to the puffiness if I'm not mistaken? and when it comes to making Belizean tortillas and Belizean fry jacks I always would get confused as to which one doesn't supposed to have baking powder.
@CookingwithShirani4 жыл бұрын
You are welcome dear and thank you as well! Let the dough rest atleast 15-20 minutes before you fry it. I don't know if that contributes to the puffiness but it makes it easier to spread and holds its shape better. As far as the baking powder goes my family always put baking powder in both and we use the exact same recipe. If you have any more questions let me know. Take care and God bless 🙏❤.

There's no shame in showing your love, your loss, or the missing part of your soul. I cry every time I think of my grandparents or my dad, it's not always out of sadness it's just love.
@CookingwithShirani5 жыл бұрын
That is so true, that when I cry it's not always out of sadness, it's just love. I feel it's the hardest thing in life. I read somewhere that, grief is love with no place to go and I truly believe that. My heart goes out to you. Take care ❤.

Thank you for this video. I tried fried jack from my best friends grandma and I’ve loved it ever since. So so sorry for your loss. Made me cry. 😢 If you have a Bible may John 5:28 & 1 Corinthians 15:26 provide you lasting comfort. These are promises from Jehovah God.

@@CookingwithShirani i tried the recipe but sadly mine did not puff up...what could be wrong?
@CookingwithShirani3 жыл бұрын
@@trenthzb Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. Did you happen to do all of these? Tips and tricks: 1. Make sure you have enough oil in your pan (1 inch or more) 2. Make sure your oil is hot (medium-high heat) 3. Don’t spread the dough too thin 4. Don’t cut a slit in the halves if you want a puffy fry jack
@trenthzb3 жыл бұрын
@@CookingwithShirani I tried it again and this time it puffed up perfectly! Thanks !
