Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Express Dock Review

Great review! You are one of the few reviewers that correctly notes that audio out of all of these Thunderbolt docks are lacking. Perhaps in the future there will be a Thunderbolt dock that relays high-end audio.

Unrelated comment:. I was looking up videos on 2-factor authentication and who should pop up but Lon Seidman doing a video on same! This was CTTechJunkie dated 11-25-2012! Naturally I watched this video first, since you are the man. I did discover that it was a bit outdated though, after finding a couple other more recent videos by persons unknown to me. Just got a kick out of seeing you a few years back, doing a different thing. I would have still been a subscriber too!

Not all the ports on the MacBook pro are full 4 lane PCIe, the top two on either side are, maybe you should have tried them?

Hey dear Lon, I've bought this Dock unaware of it‘s support (and if it would work) for windows an I want to use it together with an acer switch 3. You mentioned, that you got most of the ports running - may you help me, or tell me how? In windows, it just says unknown usb device and „error code 43“ in the device manager. I‘m pretty desperate right now, I hope youor someone could help me. Thanks so much! 🙂

Yes it should work with one of those but of course will operate at Thunderbolt 2 speeds.

Did you give the Asus Zenscreen MB16AC a try with the dock?

I haven't but I should try that. To be honest the Zenscreen doesn't really make sense with a dock like this given that if you're on the desktop you're much better off with a powered regular display vs. the relatively dim Zenscreen. The tradeoff for the lack of brightness is of course the portability.

berna400 looks like it's an 3rd party script based on Lon's terminal command. ./iperf3 _ ipaddress

Do not buy this piece of junk. Bought this brand new, along with a brand new Dell U2718q 4k monitor and a brand new 2017 15" MacBook Pro. Everything should work since everything is new, right? NOPE. When the computer is put to sleep or screen locked and then attempted to wake out of sleep, the monitor nor the screen on the MBP would come on. WTF. I contacted Belkin Cares on Twitter and their responses is: "In some minor cases, there may be compatibility issues. Some of these can be resolved with higher quality cables and/or adjusting the settings in the monitor or on the host. This may require trial and error. Please try using different cables. Let us know if still persist." Basically, it's their product's fault but something must be wrong with the monitor or the Displayport cable. I checked to see if it is indeed the monitor by using Apple's USB-C multimedia adapter + HDMI cable to the same Dell monitor. It wakes from sleep just fine. Rather than mess around and try to troubleshoot, I returned this piece of junk and got an Elgato Thunderbolt 3 docking station instead. Guess what? No issues from waking from sleep, using the same DP cable, Dell monitor and MacBook Pro. And it's $50 less. Apple should really rethink what they carry within their store. Do they even bother checking out if the third party products they carry even work? Lame. Do not buy this piece of junk. Get the Caldigit or Elgato equivalents instead.

John Choi mine works like a charm... same mbp15tb 35inch ultrawide, wired mouse and keyboard, and external ssd.
