I placed this comment on another You Tube video and so I will share it here as well. I had Bells Palsy back around 1986. I was about 26 or 27 years old then. I was being looked after by an ears/nose/throats specialist who saw me when I went initially to an emergency room in my local hospital. He set me up within a week or so with a facial exercise regimen as well as electro stimulation on the side of my face that was affected by the palsy. I went about every two days that I can remember for the electo therapy. Within about 3-4 weeks my face was about 90 - 95% back to normal. Now its 2024 and I have Bells Palsy again. This time it is not quite as severe. But the issue this time is somewhat the same as before. My left eye is not blinking much and so my eye is getting dried out and I have to take special care of it. I am also off work on short term disability. It has been about two weeks since the onset of the paralysis. I have seen several physio therapists this time and a couple of MD's about my palsy this time around. The are all telling me "no, don't use the electro therapy. It does not work!" I have told all of them. I had it done before and I feel it definitely helped. I had one physio therapist tell me I could use a "tens unit" and try it. But then her "mentor" told her to tell me to "not use the tens on my face". So I am frustrated really. The other physio therapist has been doing acupuncture every other day since about 5 days after I started getting the facial paralysis. I am okay if they do that. But so far, and I know it has only been two weeks roughly. There has been little to no improvement. I don't know what the big issue is with refusing to do electro therapy. If its not going to hurt anything. Its worth a try. I can't stay on disability forever. I have to get back to work. Oh, and by the way. Right after I started getting the paralysis I had a CT Scan done and had blood work done. So the possibility of a stroke this time around was definitely ruled out. I am getting frustrated with the accepted treatment approach to Bells Palsy in 2024. My thinking is, "if it doesn't hurt and it might help" why not try it. I don't know what the big issue is. I think a lot of the younger medical professionals now only look at the "studies" that have been done on electro therapy for Bells Palsy. Those studies are few and far between and poorly done and so do not offer any conclusive evidence for the effectiveness of electro therapy on Bells Palsy. But you know why the "studies" have not been done better? Because the medical profession sees no money to be made. If the pharmaceutical companies had control of all the tens machines in the world. There would be plenty of studies showing electro therapy works wonders. Anyway, just my rant on this issue. Good video. Thanks for posting it.

If you guys haven’t read some other comments, people are saying what I am about to say, there is a Steroid that will HELP you recover, its called prednisone. However dosage depends on age and weight I think. A female age 23, weight 78kg was diagnosed with BP, and doctor told to take this steroid for 16 days total. Day 1-5 40mg 1x a day (with food) day 5-10 20mg 1x a day. Day 10-13 10mg 1x a day. Day 13-16 5mg 1x a day. You CAN NOT SKIP or STOP taking it, it is a STEROID… if you just wake it once or couple of times and stop, you will gain weight but if you follow the right schedule you will be FINE! This advice is to help you, im not a DR but this is what helped and I know it worked! You may worry in the beginning abt steroid bad side effects but thank God it didnt give any side effects that we know of. Best of lucks and treat it AS FAST fas you can. We had waited 5-7days before we stared the procedure and it worked out fine. Hope this helps.

My husband woke up one the day before Christmas with Bell's Palsy. It scared him enough to actually go to the emergency room to find out what happened. Up until this morning before Christmas he refused to see or talk with a doctor about the Flu he had and how crappy he was feeling. Come to find out not only did he the Flu and Bell's Palsy, his blood sugar was well over 400. Up until then he would brag about not seeing a doctor in 30 years. He was very lucky that the Bell's Palsy appeared to sent him to a doctor. He could have went into a diabetic coma. At the time we lived at least 50 miles from the nearest hospital.

I got a job this year and my life is back to normal, so go out enjoy yourself and continue living the life you want.

Have bells palsy now. The day of my dentist appointment for a simple filling I felt the pain behind my ears in my lymph nodes. Just thought it was due to the dentist work . My symptoms were so light compared to others I've seen with bells palsy. My face didn't melt. I still have some movement. The worst part is my eye barely blinks. So I'm I'm hoping I'll be recovered very soon. Never happened in my life. Mines on my left side.

A bit of rectification is required here. Chorda Tympani is not involved in hearing. It carries taste sensation from anterior two thirds. Nerve to stapedius is involved in Bell's palsy and leads to hyperacusis.

My friend got BP 3 years ago. She was going through a lot of pressure. She started with a light headache, later that day she started having pain in the back of her neck, behind her ear. The next morning half her face was paralyzed. It took her weeks to recover. Almost 3 months she was taking medication and Neurobion supplements. I have been having the same symptoms and I need to figure out how to avoid getting BP or a stroke. I’ve been going through so much stress and don’t know how to control it. 😢

I had bells palsy when I was 12 and was told it was due to my bodies reaction of a traumatic or stressful situation. I've always believed that when I'm too stressed then it would come back because I'd been made to believe it wasn't virus related. So odd to discover otherwise. Even more bizarre was that my treatment simply included PT to "wake up" the nerves and then an eye patch and eye drops since my right eye couldn't close at all. Thanfully within a couple of weeks it cleared but I never regained full function and still have a slight distortion by my mouth where that side was affected with paralysis.

Same I had it when I was ten although I'm suspicious it was a stroke as I couldn't move my right arm or the right side of my face. I use to mix lots of aspirin with coca cola and drink it I think that may of been a factor. I am also still slightly lop sided now. Glad you are ok x

We dont know what causes it. Cuz no one in the emergancy room had any idea what was wrong or what caused it. They told me "We dont see anything wrong, u dont have an ear infection but thats the only meds we can give to see what happens. Basically, what i heard was, we have no idea.

Truth is as soon as you get diagnosed with bells palsy you have to start corticosteroids (prednisolone) . The earlier you start the steroid the faster you will heal even if your at a dose of 10mg twice a day for atleast 3 weeks. The most benefiting drug is a steroid but one week isn't enough

What about deficiencies? No one ever considers those. Electrolyte imbalances (& as serum blood tests do not show cellular levels, which can be vastly different to serum levels as the body generally keeps blood level homeostasis, what is really going on with the electrolytes may be missed completely - only when cellular levels are critical mat serum levels start to drop), Vitamins B1 &/or B12 deficiencies, Vitamin D deficiency (which often occurs in the Winter & can drive hypocalcemia), etc, may all be potential factors. Plus, the ‘stress management’ nutrients like the B vitamins & Magnesium can get hammered during periods of stress, trauma, illness (inc Virus), etc. B1 deficiency is rarely tested, & again, because serum tests do not show cellular levels, B12 tests can often be exceedingly misleading. They also do not determine how much of the serum B12 is active or inactive. If most is inactive, it’s not getting into the cells & although the serum level may seem fine on paper, it may actually be meaningless in practice.

@VenturiLife

@@aklaasvandalen207 First up. Not a doctor: No, or unlikely. What can happen in some fairly common cases (not involving a direct injury), is some kind of viral infection like a bad cold / flu and/or an inner ear infection or similar; the nerve involved (the 7th cranial nerve) can then suffer inflammation, swells, and gets pinched and bruised (as it passes through tight passageways in the skull etc). You must try and address it within 48 hours. They will typically administer antivirals / retrovirals (which probably don't do that much), but will give you corticosteroids which reducing the swelling and help the nerve start the healing process, you'll end up taking corticosteroids for about 6 weeks and slowly taper off them. If it's not addressed with treatment in the 48 hours, they say there are cases where Bell's Palsy can end up as a permanent thing with half your face, tongue etc. basically paralysed, which is a horrible outcome. Woke up with it once, and had to seek treatment, started coming good in a day or two after treatment, but you have to stick with the corticosteroids unfortunately for weeks. They will probably also recommend touching, stroking the affected side of the face to stimulate nerve response. I can't see how accupuncture could do anything useful here, but I don't use it as a treatment.
