I'm a Brit who has worked in Egypt firstly as a transport manager on The Spy Who Loved Me, bond film. Then I went back into construction working on the road tunnel under the Suez Canal. Later on a UK/Us aid project building a large section of Wastewater tunnels, treatment works etc. Then finally on a section of the Cairo Metro. Groups of us often spoke of the trouble Palestinians and Jews were having, but it was way above our heads what went on there after WWII. Decisions made by others including the UK where land was given to the Jews who of course had the most terrible time at the hands of Hitler. I visited Israel and got further confused seeing the fences and no mans land strip around Palestine, that I have great sympathy with their cause. I now live in Vietnam and when I next visit the UK I will make sure I visit ShakeShuka to sample those dishes that I often eat in Egypt. It was also great to hear Arabic being spoken as it has reminded me of the 7 years I spent there. Thanks for posting and take care. Inshala

FANTASTIC, I' ve never had Palestian food before but once again you've opened my eyes to a new place. The food looks great, the prices are absolutely out of this world considering it's in London and in Baker Street of all places. I can leave with a fat wallet after eating all that my belly desires. I will in no doubt be going there next weekend God willing. Had to laugh though, because the owner was feeding you like there's no tomorrow, he's so friendly and proud of his culture and food. Thank you so much Latif because its not somewhere I wouldn't have even thought about to be honest. I don't need the recipes, I just want this owner to pamper me like he pampered you on your visit. I felt teared up when he mentioned the homeless, it's pure love and hope that his restaurant exceeds any expectation he's ever had due to his love.

When it comes to spices , Latif Bhai I am opening up to the idea that more spices is not necessarily better. As I am growing older I am enjoying dishes which have few but high quality ingredients. Afghani , Arabic Mediterranean dishes are amazing.
