I went through a traumatic event 7 years ago and completely stopped singing. For 7 years i was numb to it. I watched Belle, and her voice is similar to mine. I could not stop crying for two reasons. One, the plot of the movie was almost exactly my life too and what has happened to me and my singing. Two, her voice just woke something up in me. I listened to the songs from the movie over and over, Feeling something grow. One day I was doing the dishes and I didn't realize I was singing A Million Miles Away at the same time. My mom was suddenly by my side in tears. Confused i looked at her as she said, "i cant believe I forgot what your voice sounded like. It is so beautiful. I missed that voice so much." And we cried together for a moment. I try to make a goal to sing a song once a day and go from there. I used to sing and perform with guitar many tlimes. I hope to make it back to that level. Thank you Belle:)

Three years ago in November my husband took his own life. I went into the theaters to see Belle knowing very little about the movie except a tug I needed to see it. Never has a movie spoken to my soul and music expressed the depth of my grief and hope. Your voice is perfect and reflects the emotion portrayed in the lyrics. Thank you my dear. I can’t listen to this song without crying but it also heals. A Million Miles Away and Gales of Song are my favorite songs of all time ❤

It took me way too long, but I finally realized that this song was never about Kei. The only one about him was Lend Me Your Voice. This is absolutely, completely about her mom. And when I listened to it, it totally shattered my heart. Even the last part became bittersweet in a sense, with her basically saying that she loves her and will no longer hide the gift of song that her mom gave her, even though she’s gone. And now I want to watch the movie again…oh how you drag me in!

When this movie came out, I had lost my wife to cancer a few months before. So when this "Ghibli-like" movie came out that bore a strong resemblance to Beauty & the Beast, I took my twenty-something, just-now-fully-adult daughters to see it as a fun, Christmas outing. I think all three of us were balling our eyes out while Belle sang this song. Very cathartic for all of us. I still tear up when I hear it.

[Verse 1] Light glimmers in a flower Like jewels in a dream The sky breathes life, love to everything At times I've thought "I'm not enough" The chains that tied my heart But there's still a path that lies ahead for you and I [Pre-Chorus] Memories fade away Clouds of yesterday With no one to love Is this life worth living? [Chorus] Come back to me, and stay by my side I feel my heart shake Come, ease this ache I'm standing over here, reaching for you A million miles away, come back and stay [Post-Chorus] No matter how far the memories may be When I close my eyes, you're all that I see Come back to me A million miles away, come back and stay [Interlude] La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la La-la-la-la La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la [Verse 2] Sing, let your heart soar! Sing forever! Sad and so happy! Feelings flow over, now Our world is full of all kinds of colors Closing my eyes I still can see the stars Shine in the sky, sing in their harmony Flowers, they're blooming, oh it's beautiful! When I hear this song, it takes me back to when I was a kid and my mom was deployed overseas. I was too young to understand why she had to go but each day was a struggle cause I didn't know if she would make it back home. But the memories we made, the laughter, the tears, everything I could remember with her made the deployment easier. I knew that no matter what, she'd find a way back home, no matter what would happen, she would find her way back home to her family.

I loved this movie for the aesthetics and songwriting. I cant believe ive seen so many critical thoughts about this anime. Those people i cannot agree with. The plot was so heart wrenching. Yes, I think there were some lacking parts in the movie, one for me was her childhood friend/crush who literally had the personality of a piece of bread. But I think the rest redeemed the weaker points such as the magical singing and the shocking plot like you said.

Sooooo good! I love the rawness of a live performance, but also I feel as if this is Kylie's real voice coming out, as opposed to the (equally as amazing) film version where she's singing in character as Suzu/Belle. What really blows me away is that she's not just singing to a backing track or a supporting musician, but that she actually took the time and effort to learn the arrangement of the song and transcribe it to an incredible piano performance (that is understandably overshadowed by her godlike singing).
