This cottage has a special place in my heart as it was one of the first big jobs I had on Mackinac Island. Join me as I take you all around this gorgeous property and share some insight on the design process. Cheers!

Jack keeps on creating all these pockets of garden heavens! I also appreciate the filming with the drone views so one can really understand the scale of the land. Thanks for the tip on the copper wrap around the fence posts ! 🍁🇨🇦

You're leaving a beautiful legacy on that island. Just now hit me after watching since you started your channel, the air there must be so healthy to breathe in, no pollution from car exhaust.

Your stone work is as impressive as your garden and landscape design. How wonderful to use every stone on the property. The native stone along with the natural planting style brings the perfect authenticity to this property. I always enjoy seeing your tours, thank you.

I was sad we didn't get the wink and grin at the beginning but Jack more then made up for it in the end. I love these tours with him, especially the ones where he worked on them a few years ago. Seeing the vision mature must be so satisfying.

Jack I live in the inner city in Northern Indiana on a double city lot, I’m also a 24 hour caretaker for my handicapped husband with MS. If a miracle ever happened to have this property designed for a power wheel chair for him to enjoy nature I’d be ecstatic!! Those wonderful seating areas and stone were so inspiring!! Love your design and videos.

I too love Copper Beech. My friend introduced me to her 25 year old specimen and then locally they have several in the old cow pasture at Longwood Gardens. Awesome tree! I appreciate your long term vision. We have much native stone in my area as well and that s how I feel when we hit a “gold mine” of rocks. I use them all over our property. My gardening friends are “jelly” of this on site treasure. There are lots of DuPont estate gardens in my area for the public to visit and years later you see their vision that went into the plantings.

❤️ the seasonal garden tours you give on Mackinac Island - thank you!! Also, I don’t know any other way to describe it but it’s just magic on how you use the materials (limestone, Moss, etc) found on these properties and they just blossom and shine as the new and old grow and age together. This is best type of landscaping!

Thanks so much Jack for this more personal tour of your thought processes and memories associated with your landscape creations and the wonderful historical properties there. Where some would see useless objects, you see delightful nuance and sublime beauty to be created and cherished. You are a sensitive, thoughtful and resourceful artist. Mackinac Island is fortunate to have you and your crew around.

I think this is one of my favorite cottages and gardens. The stone work you created is amazing. I can’t believe anyone would want to take all of that off site. I have some coneflowers that germinated this year and they are just now blooming. Quite odd but I’ll take it.

I think I've seen this home before, maybe when Laura and Aaron from Garden Answer met up with you. I remember showing the video to my friend who has a beautiful home on a much smaller lake than yours just west of Minneapolis. She and her husband renovated their upper landscape (front yard) with this design as their inspiration. They put a flagstone pathway down the center surrounded by peonies, perennials and grasses and looped it around with more plants inside. It's timed so something is always in bloom. I wish you could see the photos.

Jack, what happens to the horses that live in those barns throughout the winter? Does someone feed them and care for them? Are they taken off the island?

Almost all of them leave the island for the winter homes where they have more room to roam and get shaggy :)
