Majestic Cottage 🏡 & New Water Feature! 💦

Who doesn't love a waterfall, especially on Mackinac Island?! In this video, I take you through a tour of the Majestic Cottage waterfall we just built and give a little insight on how I designed it. Your designs harmonize with Mother Nature's designs so beautifully. I would love to get inside your creative mind as you plan a project. Over this winter, I'll be "designing" a natural hideaway in my suburban back yard that hints at my favorite Lake Superior spot in northern Minnesota. I'm researching dwarf conifers and loose shrubs to mimic the woods up north. That small flagstone patio is going into the center of my plan along with a smokeless fire pit. I found a dwarf chamaecyparis (dwarf hinoki cypress) that is quirky enough to be my anchor and build off that, add some boulders (how DO you manage them into place?), some grasses, blueberries, hydrangeas (because those look natural in the woods, right? 😆), maybe a natural folly to screen the very nearby neighbors. Thankful for Winters to allow me planning time.

Loved this video! I've been going to the island my whole life and the "natural Mackinac" is what has always drawn me there. I bought my first "Michigan Wildflowers" book there in my early twenties (Yellow Trout Lily is the first flower recorded in the log!) I think people would love to see what these beautiful properties look like in the dead of winter....snow piled high and blowing into drifts....the beautiful plants "sleeping' under the deep snow....it can be surprising to see the differences between Michigan summer and Michigan winter!
