This really is the best way to do it. You get the clarity of the 5150 and the cozy compression and rattle of the recto at the same time. Plus you can run stereo effects in actual stereo.

Man, things just sound so much better in stereo. I can't go back to a single amp when playing alone. Hope you keep up this series and see what other cool pairings you find. It's really helpful for us who don't have access to a basement of gear to be able to figure out what amps we like and which amps pair well together.

I've been running a similar stereo rig for a couple weeks now with my Invective 120 and multi-watt Triple Rectifier, with the Invective on an Invective 4x12 and the Rectifier on an oversized rectifier straight cab. Sounds massive. With the way I have them dialed, the Invective is providing most of the low end with Misha's settings, and most of the mids and highs are coming from the rectifier.

I can attest...these two rigs sound ridiculously good together. The pine invective cab gets mean in the lows. My favorite pairing I've yet to hear together.

The ultimate recording rig. Personally I would only use a noise gate but just think with all the new high gain amps out now, these two amps have not been beat.

Hard to go wrong with this combination of amps in a live setting. The metalcore band I played with for years, ran this combination. My mk1 5150, his 2ch Dual Rec Rev. C. At least I think it was a Rev C, black plate, chrome chassis, small mesa logo. That thing sounded killer, but the combination of the two just gave us a massive wall of sound that everyone always complimented at our local venues. The thing I remember most about his rectifier was that thing really needed to be fucking LOUD to sound it's best... much more so than newer 3 channel rectifiers I've played. My 5150's post gain needed to be set to at least 4 to keep up with him. We were both using Mesa traditional 4x12s. So yeah... LOUD! Ear plugs were mandatory lol.

It took me 6-7 years to find a local mf280 cab (and even still had to drive four hours across three states), nice to see someone else has one too. It feels so much more open but a little less tight than the mesa, not sure if it's the construction or the speaker differences (the Mf280 has a T5321 in it).

The two presence knobs are also of different values. That alone makes for some cool interplay. I especially like the dual-presence "trick" with my Tremoverb. It allows for a faster more cutting vintage mode that sits between vintage and modern mode. Orange's presence in the afternoon range will have you setting the red's presence more like you would in modern, but probably not quite as low.

I have the unpopular opinion that Selected Marshall models do a great job production h a solid tone. I have lots of other amps that seem like they have more bite or more lows but you end up cutting so many away later on. The Marshall 2203/4 or 2210/05 have great gain structure and hit where it counts imho. Plenty moldable low end and mids where it hits. Get a good cab and you’re gold. Granted I like a lot of other amps. I play a few Kranks, a Carvin, a Mesa single recto and noodle in the Axe FX and positive grid practice amp. I’ve found cabs ultimately matter more to tone than the heads do.

Another sick video bro! Belligerence indeed lol. Maybe a question or topic you could address in one of your FAQ'n Friday sessions, but, what are the "maintenance" and/or upkeep things you do with the amps you end keeping, or have had for a long time? Ex/ when do you swap pre-amp and power-amp tubes, if at all? Do you change filter caps, resistors, or any components after a while? Anything along those lines. Keep 'em coming man!
I love that you are a diamond in the riff!! How long have your been playing guitar. Yea I normally play in drop d half step. Miss the sound of a classic st guitar.

Trying to put together a rig for my band. We’re heavily influenced by Zao, Coalesce, Turmoil, and Buried Alive. Already have a 6505 and I was wondering if you’d pair it with a Dual or a Triple Rectifier? Also which amp would you suggest for rhythm and which for the lead? Anyone reading this please feel free to respond. It would be much appreciated!
@Slidezy2 жыл бұрын
Typically the dual rec is the rythem amp and the 6505 would be the lead. That said if you quad track them... you can do 2 of each amp on rythem and 2 of each amp on lead. Then you could make the rec's louder on rythem and 6505 louder on lead. Get a really cool tone.
@Slidezy2 жыл бұрын
You could combine the 6505 with an orange amp like the rockerverb 3 or th30, you could do a mesa stiletto stage 2 or even a laney ironheart as your rythem.
