Bells of St Andrew, Holborn

A brief extract of successful quarter peal of Plain Bob Triples. The previous clip is from the prior attempt of Cambridge Major which sadly came to grief not too long after starting.
Lovely bells, relatively easy going though with a nack, a little mushy but they sound great. Cast when Mears were at their finest and in arguably the best key for a mid weight 8!

I love that sound -- reminds me when I lived at St. Andrew's in the Verger's Lodge many years ago. I had a key to the tower so I got to ring the bells once or twice just to see -- the tenor bell pulled me off my feet (I only did that but once, or twice). ;)

A really lovely 8, my old dad was a bell hanger at Whitechapel then and he also drove the Commer truck they had so no doubt at some stage he would have be involved, although the bells would have been delivered on a decent size lorry.

Quite a good eight, handling could be improved by installing flap boards in the middle chamber. A tower that lost its identity along with its previous bells, at the same time as many other London towers in WW2. I would have loved to have rung on the previous eight bells, tenor 28cwt! I rang the tenor here, and the tenor at Waterloo Road (before the rehanging) to peals on the same day back in the late 1980's.

Now the question is which do you prefer? Sevenoaks or here?

I'm biased on that one - found St Andrew's a little mushier than Sevenoaks, but sound amazing. Sevenoaks are a tad easier and clearer.
