Review of the bells of steel 5.0 light commercial power rack with lat pulldown attachment I purchased. Overall a great power rack for home use and the price is great for all the included features.

Nice review. I bought this in January with the same numbering defect. I like how you compensated for it and may do something similar. I had to mention the defect to them before they issued me a partial refund however but in the end it was no real trouble. I do like the squat rack quite a bit and feel its excellent value. The safety straps that come with it are versatile and a big plus and the rack itself feels very solid. The coating comes off fairly easy if metal hits it but I agree that its simply character of use. I also bought the pull down attachment as well as the cable cross system. For the price it's good value but they do have their quirks. The fact that you can't adjust the height for the cable cross attachment is a draw back but most workouts that I do are top or bottom so it wasn't a deal breaker. As you mentioned, the lack of a leg brace for the pull down machine is annoying but I use my barbell with weights to get around it. I do however find the pulley system for both the pull down and cable machine to be a bit stiff and added industrial lubrication to the track to help it a bit. Again for the price its good value and meets my needs as a competitive athlete, albeit on an amature level. I also have the trap bar and so far feel it is excellent for a variety of workouts although the price reflects this as well as it is not cheap by any means.

The numbers I painted on with a oil based paint pen and after did a coat of sealant over top. No fading at all or wear marks on these areas.

Best video review of this rack I’ve found so far! How are you digging it after having it for some time??

Thanks I use it 4x a week and the rack is holding up awesome. The normal wear and tear when metal hits metal so the powder coating is worn off in heavy use areas but that is expected. The lat pulldown is actually smoother now as it got worn in. I built a belt squat platform for it that works good with the lat pulldown attachment (did a vid on it). Overall for the price point I'm very happy with it.

Very nice review, straight and to the point. What size square tubing did they make this power rack. Your set up is pretty nice. 👍🏼

2.3 x 2.3″ 12 gauge/60 x 60 mm 2mm tubing this from their website, mine measures just under 2 1/2 square.

@@TheArmoryliftforlife thanks. I am wondering if the attachments from bells of steel will work on my powertec rack. Which is a hair smaller then 2.5” as well.

Thanks for the review! I'm just curious how high it is to your floor joists and if you have any trouble with chin ups? I'm thinking about a similar setup. Thanks again!
@TheArmoryliftforlife
@TheArmoryliftforlife 5 жыл бұрын
It was a close fit, my floor joists are 83.5 inches high so I had 1/2 to spare. The pullup bar is centered between two joist so my head can go above the rack and between joists. No issues with chin ups just have to be careful.

@@TheArmoryliftforlife Glad that it worked out for you! I have a bit more height so I shouldn't have any issues. Thanks again.

Nice review. I have a 5.1 LC PR from BoS. What’s different from yours which is 5.0 ? Also, How do you store your 7 ft bar ? I have a 7.5 ft ceiling so keep it on the rack. I don’t want to drill holes in the dry wall / studs.

Not much difference between my older model 5.0, the newer one has a different chin bar and the hole spacing might be better. I have plywood on my walls so I have a rack bolted to the wall for BB storage.

Do you think you can do things like rack pulls and power shrugs off those straps ?
@TheArmoryliftforlife
@TheArmoryliftforlife 4 жыл бұрын
The straps are super heavy duty and I have done rack pulls with them no issue. Straps absorb the impact of the bar better and make less noise then the spotter arm attachments. I also have these which are great and have loaded 700 lbs on them with no issues but they only go down so far for attachment so depending on how tall you are the lowest you might be able to adjust is around knee height. With the straps you can go much lower.

Do you know what is the difference between this rack and the 5.1 version?
@TheArmoryliftforlife
@TheArmoryliftforlife 2 жыл бұрын
Nothing too major, they have a different style pull up bar, the curved piece of metal at the back rests on the floor with the newer model and the band pegs look to be a better design. Also the racks have the laser cut hole numbers which was a factory defect on the one I got.

Do you think that this would be worth getting over the new Bells of steel hydra series rack? Would you say the attachment selection is plenty for most people for the light commercial due to the proprietary hole size?
@TheArmoryliftforlife
@TheArmoryliftforlife Жыл бұрын
The hydra series is extra $$$ and the light commercial rack has plenty of different attachments. I would only go with the hydra series if I wanted to get another brand name attachment or needed the extra beefy rack for a home gym setup.

What's the height, 84.5" or 72"? How stable is the rack when re-racking a bar during squats, without it being bolted to the floor?
@TheArmoryliftforlife
@TheArmoryliftforlife 4 жыл бұрын
rack height is 84.5 and it is bolted to the floor
@mahmoodalam3625

I have a 5.1 LC PR. It sits flat on the floor and is not bolted, is very stable. Having a pair of 45s and or 35s stored on the plate pegs are an added stability factor.

Is that the b.o.s. Trap bar 2.0? How do you like it?
@TheArmoryliftforlife
@TheArmoryliftforlife 5 жыл бұрын
I'm currently training for a powerlifting contest and the trap bar has not been my priority so I have not used it yet! I can say it's huge, well made, moderate knurling and it can be loaded with lots of plates. I'll do a review of it once I use it in March.
