Great job! Remember the clutch pedal only needs to be pushed all the way down to squeeze the clutch brake to put the transmission in gear. The rest of the time you only use the top half of the pedal stroke.

Yes! I keep trying to remember that. Each time I drive the truck I get a little better. I filled one more time after this vidoe and I get to do it tomorrow again! Yay

I see your double clutching when you shift. It won't be long and and you'll be shifting without the clutch. Don't be too hard on yourself. Every truck is different. I'll be by the store soon to get some of those potatoes. Keep up the great work!
@BigMACK18682 күн бұрын
I agree that you're going to find that speed shifting is so much easier. Run every gear to the max, then shift. And you will find shifting to the next gear is like a hot knife cutting into butter, it just slides into the next gear.

Hi Molly, the first day in a new truck can be weird it won’t take long, the door doesn’t seem to shut right if it takes a couple times try lowering your window down then shut the door there is a vacuum in the truck it needs an air escape good luck you will sort it 👍

G'day Molly. Way to go kiddo :) If you put your foot on the throttle and the truck struggles to respond, drop her down a gear. Third week of spring down here in Australia. We had an early start, lots of blossom and warm days and then got hit hard with three bad frosts last week- lot of damage. Only the old missus and me here now. I've planted our spuds but nothing else yet- ground's still cold. One of our little hens brought out ten from sixteen eggs yesterday- so we win :) Love your enthusiasm- it's always handy on a farm! Jay.
@rusttrail32 күн бұрын
Great video Molly, when you are getting loaded try first gear, the video looked like you were going slow enough that the truck at idle may keep up with the tractor. Then as he speeds up you may need more throttle, but as for exiting the field loaded first or second gear would be enough, I would think. The truck being loaded will make it compress the ground a bit which will make the truck have to work a little harder to get out of it., plus you probably don't want to make a ton of dust. Go with what you feel comfortable with and you will get it in time.
@BellsFarming2 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! You’re right about being able to idle along the tractor and harvester. It turns out this truck is easier to load than the blue automatic I was using the last two years. The disced ground I was pulling out onto made it a bit difficult, I was losing ground speed so fast. Thank you so much for the tips!! I really appreciate it! I have loaded this truck one more time since this video. :)

Molly put truck in second gear and then never touch the clutch. It’s all about the rpm’s of the truck and can shift. It’s hard at first because you are used to double clutch or side shift. But it’s less wear and tear on the clutch and the throw out bearing. I’m not judging or telling you but I’m looking out at the cost at the end. I love watching you potato harvest vids thank you.

😁My favorite truck collor RED .🥰What gear depends on the grade of the road . Steep gear one. flat Gear two . Once yo get rollin shifting is easy . dolbble cluch low range break clutch hi range . watch RPM and listen to the motor to shift. 1200 to 1500 rpm with a 300 rpm drop .practice long enough and you will get so good that the clutch becomes only a way to start and stop. doing great 👍Thanks

Quack, quack, quack. Nice looking tators! As we say down in Oklahoma. Being a retired mechanic, I got to drive all kinds of vehicles. They all took some getting used to. At 68 I have learned a lot of things, and still learning. I used to tell co-workers and friends that the key to success is not being afraid of failure. I used to have pic of a horse that was tied to a plastic lawn chair. The horse would stand there all day, because it did not know the chair could not hold it back. We have to expand our horizons. Think outside the box as they say. Great job, keep up the good videos.

This weekend RD Offutt had a potato day at his farm south of me. All you can pick. I went to the event for the first time to see his operation. The potato were a little smaller then I expected but the amount of equipment was surprising. I counted 15 tri axial trucks of every kind and lots of John Deere tractors. Molly being nervous your first truck of the season. i watched a guy trying to load cornhere in south dakota he either went to fast or to slow so there was corn all over the ground. So i asked farmer could i have some of the spilt corn? he said go ahead there is a lot of dirt mixed in with it though.. i said i know.,... i am just gonna feed wildlife with it. so he said knock yourself out. so i went home got my trailer 5 X 8 trailer and four 110 gallon water tanks.. didn't know how space i would need. and then i grabbed a 2 x 2 piece of 1/8 inch metal mesh, some 2 x 2's made a square frame . screwed it together and then stapled wire mesh to wood and then as i was in field where he spilt icorn,....i shoveled dirt corn mix onto screen picked it up shook all the dirt out and poured corn into water tanks. i got two and a half tanks full of cleaned corn done by about 8 that evening. Farmer came out and said your wildlife must mean the world to you.. i said yes sir they do.. without them we as a species wouldn't be here. He looked at me and said your a hard worker you must have been brought up right yes sir i believe i had been. when your done with field i have other fields if you would like to pick through them too. i said thank you.. I never run out of corn all winter for my deer elk a moose and wild fowl.especially since you know what corn costs in bag in stores... all it took was a little hard work and i had plenty. and nothing against hard work..in any field.. so in your new truck Dear.... just Do your best.. i know Shane is so proud of you and his mother Camille. thanks for sharing.

As always, a great video for those of us who have never followed farming. As I watched today, I was struck by the history of farming, when women were excluded from all that you are doing. One of the great things YOU provide young women, is another area of life that they, too, can now explore. I know women have always been vital to farm family life, but today we see, in your videos, another fulfillment of gender equality and opportunity. Good job!
