It's not BS, it's a tactic of a good defense lawyer. If you don't object to rulings or motions, you can't use them in an appeal. His attorney knew it would be allowed, she objected so that when it goes to appeal she can argue that the jury was prejudiced. It probably won't work for the appeals court either, but she wouldn't be a good lawyer if she didn't try.
