In Brice Rhodes' trial on Wednesday, co-defendant and confessed killer Anjuan Carter took the stand and detailed what he remembers from the night of the brutal murders of 14-year-old Larry Ordway and 16-year-old Maurice Gordon. Carter claimed that when the group had a discussion of whether to kill the two boys, he said he didn’t want to kill them. Carter and two other co-defendants have all pleaded guilty to the killings and are testifying against Rhodes.

Folks, this is the very reason why I volunteered for Big Brothers, to help kids just like this one from becoming THIS. The boy I mentored couldn't look people in their eyes, he couldn't speak clearly. So I had him stand up tall and read from a book and project his voice to practice public speaking with me as the audience. He actually cried because it was so difficult for him, but I knew what I was doing was the right thing somehow. Because I never wanted that boy to end up like THIS.

This not an excuse for crime. The opportunities these kids in the u.s. have 80% of our kids in Africa don't have such opportunities, yet they don't commit these crimes. Poverty, lack of parenting is not an excuse. People came from orphanage homes and became successful, people was raise by single parent and still became some body good in society. It is just the issue of knowing where u from and where you want to go.

If only he had left the first time he encountered Bryce shoot those random people…but then again I feel like at that point he wouldn’t have an option but to stay around since he witnessed everything. He would’ve probably been considered a liability if he had left and they would’ve killed him too. He was basically stuck and had to go with whatever Bryce put him through. He was young asf too which plays a big role. I don’t care what anyone says we would’ve done it too. He chose his fate. This is incredibly sad.

I'm about 7, almost 8 years, older than lil bro. And started counseling kids like him when I was 21. Trying to help them make mistakes my brothers, "friends ", and I made. Suffering losses we did. And in the, almost 9, years I've been a counselor I've seen the same demeanor this young man. He isn't acting tough. This is anxiety, he is uncomfortable. He may even be struggling with reliving what happened like a lot of kids I've talked to. Its like arrested development. You're looking at a 22 year old that looks like a 22 year old, but mentally is the 15 year old that was the first to talk and tell the cops what happened. The truth about everything and everyones involvement. Its hard to see this kid now, 7 years later. He reminds me of a few lil bros that get caught up with the wrong person or crowd and got wrapped into something that he couldn't get out of. Smh

And if he was a teen caught up in this situation with nowhere to go while others are agreeing to kill these boys, what is expected of him to do? It is incredibly disturbing how the 26-year-old Brice misguided these teens, and the majority went right along with it. Talk about no guidance or direction from a more positive influence of adults. Is this guy, Anjuan getting help for what he had to experience? For those of you saying he's cold & heartless. He has the man that made him do this staring him down first of all, second you obviously can't tell trauma response when you hear or see it. He was 15, 15 years old! & had a grown man telling him to do this stuff. He had to watch that happen to his friends, you don't think he wasn't scared to death it would happen to him too?! Like come on... it's clear that none of you understand what it's like to grow up around that type of lifestyle.
